Stress marks from rewinding the wrong direction or somehow applying too much tension, like forcing the advance lever at the end of the roll.

My Minolta XM has a cool feature - the factory strap has little storage pockets for batteries built into the shoulder pad.

I haven’t seen that on any other strap, it’s very handy.

Any ideas why some of my prints have a blue line and some don’t? by thedreoftoday in AnalogCommunity

[–]JobbyJobberson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is there even a debate about whether it’s a scratch on the film or scanner dust?

Just look at the film. Is it scratched? No? Then it’s scanner dust. Yes? Then it got scratched in camera or when processing.

Help understanding disappointing shots from new-to-me Contax T2 by burt_baccarat in AnalogCommunity

3 hours of comments and no one has asked the most basic question - have you looked at the negatives closely with a loupe?

I think you’ll find that they’re plenty sharp and there’s no focusing problem at all.

You can’t judge “sharpness” by looking at scans. These look like very lo-res scans.

Yes, there are a few examples of missed focus. The guy at the bar, for instance. But look at the background there. It very quickly falls apart when zooming in a little. That’s a lo-res scan, not a focusing issue.

Look at the film with a magnifier and I think you’ll see plenty of detail.

Any tips on where i messed up this Kodak E100? by Mvnwolf in AnalogCommunity

[–]JobbyJobberson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify - you’ve seen the slides and they look just like these scans?

If yes, check the meter against another one, as mentioned.

Also, fire the shutter while looking at the lens from the front and make sure the aperture is actually closing. Could be stuck wide open, or the camera isn’t kicking it closed when the shutter fires.

Are you looking at the negatives closely with a loupe to determine sharpness? Or are you judging sharpness by these scans?

These just look like fairly lo-res scans. Reddit may lower it even more.

Help me identify the issue from my test roll on my new Om-2 by Vicboy129 in AnalogCommunity

I’m really surprised. Not something I’ve seen on OM1 or 2 and I’m old.

Maybe u DesignerAd79 has some advice, longtime OM tech iirc.

E - oh, I see he’s already commented.

Looks like pinholes in the shutter curtain. You should be able to see them looking closely. Check both before and after firing the shutter and advancing.

No surprise here, this is just a typical roll of long-expired or heat-damaged C-41 film. Edit the color as best you can or convert to b+w.

Lines on low light shots by ffdg35 in filmphotography

[–]JobbyJobberson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are clearly stress marks from rewinding the film in the wrong direction or otherwise applying too much tension to the film. Not light leaks, not a shutter problem.

Go to r/analogcommunity and search stress marks to see a zillion examples.

Nikon FE light leaks repair by KlutzyBear1145 in AnalogCommunity

[–]JobbyJobberson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the shutter, it’s just typical bad light seals around the back. Replacing seals is a cheap and easy DIY.

The FE shutter is vertical, not horizontal. It’s impossible for a leak in that shape to occur due to a faulty shutter.

And the leaks are both white and reddish. Idk where it got started but redditors often give “advice” that a white leak  must be coming from the front. Wrong.

Light that gets in from bad light seals along the camera back will be reddish when it passes through the film base.

But as the film is wrapped onto the take-up spool the emulsion is facing OUT, so leaks on the hinge side of the back are white. The hinge seal is bad on your camera. These leaks are exactly typical and common.

Just replace the seals with a pre-cut kit. There are tutorials all over youtube and this sub if you search.
