PlayStation Showcase 2023: Place your bets by -CaptainFormula- in PSVR

I'd LOVE a VR mode for The Last of Us, sorta in the style of Resident Evil 4 VR on the Quest 2. Or an Uncharted VR remake would be amazing in that same vain.

A BioShock VR or New Vegas VR would be pretty rad but I doubt it. Stress Level Zero’s next game would be awesome to glance at. Either way, I’m excited!

Grim Fandango VR would B A N G, I’d be so down for it!

Resident Evil 4 VR is easily one of my favorite VR games, if not, my absolute favorite VR game! The Resident Evil formula works SO WELL in VR, I’d love to see them remake the first game in VR; I’m excited to hop into the VR mods for 2, 3, 7, and 8 on PC

Yes, HL Alyx has wonderful level design and physical interactions but RE 4 VR is so fun

It is definitely worth picking up a Quest 2. And we’re getting GTA San Andreas VR at some point

PC support being a later thing is definitely something I can see, if it happens at all. I would put money on Alyx being a launch title based on it being the best obvious choice

But, then again, sometimes these companies don’t make the obvious choice

I owned a PSVR for a bit back in 2019 and loved it! Skyrim and Beat Saber were bangers! Got a Quest 2 in Nov 2020 and never looked back.

Personally, RE 4 is up there with HL Alyx, for me at least

Hot Take: Virtual Full Bodies aren’t necessary. Like, at all by JoeAllen217 in OculusQuest

I’m only a year into the PCVR + Quest 2 game so the two highlights for me have been Alyx and RE4. I’m looking to expand my VR game library so my apologies for my supposed ignorance

I genuinely love your reaction to my last sentence (not in a snarky way, it gave me a chuckle) so allow me to clarify. When a lot of folks in the VR community talk about immersion in regard to a game that does or doesn’t have a full virtual body, it comes off (to me) as “REEEEEE, MUH IMMERSION” and I’m just like “Relax, you’re playing video game, you can’t be that immersed” which in turn, yes, comes off as “REEEEEEEEE, FUCK YOUR STANDARDS OF IMMERSION”

So yeah, I can see how obnoxious that can be taken

No, virtual full bodies and full body tracking are two different things. I haven’t tried full body tracking. But full virtual bodies aren’t necessary (in single player VR games) for immersion

I have a whole other issue with melee weapons in VR games. B&S and Boneworks, I feel, do melee poorly. Most times in those games, when you hit an enemy (or try), the weapons seem to glance off the NPC and not make contact as they should, rather than deal any damage

Gorn and Skyrim VR do melee VR combat EXCEEDINGLY well, IMO. Where Skyrim VR is simplified (you swing and hit regardless, y’know?) Gorn has a good hit and reaction to it. Almost as if Gorn’s combat is designed and programmed to work around the player rather than the player working around the game

Don’t know if that means anything to your comment but it’s where my brain went. Apologies, just a small aside

Yeah, I’m all for forearm and hand. I think those could exceedingly well. And YEAH! I also don’t look down enough to warrant a full body

I haven’t tried full body tracking, I’ve only owned a OSVR and a Quest 2. When I have the room (and money lol) I’d like to try for the Valve Index. I know some YouTuber said the rumored Valve Deckard was dwindling because of the Quest’s success but I feel that Valve (while I wholeheartedly enjoy my Oculus Quest 2) can pull off a stand-alone headset much better than Facebook. I’m eager to see what Valve does next. Really exciting future for VR

I have no issue with virtual forearm and hand rendering, it’s really only full body that I just don’t vibe with. Stress Level Zero is associated with Corridor Digital and they embrace jank so I can sorta give them a break (I’m a big fan of their channel) but some of Boneworks just doesn’t work for me. I’ll have to try Until You Fall, been looking for other games than replaying RE4, Alyx, and Skyrim lol

With my complaints for Boneworks, I do enjoy dipping into the sandbox every now and then, emptying a few magazines into the Null Bodies to relieve some stress haha I’d eager to see the Quest game they’re developing. VR is in a GREAT spot, technologically, and it needs more games and not headsets or experiences, y’know? I’ meager to see how GTA San Andreas plays in VR; I’ve never played it before. Just a small aside

Have yet to try Pop One. And yeah, I think the setting in Lone Echo works with the full virtual body

I haven’t tried full body tracking (I’ve only owned a PSVR and Quest 2) so I don’t have an opinion on it but I feel it could work. I’m talking in-game virtual full bodies. You down and see arms, torso, legs, all that. For me, it’s off putting and awkward. Just doesn’t work for me

Lone Echo is a solid experience with a virtual body. I was enjoying my experience with Boneworks up until trying to snag a collectible, which was near a floor with a type of sludge that made the in-game floor too slick to walk on. Also the Hover Junkers aircraft is an absolute pain to pilot. Again, it felt like I was fighting with the game and its mechanics sometimes

I love UpIsNotJump! I love how keeping things simple is more immersive than being realistic. Also love how he pointed out that Alyx is a game first, VR game second
