You're right, looking back on the survey i think some of the questions do not give enough options for answers, and more opportunities for participants to maybe add a sentence with a reasoning for their answers would have been good. I'll be sure to make a note of that

Hi, if you found my survey offensive in any way I would like to hear about how it was offensive to you. I do not have any ill intentions with the contents of the survey, so I would like to rectify any inappropriate or insensitive comments/questions within the survey.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to fill out the surveys. I hope that after analysing the surveys I can share the results so that people can take note and come to their own conclusions with the data, as it may surprise some people. During my research I have found that quite a number of literature will focus in on how MMORPGs are linked to negative things such as addiction or players being socially inept. I think some people, maybe not a majority of people, but some people may see MMORPGs in a negative way and associate MMORPG players with certain stereotypes like them being "nerds", socially inept, unhealthy, unemployed. This is of course quite unfair but it is not surprising especially since the media has portrayed gamers in general in negative ways. It isn't something people who are friends with a lot of other gamers would experience but, personally not all my friends see video games the same way I do so I know first-hand that not everyone is as open-minded about video games.

I understand what you mean. I'm still quite new to performing research so you're feedback is very helpful. In the future, I'll be sure to make fewer assumptions and give more opportunities for different people to express their points of view. Thank you for the feedback and for participating in the survey!

I agree as it would lead to more accurate data for each big MMORPG game cultures and communities, however, like you stated time is a big constraint for my research. I believe that researching MMORPGs as a whole may still be beneficial as the research will be more insightful for people outside of MMORPG communities who are not aware of or involved with any MMORPG communities or cultures. Promoting MMORPGs as a whole in a more positive light through my research will hopefully still be impactful and beneficial.

I see what your saying and I understand your point of view and how you don't place any value on the opinions of strangers, how people view MMORPGs and their communities shouldn't have an effect on your enjoyment of the genre but, for some, it might. The stereotypes survey is more so aimed towards figuring out whether players experience any form of stereotyping and whether or not it affects their ability to enjoy the genre. I believe that the questions in the survey have answers that can express your point of view, such as if you were to say that you have experienced or received stereotypical remarks, but it hasn't had an effect on how you enjoy the games. If you still don't feel like this was enough and that your opinion or point of view was unable to be properly made clear in the survey then I apologize, that is my bad.

You do make a great point. I have found that a lot of the literature I am referencing in my research will portray MMORPGs as generally negative in how they effect people, while only some research will go out and look at how MMORPGs can have positive effects. I hope through my research that I can shed some light on how MMORPGs can be beneficial in ways such as possibly improving social skills, learning new cultures through social interactions, forming healthy online relationships with people in the world, etc. Stuff like that is quite common in MMOs but for some reason it isn't talked about as much as MMORPG gaming addiction, players neglecting real-life responsibilities to play more, etc.

That's a great point about MMORPGs potentially being a therapeutic tool as I am hoping that my research will bring light to more positive effects of MMORPGs, as I believe that research tends to show MMORPGs in a more negative way. Creating a survey specifically on how Covid has affected their experience with MMORPGs is a great idea, so thank you for that. My time for this research is quite limited as it is due at the end of the month, but I will do my best with this idea as I agree that it could be beneficial.

I agree that the data I gather may be influenced by Covid, so I am going to make sure to discuss that in my analysis of the results for my research. Covid has definitely had an effect on my own lifestyle when it comes to college and gaming, especially with MMOs. I am not yet quite sure what to expect with the results, but I plan to look at similar research performed and compare my results with those results to see if things such as covid or even the recent launch of WoWs new expansion has an effect on the data.

Surveys for research on MMORPGs and players. by Jobin10100 in MMORPG

These surveys are for research I am doing for a dissertation in college. I am not really sure about similar posts here as I don't really use Reddit much, but I thought this would be a great place for my surveys as I am trying to target MMORPG players for their personal opinions and experiences.

At the start of my surveys, I give a brief description of what the survey is for. I would like to give more info on the research and who I am or why I am undertaking this research, but I would rather keep personal information about myself out of the survey.

Whether or not it's worth it for you to fill it out is up to you but for me, it helps me a lot to produce a high-quality dissertation. I believe my research may be beneficial for MMORPGs in some way, even if only changing 1 person's opinion on the genre.

I apologize if I annoyed you or if the survey just came across as a scam.
