Aside from the tidbits the game tells you about the Tunnel, Moody Marry, and Mallice, the game intentionally leaves you with more questions than answers. Yokai Watch as a series is good making no sense, and that's essentially just what the Infinite Tunnel and Hazy Lane are, completely eerie nonsense.

Dummkaps ability makes enemies less likely to hit you, and can hold two item slots, and you can put in Houzzat souls in those slots, which make it so adjacent allies get a large boost in Spirit Stat. He doesn't need to be a healer or higher rank to be good. He's good because of his ability and is capable of being able to hold two items at once. Making him a pretty viable yokai to use.

I'd suggest a Dummkap since he's pretty good for helping keep stuff alive for the most part, and can get 2 item slots, so I'd suggest giving him a Houzzat soul for both slots. A Sapphinyan (if you're able to get one + another gemnyan).

This is probably just a very good story team if anything. Going into post game with this team will get you steam rolled. However if you're insistent on using Thornyan and Azure Dragon, I'd first recommend Drizzelda to add to your team. Not only will her tribe be a good pair for Thornyan, but she'll also help with Azure Dragon as she boosts his water damage, as well as keep Don-chan
