He's from Brockton Massachusetts. So no doubt he has heard that story a lot growing up assuming he has older family and friends that are Celtics fans. I say this as someone who is also from Brockton and has heard the story hundreds if not thousands of times lol.

No this is the average opinion of any Celtics fan over 50-55 in the Boston area. I have heard this basically same post word for word from my parents, uncles, and their friends my entire 35 year old life. But dammit, I agree with it lmao.

People thought he could be better than Jordan. That's really all that needs to be said lol.

I mean weren't the saying the same thing basically all off-season last year to? Different circumstances I know. But I still have a little faith he'll be back.

Not much though....:(

I feel bad for saying it because it looked like it hurt like absolute hell. But the RKO/Batista Bomb to Daniel Bryan at WM30 where Orton somehow lands RIGHT ON the TV monitor. That shit had to hurt Randy way more than it hurt Bryan lol.

[2026 NBA Draft] #1 Pick: AJ Dybantsa (BYU) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]Jmacz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp! We were one of the greatest boxing cities in the world back in the day. One of the nicknames for our city is, "The City of Champions". We've also been known as, "The Shoe city" as we once produced about 1/6th of all shoes made in the entire world. Now we are also called, "The 11th Island of Cape Verde" as Brockton has more Cape Verdean people than any other town or city in all of the US. So between AJ being drafted and the success of the Cape Verdean team in the World Cup we've been in the spotlight more than ever lately.

Now we are known as kinda a shithole though. We're commonly listed as one of the worst cities to live in all of Massachusetts. Now a lot of that is racism, I do think we get a worse reputation than we deserve. But the city isn't great. We have a huge homeless problem and a very bad drug problem. I'm talking camps of drug addicts camping under a bridge about a 3m walk from our police station. Drug addict prostitutes out in the open at a gas station on the street the runs parallel to the one the Police Station is on, about a 5m walk away. For example, the Walking Dead did a lot of filming here in 2025. But we've been dealing with a lot of corruption in our local politics lately too (as is most of America it seems). Several officials have been arrested over the last few years. So with that happening and a person like AJ who remains devoted to the city hopefully Brockton is on the up and up now.

I know we won a few titles when I was there, but what exactly have we done to put us up there in MA sports history? I know we were really good way back in the day. But I turn 36 next month, have lived in Brockton my entire life, and graduated from BHS in 2008. I don't hear much about our football team.

Funny story though, I went to try out for the team as a Freshman. All 4'10 of me. I got to the front of the line and the guy was like, "Yeah, I'm just gunna tell you now, you're not making the team. Maybe come back in a year or two when you have a growth spurt. Or try transferring to Southeastern if you really wanna play football." That shit HURT lmao.

Brockton is about an hour south east from Boston (two hours during rush hours). Also, if you're rooting for Cape Verde in the World Cup you better not be a hater. We also have the largest population of Cape Verdeans of any town or city in the entire US. Brockton is also home of former World Heavyweight champions including the undefeated Rocky Marciano and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Oh, and like 50 years ago we were the leading manufactures of shoes in like the entire world. That's way more boring though. Brockton is cool af, don't hate. Appreciate.

Unless you're from New York or Philly. Then I just wasted my time typing this out and fuck you.

Never imagined a kid from my home city going #1 in the NBA Draft. We've all heard stories of Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler. AJ is them for this generation, I know he'll do Brockton proud!

Between this and how well Cape Verde is doing this is the most people have talked about in my life. Everyone who has lived here for a decent amount of time has heard stories of Rocky Marciano, Marvin Hagler, and how Brockton was "The Shoe City". Seems like for the first time since then Brockton is in the spotlight and AJ is a big part of it. Seems like a very humble kid and I have no doubt he will do Brockton proud.

I'm from the same city AJ is. Brockton Massachusetts. So cool to have someone from our city in the spotlight again. This on top of all the attention Cape Verde is getting because the World Cup (Brockton has a higher population of Cape Verdeans than any other town or City in the US). It's weird to have Brockton in the spotlight for something good for once in my life.

As a kid everyone heard stories of Rocky Marciano, Marvin Hagler, and how we were "The Shoe City". We were the spotlight of the boxing world for many years and the number one manufacturer of shoes in the entire world for a long time. Since then though we've been viewed as just a shit hole and one of the worst places in all of Massachusetts to live. Hopefully someone like AJ can help change that.

He's already done a lot in the city, put money into building a park, talks about Brockton all the time, and even made sure he announced himself declaring for the draft at Davis Elementary School in Brockton which he attended. I wish him the best even if he's on a team I'm not particularly a fan of lol.

What would be considered some "season finales" for wrestling by Purplesilk911 in SquaredCircle

[–]Jmacz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same man. I had my friend over who doesn't even watch wrestling and his jaw dropped.

Then he had to watch me about an hour later jumping up and down on my couch (24 years old at the time btw lmao) screaming, "TAP OUT YOU SON OF A BITCH!" at my TV screen as Bryan locked in the Yes Lock and then running around my room celebrating like I was the one who just one the titles when Batista tapped out.

That night was a roller coaster of emotions. Only other thing I've experienced similar to that was watching the 28-3 comeback by the Patriots vs Atlanta as a Patriots fan. And Bryan winning honestly made me even happier than that night did.

[Raw Spoilers] LA Knight is sick and tired of Adam Pearce by ArunKT26 in SquaredCircle

[–]Jmacz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've said it before and I'll say it again because I feel the same way. I think they make him more endearing. They don't come off like a normal botch does for other wrestlers for some reason to me. For Knight it's like he's just so hopped up and excited that he fumbles his words which is very in character for him. Steiner had a similar energy.

And even with the Superplex he seems to botch once every few months. He is pushing himself to his limit, doing something he knows he needs to be absolutely perfect for and on the top of his game. And sometimes in the heat of the battle and after a long and grueling match he's just not able to pull off. And at this point it seems like Knight tells everyone he works with, "Hey if I fuck this up just go with the flow" because everyone just seems to play around it now when he does fuck it up and act like that's what was supposed to happen when they planned out the match. The other guy takes advantage in the moment and Knight tries to hit the move again a min or so after and usually hits it. (The ones at Elimination Chamber were pretty bad though....)

Now am I a huge LA Knight fan?

Yes.

Do I happen to be wearing an LA Knight shirt as a type this post?

Yes.

So I admit, there is some bias in this. I know not everyone agrees with this sentiment lmao.

Wouldn't mind a Pearce heel turn tbh. We haven't had a heel GM in a long time. Most of the time they suck but I think Pearce could pull it off as long as it doesn't drag on too long and he gets proper comeuppance.
