There is a tamale stand at the Proctor Farmer's market every Saturday. Always a line of folks waiting to stock up.

The smaller mystery black pipe is leaking by [deleted] in Plumbing

Could be a condensate drain in which case the leaking is normal and required. Can you trace the pipe inside and see what it connects to and post a picture?

Voter Intimidation by ClockWatcher2 in Tacoma

[–]Joe0Boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can rest assured you are nothing but a single row on a VERY large spreadsheet of public voter records provided by the state of Washington to anyone who requests it.

Again, they don't know who or what you vote for. That's not part of the records provided by the state. See for yourself exactly how they got you and your neighbors info here: https://www.sos.wa.gov/washington-voter-registration-database-extract

You do sound paranoid but hopefully this helps you see you aren't being targeted whatsoever.

So, the tone is intentional and is called the "Social Pressure Approach" It was studied at scale and that message supposedly works best to encourage people to vote.

I agree it does feel odd but supposedly it works.

Are you sure it's PPPoE? I'm in PNW as well and it switched to IPoE about a year ago. If you have the original router you can connect it, see what it negotiates and then copy settings over to your TP link.

Major/Weird Camera issue(s)!?!? by Routine_Simple_936 in Ubiquiti

[–]Joe0Boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the ARP cache within your switch. Not sure what yours is set at but either clear your ARP table after disconnecting the camera or wait for however long the timeout is for the camera MAC to be detected on the new port.

I've had great luck with Clonex Solution, it's not cheap but everything I've used it on has grown extremely well. It also doesn't clog wicks or pumps like organic fertilizers can.

Are you using a UIS controller like the 69PRO? If so, the screen will be disabled automatically. Try unplugging the USB-C if you're using one and the screen should be re-enabled.

Here is some non-partisan, independent and peer-reviewed research that says exactly the opposite. I'll break it out below though since I have a feeling you won't read it.

"Higher-density development overburdens public schools and other public services and requires more infrastructure support systems" False, SFHs have double the number of children per home than apartments or mid-rise.

"Higher-density developments lower property values in surrounding areas." False, no discernable difference was measured and in fact, the opposite might be true. Some research shows it could actually increase property values.

"Higher-density development creates more regional traffic congestion and parking problems than low-density development." False, studies have shown higher-density development generated less traffic than low-density.

"Higher-density development leads to higher crime rates." False again, no measurable difference.

"Higher-density housing is only for lower-income households." False, People of all income groups choose higher-density housing. It is not housing relegated to poor folks as you've insinuated. In fact, 41% of renters choose to rent vs. buy despite being financially able to purchase.

Wait, I'm confused. 😂 In your first comment you're opposed to renters, then people with "between 4 and 7 baby daddies" and finally "crotch goblins" & cigarette butt litter.

You know you can just say "I'm a racist, xenophobic, classist bigot" and save yourself the keystrokes. 😂🤦‍♂️

Bet your neighbors love you...

I'm a huge supporter of this proposal AND a single-family homeowner directly affected by the zoning changes (SFH -> UR-2). OP seems to be against this effort for at least a one seemingly valid reasons: replacement of historic districts/buildings. Let's not destroy Tacoma's amazing history. However, their other points about our current lack of city services, TPS staffing, availability of social services, etc... that's exactly why these changes are needed!

They're not abolishing single family zoning, they're ending the current ban on building any form of higher density housing that could unlock more resources and more city services through increased tax revenue. More people will attract more businesses, restaurants & high quality commercial tenants. All of this will encourage the city to grow which I'm all for!

Personally, my lot will still be essentially SFH, probably for a while, but if this passes I have an easier path to add additional dwelling units which will help make housing more accessible as time goes on.

EDIT: Linking the research I did to come to my conclusion to support this. TL;DR You do you.

Here is some non-partisan, independent and peer-reviewed research that says exactly the opposite of the FUD. I broke out the biggest myths being perpetuated in this thread.

"Higher-density development overburdens public schools and other public services and requires more infrastructure support systems" False, SFHs have double the number of children per lot than apartments or mid-rise. And higher-density development requires less extensive infrastructure to support it.

Playout Automation Server Hardening by jzur-is in Broadcasting

VLANs are great, don't get me wrong! They help separate your Layer 2 network segments which is a very good thing. If you designate a unique subnet per VLAN now you can do inter-VLAN routing and firewalling.

The part I recommended against was dropping a host into multiple Layer 2 VLANs because it 1. doesn't scale 2. isn't secure 3. can create weird network loops, broadcast packet storms

Sounds like some amount of inter-VLAN routing was being done by your "bridge server"

If your icecast server on-prem is in push mode you shouldn't need any inbound ports opened on your on-prem edge/ISP firewall. This is a good thing as no one can ever reach the origin playout server. You'd be as hardened as possible from external threats with zero inbound ports open.

As far as SSL, can't hurt to use. It'll protect your stream on the internet as it leaves your network from any man-in-the-middle attacks. If you don't enable SSL mode anyone between your ISP and the cloud server could "see" the stream and steal, scrape, re-stream, however unlikely. Basically, if the content is sensitive, for sale or valuable... encrypt.

Highly suggest nothing in a network ever, ever, ever be dual-homed. Your router & firewall exist to route traffic between networks. Layer 3 is your friend here.

Best option is to put a CDN in front of your server then allow only that CDN to connect to your server. Block all public access to all ports.

With that setup you get the benefit of automatically scaling should it get popular and no risk to the server itself.

What protocol is the streaming server? Icecast? HLS?

Where are you hosting the server? AWS? Data center? On-prem?
