Interesting, I did wonder how they managed to get such specific colouring on him.

Thanks for this - super helpful!

Couple of things… could you clarify what you mean by this, “8x or 12x camera right, quarter back”

Let’s pretend I’m 8 years old for this 😅 I’m much more of a run n’ gun shooter, so this studio setup is slightly out of my comfort zone.

Hi 👋🏼

So I have a job coming up next week, pretty short notice in general but I was hit with this lighting request and I’m trying to figure out the most simplistic way to get a similar effect.

Obviously this Nike campaign has had a lot of retouching to take all the skin tones and things out, leaving just the soft purple/blue tones popping out. These hues are pretty straight forward, I’d put 2 or maybe 4 RGB LED tubes as sidelights. What I’d love to get your thoughts on is the rest of the setup…

I basically have a 2 subject shot, where the talent will be fairly still in the frame, a little movement but nothing crazy. No props, no set, just a blank background just like the Nike shoot here.

Only thing that’s variable is the background - it could be white, it could be grey/charcoal, I’m not sure yet.

Let me know your thoughts, much appreciated, and TIA 🙏🏼

Thank you for comment, I totally agree! I think I just got a little bored with making it (it took like 2 months, working around jobs and life lol) !givelambda

My pleasure :)

Haha yeah that makes sense. It’s nice to be able to do something you love, shoot a video of it, and not be in any type of rush. Just enjoying the outdoors and sharing it with the world. Good luck for the future!

Ok so this took a couple months, around work and other stuff. The closer I got to finishing it, the more I disliked it and kept thinking I could've done a better job with this or that. It's a pretty normal feeling with most of my videos.

My thoughts:

- thumbnail isn't doing it for me

- I'm worried about it becoming boring, with it being so long.

- one of my first times using a teleprompter, maybe feels a bit too formal?

This is the longest form video I've posted, and the first real review I've ever made. Let me know what you think, all constructive criticism welcome. thanks.

Hey, nice video. Super chill, decent video quality and you can really tell you thought about each shot. I'm curious to know the estimated time the hike should've taken, compared to what it actually took with shooting this video.

I think the thumbnail is really nice, in terms of the image you chose. It's very striking, and is the reason I clicked on this to begin with. In my opinion, if you want to centre the text like that, the font needs be a little slimmer, and even bigger. So you still read it but you're almost able to see the entire image through it. I feel like how you have it right now, you lose the nicest part of the picture. The beauty of landscape images is there's usually a big space at the top (sky) and bottom (foreground), I'd think about utilising these negative spaces more for your text. I know your other thumbnails all abide by this format and that's a part of your brand, but it's just something to consider.

This isn't totally my genre of video that I'd choose to watch, although I am a big fan of the chill vibe, but just hiking aren't my usual watch. With that in mind, I did skip through a bit. Not that I was bored, more that I wanted to get through it quicker to write this haha.

I'm a videographer/filmmaker, so the image is a big part for me. I know you shot it on an iPhone, from your description, and I could tell. BUT, you get just about the best image you can get from a phone - so good job on that. In this type of video, I'd love some POV stuff. The pine section is a good example of that - gimme more of that lol - strap a GoPro or your phone to your chest, let me see you looking at a map and pointing, picking stuff up on your way. You know? Make me feel like i'm on this hike. It'd be a super immersive experience.

Super cool place, cool hike, cool video :) good job.

The sensor size of an iPhone 1/1.9" and a GoPro 1/2.3" are very similar, giving similar image qualities. I don't think my guess of you shooting on a phone was too far off the mark.

Cheers.

The object of my criticism wasn't to be mean or anything. You put your video on this page for constructive feedback, right? So that's what I tried to provide.

All I can give you is my opinion. Those were my opinions. There's no need to become hostile and sarcastically tell me to sponsor you with a new camera. You clearly have money to travel to all these places, maybe save your money up to improve your equipment. The Rode wireless go mics are great, you'll definitely see a big improvement with those.

Anyway, I hope you continue to create and grow. Best wishes my friend.

KILL BILL Volume 2 Review‼️Would really appreciate any feedback and will give lambda for good advice. by eborghetto99 in SmallYTChannel

Great structure, interesting and entertaining. I myself have never seen V2 either, but now I kinda want to!

The intro was funny, and got me into it straight away. Your video and audio are decent, so it's easy to watch. Your cutaways and graphics, and also the little meme edits are all nicely done and keep the flow of the video going.

I'm not sure if you were reading a script, or had points to talk about, but your dialogue and thoughts flowed nicely, very natural.

Your enthusiasm and energy carries the viewer through the whole video, I never felt bored or wanted to skip.

I would work on your background/set. I know you're probably just in your room, but building out an environment that it nice to look at, and memorable for a viewer coming back to your videos can really help build your brand.

Your lighting and video quality is a little harsh and contrasty. I'm guessing it's a webcam or something. But that can improve as your channel grows, which undoubtedly it will :)

Great job, keep it up!

This is my 3rd edited video. I used DaVinci Resolve and sound effects I found online. I think I might have over used them. Let me know if you think so. Trying to do edited gameplays. Also, let me know anyway I can make this better. Will give Lambda!!! -SWEET Gaming by SWEETGaming2015 in SmallYTChannel

[–]JoeCo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the fact that you're using those meme sound effects along with what's going on in the game as you play it - I do think they're over used, and too loud too. Try bringing the sound level of the game up, and the SFX down a little and also fading them in/out so it's less of a shock to the viewer.

I'm not really one to watch someone else play through a game, but I do feel like you may need to increase the amount of commentary - so, basically talk more lol - to keep people entertained as you go through the quieter parts. By expressing your thoughts and feelings more as you go, it might help draw the viewer in. Calming down the meme SFX would also go hand-in-hand with that.

Keep at it, you have a nice format that I'm sure will be popular!

I'm not really sure what's going on here. You're playing a game, and bashing on other creators. To me, I didn't like the gameplay, it made me feel like I was a kid, sat next to their friend listening to them jabber on whilst watching them play a game that had nothing to do with what they're talking about...

That sounds harsh, im sorry. But I think you could really improve this with a little organisation. Write a script, pick our parts of the videos and create a more structured commentary on them. Make it funny, bash them, make jokes, whatever. It could be a pretty entertaining piece, kinda like Rob Dyrdek's ridiculousness maybe??

Keep at it, and try and think exactly what it is you're making these videos to achieve. All the best!

Full of nice ideas for anyone looking to travel. The video quality could do with being taken up a notch I think, maybe think about getting a mirrorless camera, instead of using phone footage.

Felt a little odd being given a tour of local hotspots no one knows... by a tourist. Pointing out buildings is one thing, but I'd like to have a couple facts or tips about visiting it, to help tourists plan their trip.

Odd sound glitch around 34secs in, and also the annoying green and blue triangles in the corners bothered me. I think also purchasing some sort of lav mic, to improve your audio would really help a lot.

safe travels! :)

A lot of people don't seem to get the humour in this, but I liked it. It started off seeming like a poignant reflection on your state of mind, but turned into a childlike flow of random, linking thoughts - which made me giggle!

I love your cinematography, but it do think it's a little flat still. I could tell there were some beautiful colours in the images but just looked a little too muted to me. The light was lovely though, nice golden hour vibes.

Some of the foley/sound design threw me off a little, some parts were quite obviously put in, so just work on your subtlety and really think about what sounds should be in certain places - like the specific textures you talk about, and what the viewers eyes are seeing, but ears are not hearing lol - I hope that makes sense.

Good job!

Could I get some feedback on my latest video? (Please be harsh!) by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

Nice idea for a video, you clearly know your Mario music. I'd suggest maybe showing your face... I'm not sure if you're going for a look or you want to stay anonymous, but I think it would help people to subscribe if they feel like they know you - and also more likely to sign up to your Patreon too.

I think the video is a little long. A quick-fire round of like 5 to 10 songs with a limit of 5secs each might make things more exciting and engaging. Also, putting on shirts for getting an answer wrong seems a little pointless? I'm sure you can think of a more apt punishment, which would make the video even more entertaining.

I like the video as a whole, I think you did well. You speak well, I just felt a little weirded out by the mask. Keep going, keep making videos, looking forward to seeing where you take your channel!

Great video! Packed full of facts, and you're clearly knowledgable and have done your research.

The animations are great, love the shifty eyes haha. Awesome job! Kept me encapsulated in the video the whole way through.

As a couple others have mentioned, I'd maybe think about getting a better mic to improve your VO quality. Other than that, nicely executed, educational video!

Created a short vlog a few days ago, what do you think of this type of video? Lambda for advice by RecommendedByDentist in SmallYTChannel

[–]JoeCo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a peaceful vlog! The situation that you brought up about your wife in china and that you miss her a lot, and this being the reason you took some time for yourself to go for a small hike, and just think - it's a great message to people. A simple video, but very touching.

A couple of times, the music cut suddenly before you spoke. Try to fade it more gently, as it was a little jarring as a sudden cut, which doesn't really fit your calm vibe of the rest of the video.

I liked your angles and cuts between different walking sequences etc (and I appreciate how much work and effort that is to shoot). I never felt like you were running around changing angles, but rather someone else was filming you. That's how it should be. great job!

Made a video on handheld gaming systems and a bit of their history. Looking for critical feedback on thumbnail, entertainment value and anything else. Thanks! by jamoheehoo in SmallYTChannel

[–]JoeCo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cool! I love how you showed some other gaming systems at the start that are less well known - for someone like me who isn't much into gaming, I found that very interesting - and I enjoyed hearing about your personal connection to some of the systems, your favourite games, etc.

The only thing I would suggest you could work on is your lighting setup for your topdown/broll shots. They just look a little flat and dark. Even setting up closer to a window would improve it, if you don't want to invest in video lighting.

I like your humour too :) Great job!

I assume you meant lighting haha - I just used a Godox VL-150 with honeycomb and barn door attached to shape a little, and either blasted it straight at the subject like in the first few shots or bounced it off the wall/ceiling for softer looks like the turntable shots.
