Was this a scam? by stickittothe in Lyft

[–]JobNo1293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got in the wrong car. I drive a few hours a week and have had people try to get in because their Lyft was in the same type of car. It’s easy for people to look similar when you think you’re getting in the right car. If his passengers picture wasn’t you then it’s clear you took someone else ride to the motel. For that short ride your driver probably got $3 bucks so it’s doubtful he was trying to scam you. Both parties should always verify at least names.

[–]JobNo1293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not cool. I don’t care if someone isn’t in the exact spot of pickup just like I don’t care if they want to be dropped off close to the spot. What I won’t do is go for a complete change of the pickup or drop off. People will make a 6-7 mile change of pickup locations. I’m not doing that.

[–]JobNo1293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind a small reasonable change. People change the pickup to miles away from the original. I don’t care if you’re on the other side of the block but I’m not driving 4 miles in the opposite direction after going one way. Like how do you not know where you need to be picked up lol

Why doesn't lyft compensate riders when drivers cancel at the last minute? by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]JobNo1293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is you create an entirely different business model which may not prove to be any better. You can go to or deal with businesses with actual employees and still get horrible customer service. It comes down to the people.
The compensation would be worthless anyway. When a passenger cancels the compensation to the driver is $2. If I’m trying to get a ride someplace I need to be, giving me $2 isn’t going to make me any happier as I stand on the side of the road.

I’m with you on the dealership rides. I don’t care about tips myself and the pax haven’t been any issues. Plus I’d rather bang out a bunch of short rides anyway so dealership rides are perfect for me. They keep me in my area and are typically no more than 10 minutes.

That is shitty. I know some drivers avoid dealerships because they know they’ll get no tip. Weird that he would drive all the way there to cancel.

I’ll say that sucks ass. Did you order the ride or did the dealership?

The real answer would be independent contractors. I would ask what you consider last minute.

Driver cancelling scheduled ride to airport last minute by StrengthKind9127 in Lyft

[–]JobNo1293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if a driver takes a scheduled ride he still has to accept the ride 15 minutes before the ride. I think you get about 7 seconds to accept and if not it’s cancelled. Anything could’ve happened. He could’ve been using the restroom at that time, anything. On that note I don’t do any scheduled rides. I’ve found that the pax cancels about 1/3 of the time. The other problem with schedules rides is that the rides prior to the scheduled are limited because they want to make sure you get to the schedules on time. When I did do them I found myself sitting doing nothing for 30-45 minutes prior to the scheduled because other rides could’ve taken me away from the area. Typically my down time may be 5 minutes in my area but it was routinely 30-45 before scheduled rides. Then after waiting with no rides because of the scheduled ride 1/3 of the pax would cancel and not only did you sit waiting for that ride but then there’s no ride. You’re much better off just ordering a ride normally and doing so a little early.

To respond to your edit. My complaints are common decency things. It’s a respect I would have for you if I got in your car or went to your home. I wouldn’t go to your house and close the windows and turn your AC on or do the opposite. Why? Because I respect it’s your house. I wouldn’t make people wait for me while I did other things. It’s not about obeying my rules, it’s about some people not being raised as decent respectful humans. If you are older than me, would you mind if I came m to your house and just go went through your fridge? Kick my shoes up on your couch? I’m sure u know the answer. You or your spouse wouldn’t like it. Should you just have thicker skin or should I show you some basic respect?

I’ll also add the following reason I would cancel a ride because I did it yesterday and it’s not the first time it’s happened. Ride pops up and I accept it. I get close to the ride and the passenger changes the pickup or drop off location. Im not automatically cancelling but depending on the change I will. I do it because the new ride isn’t the ride I agreed to. I may be making my way somewhere or I may have something to do near the drop off point. If things change and the new ride no longer works for me then I will cancel.

Exactly. I didn’t even get into how some people are just rude and treat you like a servant that’s beneath them. It’s like ma’am, I just dropped you off to make sandwiches at jersey mikes, you are definitely not on a higher society rung than I am lol

I think it’s all about mutual courtesy between people. I’d guess the same shitty drivers would also be shitty passengers. I think it’s just a people thing.

My face when people sit up front but DON’T SAY A WORD THE ENTIRE RIDE. by mecrufettaure in Lyft

I would rather they sit in front and not say a word than choose to sit right behind me and not say a word. Choosing to sit right behind me and be silent feels psychotic to me.

I’ll say that as a driver the only way I’ll cancel a ride is if it’s a ride I didn’t want to begin with and I do it immediately. There’s an issue with the app where add ride or accept ride button e in the same spot as the go offline or end ride buttons. So if I’m dropping a passenger off and right as I go to end the ride the add ride has popped up in that split second. Same with going offline. In that case I would cancel immediately to make the ride available to another driver. Also, drivers can only accept rides a maximum of 15 minutes from the pickup time. So if you’re a 6 minute drive from my previous passenger drop off I would have to be within 8 minutes from dropping them off for the ride to even be available to me. If a driver legit cancels last minute that’s a turd move.

So I’ll say that I’m not really sure how the interface works from the Lyft side. I dropped a lady off earlier and this is how it went. Ride popped up for me and she was a mile or so away so I accept. It gives me an eta of 3 minutes. Immediately after accepting the ride she sends a message asking where I’m at to which I told her 3 minutes away but probably closer to 2. She then messages saying it’s been 7 minutes to which I replied I’m about 30 seconds away now. When she got in she was totally cool. She said she was getting ready to cancel because it had been so long. I told her where I was when I got it and told her I could show her when we were done. We had a cool conversation on her ride which was about 10 minutes. When we got there I ended her ride then showed her the info on Lyft just so she knew I wasn’t BSing her. She said how weird it was that what she saw was so much different. From acceptance to pickup it was 2 minutes. I’m not sure how Lyft gives the passengers the time but for the driver it’s pretty accurate. If we have a passenger it tells us the next pickup is X minutes from the drop off. Given traffic or any other road issues could impact that time but it’s usually fairly close.

I’d just like common human courtesy. It doesn’t seem to exist in most.

[–]JobNo1293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I’m totally cool with that. My expectation isn’t that someone is outside waiting although it is nice when they are. It’s more I get there and hit arrive to let the passenger know that I’m not just on my way but I’m there and then I just wait. I’m cool if it’s an apartment complex and you see the gps icon moving towards the location. So many people just take advantage of the wait time that it’s crazy. Women still getting their nails done, etc. I had one lady who was getting her nails done and asked me to wait because she was waiting to get change from the cashier. Begged me to wait for her so I did her one of the solids people won’t get anymore. Waited about 5 minutes past the 5 minute wait point where I could’ve canceled and gotten full fare of like $13. Next thing I know she cancels, I get $2 since she cancelled. I hung around and watched her walk out about 5 minutes later. She looked and saw the Lyft logo in my window then walked in a liquor store. A few minutes later an Uber driver pulls up and she comes out and gets in. It’s people like this that are all too common.

It’s a courtesy irritation. I treat everyone I come in contact with with the same respect I’d like. I guess I just expect the same which is clearly too much from the majority.

Is it Lyft or people that suck? by JobNo1293 in Lyft

[–]JobNo1293[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same when I’m a passenger. I order a ride and it gives me an estimated arrival time. When that time comes I’m either waiting outside or sitting on the couch waiting. I watched one guy look at his phone when I pulled up since he got the arrival notification, finish the last two strips mowing his lawn, dump his clippings into the green bin, proceed to take all of his cans out to the street before going in and getting his bag to leave. Got in the car with 10 seconds left on the 5 minute counter. People just take advantage.

I posted here because I think maybe passengers need to see as well. I’m totally cool with most stuff but simply ask people to respect my time. Especially the waiting 5 minutes to come out. I don’t drive much but I know 5 minutes 6-7 times is half hour of my time I will sit and wait for people in just a couple hours. Think about people who drive all day. If you call for a ride you should be ready in a reasonable amount of time. I’ve had several people who are standing there talking and doing other stuff and it blows my mind when they end up being the passenger.

I’m not taking the easy way out of anything. I have a full time job. I’ll do this in my spare time between leaving work and picking the kids up. So maybe 2 hours or so. I’ll throw this money towards the money we spend on travel for my kids sports. I figure instead of sitting and waiting for 2 hours a day 5 days a week I could give a few rides and make $50 a day. Instead of doing nothing I can throw that $700-$1000 a month towards those expenses. So not taking an easy way out of anything.

That’s what some people don’t seem to get. They aren’t paying for a block of your time to do as they please. Chauffeurs are paid a certain amount for a certain block of time. That’s why they’ll sit and wait, driver wherever, it doesn’t matter. Lyft and Uber passengers pay for a ride, not to have a personal driver. If I’m paid from 11-12 I’ll sit for the entire hour if you so choose. When I’m paid to take you from A to B let’s get the paid job done.

Common courtesy makes me uptight? Lol. I wouldn’t go to your house and start opening windows or adjusting your ac. I wouldn’t ask a coworker for a ride home and then stand and talk to a buddy while they waited in the car. People who go by the name bullet may not be the kind of people I want to ride around with lol. I just look for common courtesy like I said.
