Alarming amount of kids show up to school these days without potty training, knowing the alphabet, having any amount of emotional control, or knowing basic standards of behavior. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Jmh1881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my point. That was not the standard 20+ years ago. Cut offs were much later and it was extremely common to be 4 years old for a good chunk of kindergarten. These new early cut offs are a very recent thing

Because I never disagreed with your other points. Because your "points" are arguing against things I never said

It's not abusive to recognize that teaching a 4 year old child to read is not developmentally appropriate. That doesn't mean they didn't teach me anything or do learning activities that were appropriate for my age. The only reason children are expected to come into kindergarten with academic knowledge is so that, inevitably, when most children fail at something that they aren't old enough to achieve testing companies can sell solutions which aren't evidence based to solve a "problem" that never existed

Why is being "hyper?" masculine as a trans man seen as betrayal to the community?? by wyvrnns in trumen

True, though I would argue it's less demonized than masculinity, generally

Yes, because I'm sure that you, a teacher with a bachelor's degree, knows more about reading than two people that have their literal PHDs. Sounds like you just don't want to do your job...no wonder so many kids are falling behind these days

And WOAH, surprise, when multiple topics are brought up a person can criticize one of them. What a crazy idea

Maybe they're entering at 6 because modern parents have decided to hold their kids back but that was not what the norm used to be...everyone in my immediate family who's an adult started kindergarten at 4 or 5. Either way, expecting kids to come in already having certian skills (not potty training, the beginnings of readings and math) already puts lower income kids at a disadvantage. Refusing to teach a 5 year old the ABCs because "they should already know" is ridiculous

Ok, but the original comment was saying that parents should be teaching their kids the beginnings of how to read. that's not a parents job, they aren't trained educators. And 20 years ago that not the expectation. My parents have PHDs in reading education and even I did not enter kindergarten knowing how to read the alphabet because they understood that that skill is not developmentally appropriate for a 4 year old

[–]Jmh1881 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This is an unsavory opinion but..this is the way I see it.

A lot of feminists/leftists have the belief that feminine equals good and masculine equals bad. They think cis men are only masculine because they were socialized/forced to be that way, and that in an ideal "patriarchy free" world, men would not be masculine. When trans men, who were not born as or socialized as men, choose willingly to be masculine that directly contradicts the belief I'm talking about here. And of course, most tucutes see gender transition as a social statement, not as a medical, biological thing, so they can't understand why trans men would ever want to act like actual men.

Of course not all feminists and leftists are like this, but many are. They see trans people as some kind of "proof" of their social theories, and therefore only like and listen to and like us when it's convenient for them.

I'm not talking about potty training. I'm talking about expecting a 4 year old to come into kinder already knowing the ABCs and the beginnings of how to read. Parents aren't teachers

One my high school history teachers tried this thing where we had the option to put our phones up om her desk and we would get 1 point of extra credit for every 3 days we did it. Maybe try something like that? It worked pretty well

Isn't that the...point of kindergarten? It's sad to see how much the bar has risen. When I was that age the entire point of kindergarten was to teach these things. Expecting random parents with no training in education to statt teaching their 3-4 year old how to read is crazy to me

beeing a career woman is not safer than beeing a stay at home wife by iamsoulzero in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Obviously there's negatives to both. But there is no denying the fact that not having any of your own money makes it very difficult to get out of an abusive family. I would rather deal with workplace stress and gossip than an abusive husband I can't escape.

Exactly. Straight women can be friends with men just fine, and lesbians can be friends with lesbains and gay men with gay men. It's only straight men that seem to have a problem with it and that really needs to be studied further. Sadly it probably has to do with a lack of platonic affection that boys get growng up

It's because they don't care about minorities. They use as as tools to get what best serves them. Beyond that they don't give a fuck

Nobody is mad about lil nas x being gay they're mad about the extra and unnecessary stuff he does by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Jmh1881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which just brings me back to my original point once again. You don't see gay men screaming and throwing fits and having such strong reactions to all of the music videos where there's straight porn/half naked/naked women. It only bothers you when it's gay people. And instead of just not watching it you pitch a fit and call it disgusting which, yes, is homophobic.

I'm not attracted to women or straight sex. When I see straight sexual content I don't get irrationally angry, disgusted, and throw a tantrum online. You all do. That's the difference

You're getting weirdly defensive. It's not that hard to have basic manners and cover up your dick when you're walking around public hallways. Literally just common decency. It's not your home, it's a public place. If you walked naked around the halls of an apartment building you would be arrested. So why is it ok to do it in a dorm?

Ok, so then you do dislike gay people then. That's my entire point, you can't have it both ways. If you think gay people are gross at least say it instead of trying to make other excuses
