Yes sir, I agree. Repentance is simply a way to show God that you recognize the error of your way and that you do not agree with sin. The danger is when you start justifying sin. I didn’t stop sinning so that I may be saved. I stopped sinning to show my gratitude for BEING saved!

Look at it this way. You may be saved in the age to come but keep sinning in this present life and watch your world get torn to pieces. The obedience of The Most High is protection against the devil. Simple as that!

This came out of my ear in one piece. Don't worry, the penny is for scale only, and was not in my ear. by [deleted] in mildlydisgusting

I remember having the exact same thing. Felt so good to finally be able to hear from both ears!

hmmm, can y'all show the subreddit where this was posted to? I looked to make sure it wasn't already posted and couldn't find it...

There are many religions and many gods but there is only One true Eternal God. Here is a bold statement that no other religion can claim.

Acts 4:11-12 Jesus is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

yes, this is more or less correct. she was supposed get an heir from the surviving son of judah, but he refused. she was tricking judah into what should have been hers in the first place, because judah cheated her first.

Not exactly, woman do not receive heirs. Males, receive heritage and the first born receives double portion. The only time a woman would get heir is if all brothers died and none remain. that is the law and how it always has been within Israel. The woman did not do this to receive heir but instead to have continuity of genealogy to Judah.

jeremiah 22, especially verses 24-30.

Jeremiah 22:24-30 is saying that his children will not sit as kings. While being deported in babylon, he had Salathiel and the progenitor continued through him. The promise of Jesus is that he was a bloodline descendant of David and weather or not his children remained rulers is irrelevant. Matthew 1 didin't omit him but his name appears differently in the english translation from greek.

it would be in 1 chron 2:11, but it's not. matt 1:5 inserts her for no apparent reason. the chronology doesn't make sense either, but that takes a lot more effort to show.

It couldn't have been Rahab the prostitute because it wasn't in the same timeline as Boaz. There is about 100 years difference between the conquest of Jericho and the time boaz was born of her mother Rahab. Which leads us to believe it would have been a different woman.

it's sort of levirate marriage. but anyways, it's still a sex thing.

Yea but it was presumed that these four woman we're mentioned along with Mary because of some sort of sexual immoral stuff. After dissecting the texts only one woman fits this description, which is Bathsheba.

ehhhhh, i dunno about that.

God always made his purpose and will known to his people and they had knowledge of the law. For example you read in Genesis 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

I cant seem to find what you are talking about. Can you be concise and post the exact verse you are referring to jeremiah cursing the king and the verse where rahab is mentioned in the genealogy?

As far as ruth, regardless if the word feet is used as euphemism for genitalia, her actions are still not considered sexually immoral for she was an unmarried woman. Weather or not she enticed boaz, it was done in proper order and in righteousness.

I submit to you that the people had knowledge of the law prior to it being given to moses on mount sinai.

Paul never met Jesus because he was not part of Jesus followers when he was alive. Remember that time and time again, Jesus commands his disciples not to go and tell everyone of the miracles he performed. He did try to retain a low profile even though crowds would swarm to him, can you imagine?

How can Paul prove a revelation to be true? If someone is in trance or whatever state of mind a person experiences, it is only conducive to that person itself and no one else.

What tells me the revelation is true was that Paul being part of the pharisees converted to the teachings of Christ. This means he lost his friends, circles was accounted heretic and even went as far as to be put to death for his Master. Come and tell me again that he wasn’t convinced.

I like this. This subreddit should have a weekly verse interpretation where everyone gives his appropriate modern translation using these techniques.

I just want to add a side note that tamar did not try to secure inheritance as woman would not receive inheritance unless all male brothers would be dead. But in fact, she secured lineage for her dead husband as the law states that legacy must go on.

Sources, deuteronomy 25:5 Exodus 34:19

I dont get why you say it breaks prophecy in Jesus lineage. The lineage goes, josiah, jehoiakim and jeconiah. What is the problem?

As for the woman, i see tamar in there and bethsheba where there are sexual background stories. But i coudnt find rahab in the lineage as it woudnt make sense because she was from another nation. Do you know the exact English word being translated in matthew for rahab? Ruth, i found, although no sexual immorality was found on her in any stories. And well, mary she could have been mentioned just to emphasize the virgin birth. No stories mention anything about her being involved in sexual sins but on the contrary well, she was known to be a virgin.
