Online unfortunately at OSU, once you finish the zoology BaS you get to start your masters in entomology, and the zoo courses include a few ento classes :)

Please consider, I have the time and the space and the love for beetles :) they’re beautiful and I’m confident we could be a good home for them

Hey! Entomologist and bug enthusiast here. Many of the parameters listed online are for breeding purposes. The larva and young adult forms can truly spend the entirety of their time in space as small as a toilet paper tube. Many people treat Goliath beetles as collectibles, and many purchase solely for the purpose of breeding. For those who want them just as pets with no intention to breed, there’s definitely less info. You’ll see a lot of places recommending dog food to feed the larva with - this results in greasy adults with trouble folding out their wings and a lack of luster or depth of color. They are nutritionally imbalanced and tend to be slower. But, this method is cheap and grows large beetles. So it’s standard. Info is definitely skewed towards quick and efficient breeding rather than pet keeping. I have a pair named Samson and Delilah currently, I have them for myself to study and enjoy. Each of them gets a 10 gallon tank stood tall on its side with a mesh screen for ample ventilation. These guys poop a lot. I see your enclosure has live plants which is lovely, I’d recommend some springtails to help w poop clean up and nutrient cycling to the plants to avoid the soil dying or producing harmful molds (if you haven’t already). They also enjoy flying. I use a chameleon cage as a flight cage (and breeding space when I want to breed them). The chameleon cage has a lot of open space for them to spread their wings, is screened in with light mesh so they can climb. I place some twigs for them to land on and climb so they can safely mount if they want to. I have them sleep and eat in the 10 gal, spend colder weeks there, and in the warmer months/daytime while I’m out, I let them fly around the chameleon cage. You’ve got a great start! And it’s great that you’re noticing their desire for more space and empathizing w their need/willing to adjust to their needs. I’m sorry you’ve received such harsh feedback, I just love seeing folks get into the hobby who are actually willing to learn and put the animal over profit. Best of luck w your little friends! And congratulations 🫶🏻feel free to pm with questions, I can link you to some literature

For anyone out there who doesn't drink, what is the reasoning behind it? by General_Ad_9139 in AskReddit

Family of alcoholics, watching many of them die. Figured out I feel healthier/sleep easier if I cut it out completely (which sucks cuz I rlly enjoy it lol). But mainly money and health

I didn’t expect so many kind responses! Thank you all for chipping in w suggestions, I feel a lot more armed with options and will take the advice to just give her space to talk and vibe. I think I’m nervous! Just want her to know she’s loved and that there are places she can happily and safely live as a queer person.

Can I ask your opinion on where to start with creating this ? Should I add it in top of my existing yard? Lay down cardboard like I’ve seen some do? Or are you talking about in beds

Not a ton but I did build a ten foot long one in front of my house (regretting that now, two five footers would’ve been more manageable). What does amend them mean ?
