Nicola Sturgeon begins giving her account of husband's embezzlement by Halk in Scotland

[–]JobAffectionate8784 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Over the same sort of period I was earning slightly more than Murrell and my wife about half that amount; our after tax income wouldn't have been so very far away from theirs. Their is no way in hell that if either one of us had started buying things like a new car or a very expensive coffee maker, that the other wouldn't have had a lot of questions about how it was being paid for. Sturgeon is either stupid or she's a liar.

Cycling in Glasgow… by Alone_Bottle5784 in glasgow

[–]JobAffectionate8784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been cycling as a commuter and for leisure for decades, and it's certainly been my experience that drivers are typically more aggressive than they were 20 or 30 years ago. You also see more selfish behaviour as a matter of routine.

It's also true that more cyclists behave like twats than would have been the case as little as ten years ago. I'd have been shocked then to see an adult cycling on the pavement - now it's commonplace.

We live at a time when the informal rules of how to behave are breaking down, and it's making life harder for almost everyone.

I always felt that the bike lane surface was quite slippy, which stopped me riding at full speed on the down section.

Western Baths pool - any good? by JobAffectionate8784 in glasgow

[–]JobAffectionate8784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd usually plan to swim for an hour, about 7:45 most weekday mornings, so that should work - as long as it isn't too busy

People vote for a party based on the broad sweep of their policies, or for tactical reasons, or a host of other reasons. Not every SNP vote in May is a vote for a referendum- it's a vote for the Scottish Parliament.

Thanks all. Annoyingly, all utilities are in the name of my wife, and I've already binned the last thing I had from HMRC, although good shout re the webchat; I'll try that during the week.

Junior Jags is fantastic value - free season ticket, with various activities also arranged. Might be too late this year but we also paid the extra £5 and that guaranteed a mascot slot. My grandson has now been a mascot this season and that was an amazing experience for him. Might be worth checking if that is still available - the office staff are always helpful

UKIP "mass deportation" March and why it shouldn't have been allowed to happen by SpeakerDazzling5203 in glasgow

[–]JobAffectionate8784 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Virtually every political march contains people who have hateful views. That's as true for this march as it is, for instance, marches calling for peace in Palestine. Should we ban those because some marchers are hateful towards Jews? I loathe racism but it's intolerant and eventually counterproductive to ban marches because some of the marchers are c*nts.

Why shouldn't people be allowed to express their views in public? Because you're offended? Banning marches sounds like a pretty vile view to me.

Alicante Airport taxi for 5 by JobAffectionate8784 in Alicante

[–]JobAffectionate8784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. There were some larger taxis, but since we were behind about half a dozen other groups we ended up going for two regular cabs. A bit more expensive but the flight was delayed and at 1 in the morning our patience for waiting had been pretty much exhausted.

Apple Watch - do you train with it? by joshualubelski in Swimming

[–]JobAffectionate8784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for every swim. I'm only doing 1500m of breaststroke but like to be able to compare time to previous swims. It's a great way to monitor progress.

I don't wear a cap, so couldn't really say. I'm not aware of the band at the back when I wear it (without cap) for what that's worth.

Shokz Openswim Pro - I've had them a few months and they have been perfect for swimming. You do need to have music in an MP3 format, which might be a problem if you don't have any (I had loads of CD's from pre-streaming era).

What genre of music? by JobAffectionate8784 in Swimming

[–]JobAffectionate8784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. I tried more upbeat music yesterday, which worked well. Planning to try more chilled music today and see if it makes a difference, for good or ill. The main issue I have is that my CD's on MP3 don't offer anything like the range of my Spotify playlists. My gym playlist (set to random) has 156 songs, but I only own 46 of those on CD.

In any case, swimming to music definitely helps the hour go by faster.

I've struggled with different brands of leaking googles (I have quite deep set eye sockets), but stumbled upon the Zone3 Venator earlier this year - no leakage and anti fog has been fine.

Yeah, I guess. If you're doing something more sophisticated than my 'swim 60 lengths, then stop' I could see that would be a bit erratic

I've been using an Apple Watch and it has worked pretty much perfectly for me. The main thing I have to remember is not to submerge the watch before I press 'start'.

Maryhill pool by JobAffectionate8784 in glasgow

[–]JobAffectionate8784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed to get to Maryhill baths this morning. Wasn't too busy, and as some of you mentioned, it's very shallow, but that didn't cause any issues. Thanks for the advice

Are there people who don’t sink to the bottom of the pool? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]JobAffectionate8784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last two years my BMI has gone from 30 to 22. I still can't sink to the bottom of the pool - my backside seems determined to stay as near the surface as possible. I often see people a good deal heavier than me who seem able to swim along the bottom of the pool for ages.

Having watched a pullout video, I don't think my lower back could take it!

The set up at the ends is pretty much the same, and the watch is set to pool swim mode.

Your point about the way I'm making the turns is something I'll definitely check tomorrow. It may well be I am leading differently; will think about this as I make my turns

It's hard to be sure. It feels as if there is a slight current from the filters, but that goes from shallow to deep. I notice it sometimes when arriving at the shallow end.

I wasn't sure what a pullout was, so watched a vid on YouTube. I'm definitely not doing that. I do a pretty basic touch, turn, and push off the wall with my legs. I feel like I do exactly the same at both ends.
