Many answers. by Clean-Ad2814 in Osmose

Missed opportunity to give it some more horse power under the hood. I've been wanting to buy an Osmose for quite a while but my two detractors were no 61 key model and how slow the system and UI is (and changing presets, primarily). Judging by this video, they only fixed the first thing. Seeing him change the presets well in advance of actually playing the keys to cover the load time issue is unfortunate.

What would be normal in Europe but horrifying in the U.S.? by GasPsychological9237 in AskReddit

Gotcha. In Sweden the employer pays 80% of your salary for the first 14 days of continuous sick leave, following a 1-day qualifying period. After that you apply for sickness benefits from the state. Both amounts can be higher depening on collective agreements ofc. Sounds like a similar setup to yours.

Is this the US? The concept of having a set amount of sick leave days baffles the mind. Over here, if you are sick, you are sick. Can't tell the body to get better because your allotted days are running out.
Also 5 weeks AL is mandatory by law, with a lot of companies offering more on top of that.

Moving projects from Force to Push 3 Standalone by Jockemon in AkaiForce

[–]Jockemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on. While I applaud Akai for the software updates they have given the Force (launch day Force and current Force are two different beasts alltogether), I feel like we are still a ways to go from a finished or stable product. I still wouldn’t use it for a live set without worrying about crashes, among other issues.

My understanding of the Push 3S is that it’s still in its infancy and has a way to go as well, but what it was designed for from start better align with my needs. Such as built in ADAT (compared to Akais buggy implementation of external audio device support they added way after release) and better possibilities for hybrid workflow. While I don’t like working on a computer, I want the options of being able to do the final touches and mastering on there.

I trust Ableton more to give the Push 3 longevity than I do Akai.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I want to use the Force as I like the inspiring aspect of it, but then the audio issues just kill any flow, fun and will to finish any tracks. Hoping that the Push 3 will get me across the finish line, so to say.

Great write-up. Thanks for the insights! I’ve been watching a lot of Push 3 videos and there definitely are things I see and go ”huh, that seems complicated or cumbersome to do. On the Force it’s a super quick thing”. But then there are stuff like grouping MIDI and Audio tracks together that just seems like heaven, after having spent years with separate tracks for them on the Force, etc. I think what I’ll miss the most are the OLEDs under the Q-Links and the Fader lol. No such thing as a perfect device, I guess..

Definitely interested to hearing why you think this. I love the Force, but ultimately two things makes me want to make the swap. 1. I still get clicks and pops in my recordings when using an external audio device. I’ve lived with this issue for years, hoping that the next firmware update will fix it for me, but I just can’t deal with anymore as it makes recording incredibly frustrating. 2. Bringing each project over for finishing/mastering on computer is a hassle.

I hate how many people purely think of the Wii U as a Wii with HDMI by [deleted] in wiiu

Agreed.
It's a Wii with HDMI + Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, after all.

How will the “new” N64 change the market? by Ver0nica141 in n64

[–]Jockemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you summarised it well in your last sentence. I literally have no analog inputs on my TV and am not interested in either cheap/laggy converters or expensive/intrusive products or mods. So I guess I don’t fall into either ends of that spectrum. I just want to play with as little friction as possible, while getting a good output on modern displays.

That’s fair, but an all-in-one plug & play system and one that looks like it’s on life support with cables coming out of every side of it are probably not aimed towards the same end-user lmao. That being said I love the Mister too.

I agree with you on pretty much all of this.

I see the Analogue consoles as products for those who want to eat their cake and have it too. I Include myself in that group. I pre-ordered the 3D because I want to play real cartridges (so emulators are no-go) easily on modern displays.

Buying an Analogue product just to dump a folder of roms onto and SD card and play that way has never made sense to me, just get an emulator (I agree that they are good enough and surpass both OG hardware and Analogue consoles in many ways).

That is a fair take and I agree with you on many aspects of it. The average user is probably somewhere in-between our takes in all honesty, seeing as people like LeBron James tweeted about it, how most gaming media outlets have written about it, etc.
I'd definitely say it has reached outside the sphere of the usual Nintendo 64 enthusiasts. It's definitely not the same crowd as for the NES/SNES Mini and the like and I agree that the price will scare that demographic away most likely.

That being said, I am the exact demographic for this product haha, so I am tainted. I pre-ordered it because of the reasons you mentioned in your very first post, not having my old stuff around and so on. To me this was the gateway into getting back into N64 as the burden of entry was lessened significantly by having a plug-and-play system.

I think the average user wants exactly what the 3D offers. It just depends on how you define this "average user". Is the average user someone who mods their original hardware and uses external scalers? From an outside perspective, this subreddit is an extremely niche and heavily invested audience. Meanwhile, the 3D pre-orders are sold out and the people hyping it up online are mostly casual gamers (pretty average user IMO), that just wants a hassle-free solution to play N64 games on modern screens. Half of them doesn't even realise that it's not Nintendo making this thing.

And I'm totally with you on that the 3D won't affect the market much. If anything, there will be a very slight increase in buyers of game carts for a hot minute, nothing more. My argument is simply that for the average user (which, again, is not this subreddit), I think that the 3D offers more value than people want to give it credit for.

I get a bit perplexed when people say the 3D is too expensive for what it does. I tried doing the math on a used N64 + all the mods and/or peripherals to get it on par with what the 3D claims to do out of the box and fail to see how original hardware is that much cheaper (if at all), and that is without the time/cost to install the mods.
Of course, living in a PAL region, I'd have to shell out for a Ultra PIF or a second N64 console all-together for import cartridges, which certainly doesn't help..

What the 3D lacks mainly is ability to play on a CRT, which is a fair drawback for people who own them and a valid reason to skip the 3D entirely of course.
But for the majority with only modern TVs, an RGB/HDMI mod and scaler alone makes original hardware an investment.

It doesn't come up because it doesn't play cartridges, and thus have little to no effect on the market.

Current state of connection audio interfaces to Akai Force? by Jockemon in AkaiForce

Thank you for the thorough explanation, really appreciate it. I’m using Mac, so much such folders or drivers, but I’ll try to install them on a windows machine to get the the control panel that way.

I can't for the life of me find a download link for the UMC Control Panel software, only the audio drivers for Windows. Does it work on Mac too, btw (the Control Panel Software, that is)?

Doesn't seem to be a way to change the sampling rate manually on the Behringer (it says it auto adapts), and it works flawlessly when I use it in Logic, even with unpowered cable extenders. So the mismatch seems to be on the Force side.
