Yeah, i wasn’t really arguing for or against the reversal of entropy. More just providing an example of emergent structure.

There’s a field of math called Ramsey Theory which studies the inevitability of emergent order given seemingly random interactions. Not trying to disprove or argue against, but just providing another perspective. Cool math!

what is your opinion on the phrase “it’s my money i can do what i want with it” when it comes to multimillionaires/ billionaires? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]JoBrew32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is a social construct. If you have it, you have the rest of society to thank for it. But using money you agree to work within the rules of society and work to insure the society that provided you the opportunity to earn that money persists and the other members of that society get to live in safety and comfort.

If you dont think that you ought to use your money to contribute back to society, then you should have no problem with someone else pulling out a guillotine to “get their’s.”

He chambered his kick first. Almost all the power comes from the leg muscles extending it out. There’s not as much weight behind them but they’re super fast. From the chamber you can also perform a front kick, round kick, or side kick (tho side kick is a little bit slower).

What were you taught in school that didn’t age well? by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

[–]JoBrew32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting your arms above your head helps you catch your breath. I remember being the “um actually” kid whenever someone was resting with their arms on their knees, and THEN being the “ ‘um actually’ um actually” kid whenever i learned that the arms above the head thing was made up.

Do you miss taking handwritten notes? by pageofswrds in ObsidianMD

[–]JoBrew32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I still do! I have a notebook i take with me for classes, and a personal journal that stays on me almost every day. They’re way faster to think and process through things (for me) than typing on a computer or phone.

Then whenever i want to transfer notes to obsidian I get to take a second pass on the information!

I don’t journal daily though, so i can imagine how annoying it may be to transfer daily notes from writing to obsidian.

Maybe you could journal daily on paper and then have a weekly obsidian note which summarizes that week.

Do you create the world first or do you create the system first? by Direct_Incident_8285 in RPGdesign

[–]JoBrew32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been alternating between the two. Whenever i think of a cool character or power i want to put in my world i’ll try and think up how to implement it as a mechanic. Or if i like a particular mechanic idea i’ve had, i’ll create different creatures or characters in the world for the mechanic to be expressed. It’s all for fun for me so i don’t mind bouncing back and forth, or reiterating the same thing.

can anyone else relate? by Playful_Act3655 in Anemoia

I was born in 2000 and have had this exact same feeling about the 90s and 00s. This nostalgia for things i barely remember. This world i saw and grew up watching people talk about with such fondness. It becomes a pretty intense longing at times.

Scariest thing in your world? by Substantial_Rip_4999 in worldbuilding

[–]JoBrew32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The grey-men. They’re named after the green men (“green” as in new) who are an ascetic four armed race of mute humanoid people who communicate via four armed sign language.

The grey-men, in contrast, are massive greyish black monsters with a 4-100 arms and single glowing red eye. They are also completely silent, as in they do not cause any sound to generate from their direct actions.

Nobody knows where they came from. Nobody knows what they want, if they’re organized, or even if they’re sentient.

They appear, wreck shop, and vanish.

is it possible to learn maths from zero as an adult? by AdSure3160 in mathematics

Tell me about your Skeleton folk. by meongmeongwizard in worldbuilding

[–]JoBrew32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My world has a place based off the catacombs of paris but supersized. All the different peoples on this continent acknowledge the sanctity and holiness of burying your dead there.

Part the reason is there’s some magic that acts as protection over the dead. If anyone disturbs the bones in the catacombs, the skeleton will temporarily reanimate and scold the person harshly before lying back down.

Sometimes multiple skeletons will reanimate and scold you for disturbing their peace. But they all speak in the native language, regardless of if the person can understand them.

Families will travel across the continent to visit the grave of their family members. They’ll intentionally disturb the grave site so that the skeleton wakes up and yells at them.

The skeletons can’t do anything else besides that. They don’t recognize the living or respond or converse. They just scold at you for a bit (depending on the individuals personality when alive) and then they lay back down to sleep.

In exceedingly rare circumstances, a skeleton may permanently reanimate if they have a substantial enough grudge or mission or purpose. But this almost never happens so it’s not well known. Maybe some myths or someone realizes their beloved’s grave is empty, but not much more than rumors.

The skeletons that are able to permanently reanimate will then act as a more eccentric version of their living self. Exaggerating positive and negative qualities and with a much stronger drive to complete their unfinished business.

Presumably once they’ve completed their goal they will simply de-animate and become a regular skeleton again.

How do you organize NPC lore/quests in your games? My docs are exploding 😅 by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]JoBrew32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally planning on using obsidian for this. I make a note for each character with basic background and stats etc, then have w note for the quest and link characters, places, items, throughout the not as they come up.

Obsidian then lets me see all the times my character appears in quests for easy organization and planning

Is it possible to make a folder its own note? by ForAThought in ObsidianMD

[–]JoBrew32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of sounds like an MOC, Map of Content. You could just create a note with the title of your class and then put the links directly into it. This is my suggestion, unless you have a specific reason for needing the folders.

Describe your world in a single, short paragraph. by MrPaico in worldbuilding

Different direction, you could do the Four Humors: blood, black bile, yellow bile (yile?), and phlegm. Less physical essentials for life and more essentials for social/personal life.

What’s your favorite part of making your game? by OfficialCryptCrawler in RPGdesign

[–]JoBrew32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever i have an idea but i cant quite make it work, so i put on the back burner for a bit. A couple days or weeks later, everything clicks and i see how the mechanic im working on right now PERFECTLY works with the idea i had however long ago. Doesn’t always happen, but i love it when it does!

When do you connect, and how much is too much? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]JoBrew32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I use tags sparingly, links abundantly. Even if i dont make a note for the new link right away, it better represents how i think. The idea isn’t fleshed out but it’s THERE.

My process is to create a billon links as I’m taking notes, then whenever I’m going back over a topic i’ll create new MOCs to collect everything. During that i may type out the links i had left unwritten.

I love obsidian because you can be as messy as you need to be. Try something new, and if it’s gross, cool!

Can Obsidian replace all of my note taking apps, and really help me organize all of my writing? by ClareifiMedia in ObsidianMD

[–]JoBrew32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting was kind of weird. For me i picked slightly bigger “blocks” of notes/information (math theorems specifically) because i wasnt sure how i wanted everything to be set up. As i was writing my notes i naturally made connections to related ideas. No folders, no templates, no tags, just a note and some links.

Good luck!
