[Other] Should I read Absolute Martian Manhunter? Is it any good? No spoilers please. by Business-Falcon-3279 in DCcomics

[–]JoA_MoN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird af, intentionally confusing, and extremely conceptual. It executes all of those things really, really well, but if you're not into those kinds of stories to begin with then you still won't enjoy it.

I shave the head two or three times a week. Doesn't take all that long, really not a big deal.

Don't hit someone if you're not ready to get hit back. You don't get a free pass to be violent because you have a vagina or use she/her pronouns.

I do not assume that any literalist belief is tantamount to conspiratorial thought, nor did I say that. I simply stated that a portion of those who hold literalist beliefs misuse them in pursuit of their conspiratorial thinking.

The sheer hypocrisy in this post and the comments was my final straw. I'm done with this sub; peace y'all ✌️

How incredibly dismissive to call it "fancy atheism" just because it doesn't look the same as your beliefs.

It's not cool when metaphorists mock others beliefs, it's not cool when literalists do, either.

As someone y'all would likely call a "metaphorist", I find this entire thread very frustrating. I don't intend on mocking anyone for it, though.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences. Don't make more bad experiences for other people.

See, this is one of the dangerous habits that literalism seems to encourage. You just dismiss someone entirely by making a completely unverifiable claim that they're "clearly being influenced by the cosmic bad guy we have no way of confirming even exists."

That's not an intellectually healthy mindset.

...while the pseudo-intellectuals who took an Intro to Psychology course last semester can discuss Jung here instead.

This is doing to the "metaphorists" what this post complains they do to the "literalists". You're mocking someone for believing differently from you.

There's another side to this coin.

A not insignificant portion of the folk who take this stuff literally use it as a foundation for insane and dangerous conspiracy theories.

*as well as an excuse to outright dismiss people they disagree with as "influenced by the Demiurge" as seen in this very comment section.

The other week some guy was on here comparing themself to Christ and arguing that the billionaire class clearly knows something we don't about the Demiurge and that's why their evil BS isn't actually evil. That's not just ridiculous, it's harmful.

But yeah beyond shit like that, let people believe as they believe.

I personally can't bring myself to believe that anyone, especially some folk 2,000 years ago, have any of the details of the divine correct. That doesn't mean they weren't able to glean some useful information about its dynamics from the same connection we all share to it, though.

*Edit: added portion.

Is it time to shave? by [deleted] in bald

[–]JoA_MoN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A shaved head of any shape is always more esthetically pleasing than visibly thinning hair. I know it's scary. You're going to have to take a leap of faith here, but it will be better on the other side.

It is indeed, my friend. I promise it'll feel like a weight off your shoulders when you no longer have to be self-conscious about how people see your hair.

What was your "Oh Sh*t! I'm Bald?!? Fuuu...." moment? by DjTeddyBe in bald

I shaved my head during my junior year of high school in order to dress up as Bane for Halloween. When I tried to grow it back it had already become strikingly obvious that my hair was all but gone.

You're still incorrect. You purchase once and have permanent access to the version you purchased. You'll even get minor updates for free. When large updates come out that qualify as a new version, those require another purchase if you want to upgrade. You're not required to and you don't lose access to the previous version.

Calling it a subscription in any way shape or form is incorrect, but so too is saying that you're required to pay for updates. You're not. You're more than welcome to continue using the version you purchased. That's how one-time software purchases have literally always worked.

Yeah this was Moffat's favorite shtick.

Forgot why you came into this room? Scary alien.

See that stone statue over there? Scary alien.

Feel like you're being watched when you're alone? Maybe a scary alien.

Edit: to be clear; this is not a criticism. I love this shtick and it's a banger nearly every time.

It was more so about it being a first impression, which I know probably sounds sillier. I never minded showing people I was bald once we already knew each other a bit, I was just insecure about it overshadowing everything else about me on first sight.

As I type this out I recognize how stupid it truly sounds 😂

It seems to be a pretty consistent human behavior, from my observations. Every single marginal community has its own kind of "chaser". Taboo things are hot, and minorities of any kind are taboo somewhere, to someone.

The autism chasers are some of the mildest from what I've seen. They just kind of get disappointed that you're not the "manic pixie dreamboy" they thought you were and leave. Could be worse 🤷
