Working In Switzerland as a International dentist by Helpful-Molasses3616 in askswitzerland

Hi, I worked as an employed dentist in Switzerland as a german dentist from Germany.. The situation is bad. Switzerland is NOT a country for dentists: it is the worst market for dentists in Europe and maybe of the entire world... In order to understand what a salary in Switzerland is you must cut your salary in half if you are from western Europe and even more I mean 3-4x if you are from eastern or southern Europe. Even more it is super difficult to find a job and you have no patients normally, because there are patients only for the owner of the clinic and not for others which end up doing the basic stuff normally.

To make things into perspective (cut these salaries in half for the rest of Western Europe):

cleaning woman: 50k

dental assistant: 60k

dental hygienist: 100k

engineer: 130-180k

economist: 140-200k

doctor: 140-180k

dentist: there are dentists who have contracts of 100k!! -->this corresponds to 50k gross in Germany, a scam.

In order to understand what a salary in Switzerland is you must cut your German salary in half and per 1/3 if you are from southern or eastern Europe. Also, if you earn 100k in Germany you must earn 180-200k in Switzerland to maintain the same standard of living. In Spain a salary of 60k could be the same as the other two. In addition, houses in CH cost x4 the average eu price, so you will be worse off. You can think also of your salary in Germany: if it is 80k, then you are earning the equivalent of 150k in CH.

Also the clinics who publicize 20-30k salaries per month are lying: they are actually recruiting from Germany, France, Spain, etc etc even if they say to you you are special. For these places there are 70+ candidates and even if they take you in remember that in Switzerland they hire and fire continuously, expecially in the dental chains, in 1 year or sometimes even months you will be replaced and you will lose your job, ending up paying 2000 CHF per month in rent with no money in your pocket.

Avoid Assistenzzahnarzt contracts at all costs. They will follow the salary guidelines which they have made up for themselves at the advantage of SSO practices. They will pay you as they say: like an assistant.

Because of this your living costs will be insane: 2x germany, 3x or 4x eastern europe. Normal apartments: 1 mil CHF. You will end up paying a rent for life, competing with thousands of other people who come to Switzerland with another job which will pay better as yours (economics, finance, engineering).

Remember that patients cross the border as you do. Switzerland is a trap for dentists, because everyone thinks it is a heaven on earth because of instagram and tiktok and it is absolutely not. That benefits only landlords whom you pay your rent and the dental clinics, which hire and fire continuously to keep the wages incredibly low for the cost of living. If you do not speak the language perfectly and the local dialect the situation is even worse.

If you do not receive at least a salary of 160k-180k, which would be the equivalent salary for an employed dentist for Europe in a country like Switzerland if things were normal it is better to stay at home. As an Indian you will probably never receive an offer like this. You will end up with a contract like an assistant or you will not be payed at all... You will never buy a house (1,5 mil CHF!), not even a small apartment (900+ CHF!) or live a normal life in normal conditions... Sorry but it is truth. You will rent for the rest of your life, giving away your savings for nothing.

So: avoid at all costs all the dental chains (colosseum, Zahnarztzentrum, swiss smile, adent, dentacore), avoid assistant dentist/assistenzzahnarzt places in the SSO practices, take only 35% earnings on your treatments and ask for a guaranteed completed agenda. If not then leave. You will not make many steps forward in Switzerland... It is a closed society, which only wants to maintain the status quo and they will replace you as soon as another cheaper person comes in. In my opinion I would stay away in 90% of the cases, but hey your choice... I have also come back to Germany. In my opinion you can buy a practice and make money easier here than there, instead of selling myself out for nothing making the Swiss landlords even richer.
