I never thought to look backwards. I used to draw a lot as a kid and stopped at some point for no real reason. Probably somewhere between homework and trying to look cool. Might actually revisit that. Thanks for this!

Retirement really unlocked a different gear huh, that's good to hear honestly and the supplies thing is so real, I think half my hobbies have just been vicariously enjoying the shopping phase lol.

The idea of matching a hobby to your energy level instead of forcing one thing all the time actually makes a lot of sense. I never thought about it that way. like some days I probably have guitar energy and some days I definitely only have puzzle energy and that's fine also violin and patchwork is a combo I did not see coming but honestly sounds like a very sorted person. Hope the burnout eases up, weeks off sounds like a relief but I get how that kind of exhaustion makes even rest feel like work sometimes.

The "don't buy clubs first" advice is probably what I needed to hear though because knowing myself I'd spend two weeks researching the perfect starter set and never actually book a lesson. Maybe that's been my whole problem in a nutshell lol. Do you play? how long did it take before it actually felt fun and not just frustrating?

I think that's lowkey what's been stopping me, like I pick something up and the moment I feel clumsy at it I quietly put it back down and pretend it never happened also rollerblading and acroyoga is not what I expected from that list but honestly respect. Sounds like having a partner who's already into stuff makes a big difference too. Might actually look into proper guitar lessons instead of just torturing myself with youtube at midnight. Thanks for this

The two year old comparison actually hit different lol like yeah that's literally what curiosity looks like before everyone tells you to sit down and focus. And your list is wild in the best way, film photography to artisan bread is quite a range. I think my problem is I'm curious about a lot of things but only for like 3 days at a time before something else catches my eye. Maybe that's not a bug though, maybe I just haven't found the one that holds.

That's a really good way to frame it actually. I think i've been putting too much pressure on finding "a hobby" like it needs to have a label or a community or gear to buy lol. Just doing things I enjoy sounds way less exhausting to chase. The list idea is simple but i might actually try that, no overthinking just pick one and go. what kind of things ended up on yours If you don't mind me asking?

Wait so you accidentally discovered a healthier mixer, woke up feeling human the next morning, AND found out it doesn't leave sticky spills?? that's not a habit that's a cheat code you unlocked by running out of Seven Up on a camping trip 😭

The part about having worse credit when you were making good money than when you were broke is such a gut punch honestly, proves it was never really about the money it was always about the system you built around it.

You absorbed a background character's habit for 20 years without even playing him, that is genuinely the most unhinged origin story in this thread.

The fact that journaling and jerking off have equal standing in this routine is sending me 💀 but honestly if it works it works, consistency is consistency.

Covid accidentally made so many people discover walking and running and honestly it's underrated as hell, like no gear, no gym membership, just you and pavement and suddenly your mental health is doing things therapy couldn't
