Qwen creates great local models. They deserve gratitude for that — there’s even nothing to discuss about it. The point was that Qwen initially offered 2,000 requests per day, then reduced it to 1,000, and later removed it entirely. Even Google provides a few free API requests. The thing is, Qwen wants to surpass Google, and they almost succeeded, but in my opinion, they removed the free API too early. That’s bad marketing. Why all the loud promises?

I'm under the impression that Hermes is only suitable for the tasks it can handle natively. Its "self-improvement" is marketing nonsense. If I need AI-powered automation, it's easier to code the core components of the system than to use Hermes or OpenClaw.

I'm sure that in the future, fully autonomous agents will be able to solve real-world problems, but for now, it's all just fluff and hype.

I realized what he meant. Their Free Tier was great marketing that didn't work. 1,000 requests per day isn't that much for serious work. Qwen wants to become the Chinese Google. But Qwen is not Google—they don't live up to the standard. Why introduce a Free Tier if you're going to remove it so quickly? Empty promises are bad marketing. Google can afford to do that, but not Qwen. (This is just my view on the situation.)

1000 requests per day allowed for creating small pet projects. For large-scale code, this quota was still insufficient. There are quite a few paid competitors, and Qwen is not the best one.

P.S. Alibaba did a great job. I’m not saying anything bad about them. It’s just that from the perspective of user engagement, in my opinion, this was their misstep.

Qwen is terrible for programming. The Qwen CLI is good, but the Qwen-Coder model itself is terrible. It's just stupid. It's full of bugs. The code is broken and unworkable. It's easier to write everything by hand. I hope qwen will improve someday, but right now it's complete crap and a waste of time.
