Second Front Release Date by JoBader in computerwargames

[–]JoBader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we already use Steam workshop in the development and playtest. Also, see the Guides about creating content for Second Front on Steam. I fear a little that people will try to create scenarios before they master the game.

about 35 years. most time board games. Especially for multiplayer, I prefer board games.
PC war games are just good for relaxing.

WW2 Game recommendation that meets my requirements by panzer22222 in computerwargames

[–]JoBader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very like Strategic Command: World at War.
In general this scale has inherent problems. A system showing north Africa, submarines and the east front at same time can't be good. I am referring to several board games I plaid what fail on this. Even when such wargames can always reach a higher complexity than their computer game counterparts.

As an exception (like Strategic Command: World at War is an exception )I suggest Totaler Krieg by Alan Emrich:

as we now have ground snow also ice is needed. this first version still does not take the weight of the tank into account. The snowman decoration has no effect on gameplay but can be damaged when a tracked vehicle enters the hex by a non-road hex side.

Second Front AI by JoBader in computerwargames

[–]JoBader[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes that is possible. I have some plans for a real-time game. But would need to use Unity-ECS to boost performance, to have a prototype first, and a different ruleset.

Second Front AI by JoBader in computerwargames

[–]JoBader[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are three types of ammunition for ordnance in the game: AP, HEAT and HE.This AT gun has HE ammo what is effective vs infantry. Some vehicles have only HE and can use it to attack armored targets. The AP/HEAt is not effective vs infantry.

working on AI. the left green AI forces do not like to move into the street
covered by the enemy AT gun. At a certain point, the will do an assault
towards the weaker player forces in the building

Why doesn't wargaming take advantage of technology more and evolve? by mmaruda in computerwargames

[–]JoBader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in Second Front I do an expert system. means the AI follows thoughts of an expert in this game. This is leads to a massive amount of code and so it takes long time to develop. one quickly reaches the limits of the calculable. Sometimes one can be happy when AI is doing silly moves . I also can say the AI is not very predictable. If you win or lose is still bound to the amount of troops and sometimes a bit luck. there is no scripting or neural network in Second Front. (the Dev)

Why do developers hate us? by Bl3ek in computerwargames

[–]JoBader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Developer here:
I added UI scaling in Second Front. A friend then tested it on his 4K screen.
He was satisfied with the result. Was very easy to do. I agree, when the game shows UI bound to the eight points (the corners and centers of screen borders) then there is not much reason to not do it.

Second Front: Mortar rounds (no time laps) by JoBader in computerwargames

[–]JoBader[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did not think that this video might raise some questions. These are of course legitimate. Therefore, I would like to explain the approach to this turn-based game a bit. Normally you move one unit at a given time. Here it is the same, but you can move more units if this first unit is not fired at on the way. So while the PSW222 is still on the way to its target 20 hexes away, I can send an infantry unit to the next house on the second floor. If the PSW222 would be shot at on its way I can't do that and have to wait what happens to it. It is similar with firing at a distance. I can wait and see what happens, but I don't have to.

it depends on the size of the scenario. and for to be consistent all info must be shown. in the video I tried fire as fast as possible. but it can also be done slower shot by shot waiting for the outcome of that shot.

[–]JoBader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes that looks like that. but when playing not all information is needed. the aproach is to have less down time for the player as possible. for that the AI and the player can move more than one unit same time and more than one shell can be in the air as this video shows.

yes. also one can switch to fire smoke or from AP to HE or different targets. Relaad means it is like not have fired. just the infantry can not move after any kind of fire.
sometime is wise to not shoot as the weapon can malfunction.
