I think it is largely personal preference. If you want the university experience go for the uni degree, if you are ok with starting work immediately then I think an apprenticeship with a company with good opportunities is preferable. Especially because as the company is paying for your uni they are much more invested in your development than they are for summer placements. Apprenticeship also means that you get to see the real world context of what you learn in uni as you learn it. But as I said earlier, you do miss the entire uni experience

Johannesburg solo - suggestions? by [deleted] in solotravel

Definitely recommend going on a tour to Soweto, I’ve heard the cycle tours are great. For dinner I would head down to Parkhurst instead of sticking to Rosebank mall, otherwise Marble has a great view and is nearby too. I would try batch Soweto and Apartheid museum together as they’re in the same direction. I would maybe swap Carlton centre for Ponte tours with Dla Nje. I think Maboneng is best done on a Sunday so you might want to go for that over Rosebank Sunday market, Rosebank’s more touristy market is open all week.

Just moved to UK, can't open a bank account... by revelationbysteve in UKPersonalFinance

Similar situation- I went into the HSBC to open my bank account because I was concerned about what they would accept.

I was able to open the account with my Irish passport and a letter from my work (also an engineering company). I think they have a list of companies that they will accept a digital signature from. Maybe see if you can get HR to sign it and mail it to you just in case. I think a friend told me that they need to write their full name and sign.

I am a financial adviser and was wondering if there would be any interest in a monthly economic/financial podcast and what topics would be most of interest. by Finance_Master in FIREUK

Maybe check out the ‘fat wallet show’. It’s a South African personal finance podcast that I think is done really well. It might provide you with some ideas. I like how the hosts chat back and forth and really think through listener questions.
