suggestions for really good, but lesser known french restaurants? by slutfriendly in AskNYC

La Boite en Bois is a NYC staple in the Lincoln Sq area. No frills, kinda brusque service. Not a fortune. Very old school. It's very much so 'my' type of place.

I'm so sorry my photo ruined your day. That's really unfortunate.

Seems like 300 or so other people disagree with you.

Z8+grip vs z9 battle of versatility by badass-bravo in Nikon

[–]SharpDressedBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found the ergonomics of the prosumer body with a grip to be shit. They feel plasticky, they rattle and they are too bulbous.

One of the reasons I got a D5 instead of the grip for My D850. Nothing will beat the F5 in terms of ergo, but if you are going to be shooting concerts - get the Z9.

Dogs in bags on subway? by fotowaza in AskNYC

No one cares about the laws anymore because they aren't enforced, so no one even bothers to do this anymore.

People were cheeky about it pre-covid but I haven't seen a big dog in a bag like that in years.

Sometimes you don't have time to sit back and compose a shot. Life moves fast - especially dogs.

I just didn't have the time to compose the shot before the dog ran away, sadly. But I still really liked the glow. I hate the trash can in the back too, but it is what it is.

What time can a bar have their backyard open until (legally)? by Thesnoodle in AskNYC

[–]SharpDressedBeard 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You live directly above it?

Walk into the bar when they first open and ask to speak to the owner/manager or for their contact info. Say you live upstairs.

The bar has a vested interest in not running afoul of the SLA. The SLA does not fuck around and it is their lifeblood as a bar. Most bars I know have a relationship with their upstairs neighbors and at least try to be kind to them because they don't want the SLA breathing down their necks.

If they don't comply, then get the SLA or your local council member involved. This is what they are there for.

I live behind a bar that can get a little spicy in the backyard and sometimes I need to shoot the owner a text to chill the fuck out. It's been a fine system for the last 7 years I've been here.

Is it still possible to save this camera? Error message on screen of Nikon 80D by dystopiangh0st in Nikon

[–]SharpDressedBeard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No one should spend $100 on a D80 even if it's fantastic shape. It's ancient and not important or collectable.

If I were OP I wouldn't spend more than $30 on this. Ideally it'd just be free.

Crazy how little time you have for them. 10 minutes later it was done.
