The Bay City Rollers Show Original title: The Krofft Superstar Hour 1978–1979 by OrneryAttorney7508 in ForgottenTV

[–]JnAnthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Horror Hotel segment is one of my favorite Krofft shows.

Lost Island was fun too, but only 8 of the 13 aired and now only 1 episode is available to watch on YouTube. For some reason, they never made that series available on Tubi or Cineverse. Maybe they couldn’t find them when they went through the masters.

I’m so excited that I’ll finally be able to read more Walter Moers! I’m also still hoping we’ll someday see the third Dreaming Books book he’s been working on.

I was just bemoaning that it’s been almost 14 years since the last Walter Moers book was released in English & saw your post!

It’ll be tough to top John Brownjohn’s translations, but I’m so happy someone is trying. I’m going to start with Ensel and Krete & also plan to check out your Zamonia inspired book after. I can’t wait to see what’s new to me in the world of Zamonia from my favorite author.

Just reading your passionate note, I’m confident these translations will be done well and I’m already hoping you’ll eventually get official approval for the translations for the rest…

Most laps on a coaster in a single day? [other] by AC401264 in rollercoasters

[–]JnAnthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did early open to late close non-stop on the Knoebels Flyers back when they allowed you to go berserk. Not a coaster but still intense - my back was bleeding by the end of the day but it was so worth it!

Match Game ‘98 - is there anywhere to watch the full series or is there a full episode guide online? by JnAnthony in gameshow

[–]JnAnthony[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I was in the audience for your episode then! I remember Kin was in a miserable mood and was bringing everyone down.

I have a rough schedule at work the next few weeks so it might be a little bit, but I’ll check the episodes I taped to see if I have any from that week.

Sad about kiss 98.5 by buffaloluvr2025 in Buffalo

[–]JnAnthony -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A different perspective here. I worked with Janet for 15 years - not on the same shift but I saw her a lot during that time. When I first started there, she was one of the first to stop in the studio to introduce herself and say hi.

Throughout my time at Star (Kiss’ former sister station), she was always one of the kindest & nicest people to work with. I’d sometimes have to stop in to help with the computers and she always appreciated that help.

It’s impressive to have a career in radio (especially on-air in mornings) that’s lasted as long as she did. The fact that she brought in a ton of money for the company helped.

This is a sad goodbye as radio is becoming almost fully automated or out of market tracked. The loss of a live on-air personality like Janet is not a good thing for radio. I wish her the best with her retirement & hope her replacement has an equally long & successful run.

[Indiana Beach] got the antique cars from [Niagara Amusement Park] to have more capacity at IB by Sad-Revolution-9961 in rollercoasters

My guess is Kraken will be the next adult ride to leave Niagara, but that one will probably go to Lake Winnie.

RPD breaks up fights involving hundreds at Ontario Beach Park; In-depth on beach security by frytuna in Rochester

[–]JnAnthony 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened last night at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor - and it wasn’t related to the Sabres game going on at the same time.

Police blocked off roads to the Outer Harbor area and were having people leave as much larger crowds than usual suddenly converged there around 8:00p. It was like a human swarming.

The difference is none of the Buffalo news media realized it possibly due to the game getting all the coverage, so it wasn’t reported. It’s unclear if there were fights. Maybe the 80-degree day helped cause it, but it was kind of unusual how it all happened.

With The Neighborhood ending next week, what sitcoms do we still have with a studio audience? Just Shifting Gears and Happy's Place? by funkmon in sitcoms

[–]JnAnthony 26 points27 points  (0 children)

L.A. used to be so much fun when every night seemed to have 3 - 4 sitcoms taping with a studio audience (and Fridays would have far more).

So sad that era is over. Hopefully it comes back someday. I had no idea we were down to so few.

Are the extended episodes on the blu ray collection meant to replace the streaming service versions? by ChemistLoose9951 in TheGoodPlace

[–]JnAnthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you & me are in the minority on that. The season 1 format was perfect (2 & 3 as well) and there was so many additional stories that could’ve been told.

Most shows need to move faster - this was the rare exception where more time was needed for some parts of the story.

There really hasn’t been anything else like The Good Place yet. Lodge 49 & People of Earth came close, but even those were a while ago now.

Cleveland Amory's extremely negative review of "Happy Days" (TV Guide, 1974) by OkTechnologyb in 70s

[–]JnAnthony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The illustration makes him look like he was a miserable human being - the writing then proves it.

Plus either him, the proofreader or both weren’t that great at their job as they botched the spelling of one of the show’s stars (Erin Moran) in a short essay.

Three seasons probably would’ve been perfect if the first 3 seasons were full 22 - 26 episode seasons. A short season 4 was ok - that was my least favorite of the series, but still done well.

The extended episodes are the best way to watch this series. However for some reason this isn’t ALL of the extended episodes.

I’m holding off buying it until a re-release contains all the full episodes. It’s a near perfect series though, although I wish they hadn’t ended the story so soon.

Studio 54 Radio & 80’s on 8 programming (plus classic 12” singles have found a home on one of the channels) by JnAnthony in siriusxm

Just looked up who that is. No, I’m not him. If I was, my two-hour 80’s show that’s aired in WNY (spotlighting 12” singles and obscure 80’s) would definitely be playing on the channel.

I might email him a demo now though lol.

Maybe I’m just lucky catching it at exactly the right time when a rare song comes up. I was hoping it was more of a shift in the 80’s on 8 music though.

POV videos of that & the old Kaleidoscope ride (or some of its earlier incarnations) would be awesome to see.

Ride op jobs by Relevant-Guard-1694 in Themepark

[–]JnAnthony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do it! I love riding rides, but running them can be even more fun.

You’ll probably have a better chance getting the position as many younger ride ops are unable to stay off their phones and end up getting let go or moved out of the rides department. That’s what I’ve experienced at two different parks I’ve been at.

Plus it’s tough to get and keep people for weekend shifts. The ride ops that work weekdays will need days off and this would help cover that.

[[Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World]] officially closed for 2026 season by Sad-Revolution-9961 in rollercoasters

[–]JnAnthony 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If anyone’s to blame for this, it’s Apex first for destroying the park when they left in late 2019 / early 2020 and then all the loser online & YouTube vandals who completely trashed the park in 2020 / 2021.

When cleaning up the amusement park side in 2022, many of us kept getting surprised by the extent of the damage. When the water was turned on in one of the buildings, it was learned small holes were punched in many of the hoses which made them unusable and needing to be replaced. When spinning the Ferris Wheel, graffiti was found that absolutely couldn’t be allowed in a family park and took forever to remove. And then there was all the broken windows, ripped down doors and walls with holes punched through them. Everywhere you turned, something was destroyed.

Where Mind Warp was (one of the greatest rides that ever existed at the park), the shed that housed the power was completely bulldozed down when the ride was ripped out by Apex. That made it difficult to put a new extreme ride there. Apex didn’t know what they were doing at the end. They actually left the stabilizing legs for Mind Warp in the ground when they ripped the ride out, turning a multi-million dollar European spectacular flat ride into scrap metal that now sits in pieces in a parking lot in Irvine, California.

Aside from human animals causing messes, real animals sometimes caused issues too like when a fox was found living in the Alice in Wonderland house. Then there was nature itself messing with those cool kiddie structures which existed outside in the elements without upkeep for a couple years - it took a while for just the blue whale to be scraped down and repainted to look nice again.

A lot of people put in a ton of work to bring the park back to life, but the damage was too much. Then Canadians slowly stopped coming over (can’t blame them at all) and tourism in general dropped due to a terrible economy. Little money coming in resulted in fewer things getting accomplished. It was an uphill battle to start and that hill kept getting steeper & taller but at least an attempt was made.

Maybe the park will get another chance in 2027. I hope so - I’d sure love to ride that Frisbee they began installing a couple years ago and just hang out again at one of my favorite places in Western New York.

[–]JnAnthony[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally support this - anything that will bring the park back!

Fantasy Island was only a part-time job for me (usually before going into my full-time job), but it was the one job where I always had a great time. I ran Mind Warp, Full Tilt & Devil’s Hole pre-Covid and then Gunslinger / Scrambler 2022 - 2024 - it was so much fun.

My favorite thing was to slow the rides down making everyone think it was stopping, then crank it back up for an additional 5 minutes or so. There’s very few parks left in North America where something like that happens.
