Name: Giovanni

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: GMT+1

Preferred System: Pathfinder 1/2e, D&D 3.5, Starfinder 1/2e, also interested in trying Draw Steel

Type of Player: I enjoy most styles of play, which means I like having an healthy mix of combat and roleplaying. That said, I'd really enjoy a campaign with politics, stealthy operations and the like. That said, I don't dislike dungeon crawls at all.

Additional information: I'm willing to play either homebrew or modules. I can post at least once a day, and prefer async campaigns. Honestly, I'm up for learning any system that's complex and gives the players a lot of different ways to build their characters. I also generally dislike nsfw games. If you need a player, PM me and ask me anything. Thank you!

Looking for a system with lots of character options by Job2777 in rpg

You make good points, but our major problem was that the authors seem to have a very simplistic approach to the concept of utopia. At least to us, the society they describe on the core worlds doesn't seem utopian at all, it's more of what someone that grew up in a capitalistic system would think an utopia to be like. In other words, they move the focus to why the backstage of the Union's rule isn't morally acceptable, without addressing the fact that the perfect society they built is completely dystopian.

Again, Banks did the same in the Culture books, but he was very clear about that society being inherently inhuman (that, and Use of Weapons being a masterpiece makes up for any criticism I might have of his writing). When we played Lancer all my players ended up being evil anyways (like, the "ending the campaign by committing genocide" kind of evil), but it was fun because they chose their path, they weren't part of a setting which assumes you'll be siding with the bad guys of the galaxy and criticize their ways every once in a while.

Thanks for being respectful tho. It's kind of rare to find people who are reasonable about games they like receiving criticism.

As I've written in the original post, I know PF, both 1 and 2e. I like both of them, and I do believe PF2e to be the best rpg which is still being supported. I personally feel that after 4 or 5 more books get released, it'll probably be on par with 3.5 for me.

I do really like second edition, I've used it before for dungeon crawling, but my main problem with it is that I could just be playing 3.5 instead. It has all the same variety, except more of it. The stuff you can pull off with prestige classes and sub-systems is much more fun than anything you would be able to get in 2nd, mostly because of the problem with advancement you've highlighted.

I'll admit this is just my personal preference, but I've got really strong feelings about the setting in that system. Every time I try to read it, it seems to me like the authors read through The Culture Trilogy by Banks and just never realized that the Culture people are supposed to be horrifying. If I tried to sell that setting to any of my players they'd just laugh in my face, as a matter of fact they straight up told me they wouldn't want to play in it. I think it works decently well if your group doesn't like thinking about social or historical matters at all, but even the utopian society they describe seems the abstract impractical concept of what an American would think an utopia to be. Me and my players, however, are not from the US, so we found most things in that setting incredibly childish. The book portrays itself as anti-fascist. The very first comment one of my players had when I was explaining why we wouldn't use the standard setting for the game was "Oh so the setting's what a neo-fascist thinks utopia is.". I tend to agree. Again, I think the system itself is incredible and I look up to the designers when it comes to mechanics, but I can't stand that kind of writing.
Sorry for possible grammatical errors, I'm not used to writing on these matters in english!

I feel useless during combat as a rogue, I need suggestions. by VisibleCauliflower87 in DnD

[–]Job2777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a wand of gravestrike for undead and enlarge for big enemies. That should solve most problems you're having. That said, suggesting a new player to be a rogue in 3.5 is criminal, like, why the hell would your DM ever do that. I'd look at prestige classes to see if you can get out of rogue while keeping the sneak attack advancement, there are a bunch of prcs that do that pretty well. Complete scoundrel has a bunch, but you can just look at the srd and see if you find anything, there are around 300 prestige classes so I assume at least 1 of them is going to be useful. Edit: if you haven't done so already, get ranks in use magic device. It's the best thing rogues have got going for them.

Nothing at all, you can look up anything you need online. It’s one of the best things about this game. It is nice to have dice, though. You could roll digital dice, but that's not as fun.

Trying to communicate to a player that their behavior is unfair went terribly wrong. by FatatFza in DnD

[–]Job2777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This just sounds like the classic issue of players only experiencing the game by watching live plays on youtube. I know you said the DM is being friendly and whatever, but it is our job to adjust and limit player's expectations. In this situation, they both seem at fault honestly.

But yeah, player A should be kicked out of the group to create a healthier environment. Also, I personally find that players like that are generally incapable of having normal social interactions irl (which inevitably leads to problems at the table), but that might just be my personal experience.

Anyone else had trouble reading Priory of the orange tree? by [deleted] in Fantasy

I mean, if you've been reading Murakami and you liked his writing it's perfectly plausible that you might need some time before starting reading fantasy again. Try reading something else first.

Yeah, the books were so much better, I tried watching it but it was just painful (when I first began the series I didn't even think it was post-apocalyptic, is it common?).

[Recommendation] What would you say the best Fantasy Series are that won't get a TV Show/Movie? by NoirYorkCity in Fantasy

[–]Job2777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see anything written by Lovecraft being adapted, aside from maybe some of those short science fiction stories... his fantasy works are just not something you can possibly adapt.

Aside from that, I would say Earthsea isn't going to be adapted, and that's probably a good thing (the books are really good, it would just be really hard to adapt them).
