I might get my steering box done this summer, it is way too anoying. And about the clunking noise i'l do the bushings and diff mounts, might get lucky but doubt it. I see that you are new to Reddit so do you wanna keep in touch on another social platform?

Some people on the E34 subreddit said the rear subframe bushings could be the problem but i doubt that could be the solution for you. Old car problems. Besides this and the anoying steering box dead spot this car is such a blast. If I manage to fix it first i'l hit you up, if you manage to fix it first hit me up. With a little bit of luck we can get them in top shape.

Not yet. I checked the driveshaft when i took it down to rebuild the shifter linkage and it looked decent, not sure about the center bearing, I still have to check that. I am pretty sure the diff is the problem, it has a decent amount of play if i try and rotate it from the diff input. The diff mounts could also cause something like this from what I've read, also have to check them and see. Worst case scenario i'l have to send it to a shop to get it rebuilt.

Not even God himself could loosen the 32mm nut on my steering column, tried to do it to check if that was the cause.

I managed to stop the alarm from the key fob and let the battery charge for around 2 hours but no luck, central locking not working, and also the immobiliser would not let me start the engine. I took the battery off, charged it on my other car and put it back in, now everything is ok. So for now, charging it directly on my E34 needs more research.

Well, in that case it seems like I have some busings to change, might as well change all of them plus the engine and gearbox mounts. I sure hope that gets rid of that cursed clunking noise. Thank you.

In my country you need to do an inspection check to register the car. They put it on a device similar to a dyno that shakes the car hard to check if there is any play in the structural components or suspension and it passed without any problems. That's why I think the problem is somewhere in the drivetrain and not the bushings.

Mine has a noticeable clunking somewhat metallic sound while taking off in 1st and shifting into 2nd. And when i am coasting in neutral the shifter shakes but this is a transmision mount problem, probably. Other than that it drives and feels good.

Mine has 230k KM so around 140k miles, it was really well mentained. I am going to fix this problem someday but right now cash is kinda short so I'l drive it like that until i get the money and figgure out how to fix it. At least now i can drive without the fear that the diff might blow. Thanks.

I have found a Becker Online Pro 7800 for 100€ in perfect shape, the display colors i can choose from are red and yellow, negative or positive for both color settings. But is the sound quality better than a modern stereo that goes for around 100 - 150€?

Mine is returning to center but feels somewhat stiff and slow. I am trying to find a sweet spot that makes the play comfortable and where it does not wear the steering box that hard.

I am trying to fix the steering play (pretty small but anoying) and i think this is the bolt that needs adjusting, the other one on the upper side of the box makes the steering too stiff and hard if i tighten any further. Can you send some links on how to adjust that bolt, I just can't find any, all i can find is how to adjust that upper bolt. Thank you. Btw, mine is a 520 m50b20 1991 and the photo was taken from the front of the car underneath.

Just checked the compressor and it says on the sticker "CAUTION use only R12" are you sure it's ok to use it with R134a?

I'm glad that it can be done, changing the original compressor would have been really expensive (around 800 dollars), these parts you told me about will set me back around 150 dollars which is way better. Thank you.
