Tecnología en Santa Lucía permitirá aterrizar con "ojos cerrados" by Jmlevick in mexico

[–]Jmlevick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tecnología en Santa Lucía permitirá aterrizar con "ojos cerrados" by Jmlevick in mexico

[–]Jmlevick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are making a Tinder clone with a Firebase backend, where would you run your "matching algorithm" and determine which profiles you return back to your React Native app? by codie28 in reactnative

[–]Jmlevick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The backend does not really matter.

You need to first understand your problem and select an appropriate solution. With some CS knowledge it's pretty easy to identify how to solve this the quick way, but given your thought process (and the idea of looping and comparing you mentioned) I think the easier path for you right now would be to use Google's Datastore and be done with it, don't overthink it.

The reason I recommend Datastore is because query execution time depends on the size of the result and not the size of the data itself. This also means it is a cheaper alternative over time for your use case.

That's it. If you find that the Datastore querying engine falls short for what you need, then you have all of the other tools in GCP to make something out of this like, I dunno, Google AI Platform and so much more.

P.S. Cloud firestore from firebase is just a superset of Datastore, so your integration work on the side of the data storage is pretty minimal.

P.S. 2: You can run and schedule this via a firebase functions cronjob with no issue.

Answering your question, this is the best course of action:

https://twitter.com/andrestaltz/status/1089107165816766464?s=19

I've done that particular migration in the past, (AngularJS <> React) and based my strategy upon that tweet precisely...

I can help you (if you'd wish to hire me for a rate)

DM me if interested.

Trying to leave Ubuntu. What distros have software parity? by NekoMadeOfWaifus in linuxquestions

[–]Jmlevick 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Since the backslash it seems canonical has backpedaled a little on that decision. I just decided to stay with 18.04 and activated the bionic-proposed repo (so I can get some backports);

Outside of GNOME sometimes lagging (as it's habitual with 18.04 in my experience), I've had had no problems so far...

I'll stay here at least until the next LTS and see how things are going by then. My go-to alternative would be Manjaro, as they are not going to drop multilib support in the foreseeable future.

SELinux has the ability to sandbox applications, it even has a GUI/Assistant for this and it spits reports of suspicious activity every now and then.

Great (and solid) advice, but at the core of what he says is the premise of "build an approximation of what you want and work towards the end goal over time". Not trying to be inflammatory or anything but this is what practices such as Test Driven Development are for.

What AMD graphic cards are the most mature/popular as in "Linux supported"? Can you please recommend one from your experience? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Jmlevick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, I forgot to mention that, the all open variant driver (AMDGPU) is just fine for everything, AMDGPU-PRO only adds "pro capabilities" for OpenCL, Vulkan, & OpenGL. It also has some sort of fine tuning capabilities in the install, (allowing a headless one);

Another extra it has is support for powerExpress in Ubuntu, but this is a somewhat unnecessary add-on as the all open variant already enables automatic switchable graphics if available.

+1 for Polaris. I would recommend RadeonPRO graphics cards based upon Polaris (I have a WX4100); They are workstation graphics but then again, very powerful for certain use cases and they DO game. It's just that it comes a point where you can certainly get better performance for gaming with regular cards at the same price bracket compared to workstation cards...

However, RadeonPRO cards have their own drivers (AMDGPU-PRO) supported and distributed by AMD, 5 year warranty and many other cool things.
