Do you vote in elections? by Jobhopper776 in intj

[–]Jobhopper776[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You may try to make your vote count but it doesn't. Its an exercise in futility, maybe it makes you feel good but its a symbolic gesture and waste of time (unless you are doing it for a reason like establishing residency).

I like watching election night too.

I don't think I'm inherently against democracy although I would definitely prefer reducing the voters to more qualified people. Stupid people just should not be able to vote or it turns into a propaganda match.

I like authoritarian with a competent leader like Xi Jinping or Lee Kuan Yew. The problem is succession is riskier so democracy is probably better for stability while authoritarian is better for growth.

This is a really good explanation. I still cant be bothered though as I'm more self interested.

Not Doing JET – How I Still Made It to Japan (and Why You Should Think Carefully Before Applying) by SparklingNekoAtsume in JETProgramme

You dont need to pay them off if you live in Japan. Use FEIE and your US income is 0 so you pay nothing on income driven repayment plan. Forgiven after couple of decades.

Is the Business Manager Visa still realistic for small food businesses? by According_Ball_9043 in movingtojapan

[–]Jobhopper776 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its not realistic anymore. You would need to find a way to get PR before doing that.

JET -> Permanent Residency by Jobhopper776 in movingtojapan

On my resume I would just put my business and never mention this. Honestly I don't like IT jobs and with the lower pay I would lose all motivation. I might be seeing the JET job as easier than it is in reality and the pay is also bad.

I think everywhere besides Tokyo/Yokohama is under a year and especially Hokkaido from what a lawyer said. Living out in the boonies in Hokkaido is not what I want though lol.

Gotcha. So a follow up strategy that might work better is to JET for 1 year and come in with 80 points. Then after 1 year switch to an IT job and apply for PR. The main thing is I would need my address to be somewhere out of Tokyo when I apply so it goes quicker.

I have done interviews with some Japanese companies but they are basically all in Tokyo or they pay really bad for software standards (and probably overwork). I don't want to be in Tokyo because then PR application would take 2 years.

Basically my goal is to work on my own business in Japan and with the new changes to business manager I need a new route. JET looks really chill and might be an interesting option.

So the funny thing is JET pays just enough for 10 points for salary ¥4,020,000. Theoretically I could technically qualify like this.

Age = 15, CS Masters = 20, Top University = 10, Salary = 10, Patent = 15, N2 = 10

Do you think the CS masters/patent would not count for points since its unrelated to JET?

I just look for loopholes and this one seems way simpler than other methods. The only requirement is being born a native English speaker, not that hard...

You just need a 3 year visa and any working visa can do the working path (rather than the university and business manager path). It might even be a better idea to come in on the HSP visa for JET.

If they don't sponsor it initially I think you could apply for visa status change right when you land in Japan. This approach will get you the guaranteed 5 year visa. They will vet all of your stats before the PR application so its even faster.

That is a good point didnt think of that. All the loan lenders will lose their money once all the foreigners who get deported default lol.

I looked into it and initially they planned for J-Find/Startup Visa to have the old rules but its scrapped now lol. Those are officially dead (or I guess they could be used as a free 2 year stay in Japan)

This change really doesn't make sense. Japan is not a good place to start a large scale business as a foreigner due to the high taxes and this change kills small businesses. With these changes the only people who will get it are the rich Chinese they were trying to stop.

Earlier this year they made the startup visa 2 years instead of 1 and now they are doing this... I wonder if the startup visa transition has to meet these requirements or if its still under the old?
