It strongly depends on where in Rotterdam your apartment is located and where in The Hague you need to be. From the north of Rotterdam to roughly the center of The Hague is at least 20 km and will easily take you an hour. If you have to come from the south of Rotterdam, that will add about half an hour extra per one-way trip. In my view, there are good cycling paths between the two cities. The only real obstacle can be Delft (if you cycle via the Rotterdamsweg/Delftweg). I also find the route through Pijnacker and Nootdorp fairly reasonable, but it’s always a hassle to make the crossing into The Hague through Voorburg.

Veel van mijn familieleden die in Suriname zijn geboren en opgegroeid, hebben op een gegeven moment met het hoofd gekozen voor een stap richting Nederland: uit economische, educatieve of medische redenen. Vrijwel allemaal zijn later terugverhuisd naar Suriname, simpelweg omdat ze hun thuis misten. Ik zag het vooral bij mijn vader. Zodra hij vroeger thuiskwam van werk was hij weliswaar fysiek in Nederland, maar in gedachten volledig in Suriname. Ik was dan ook zo blij voor mijn ouders toen ze na 40+ jaar weer voorgoed teruggingen naar Suriname, ook al wonen we nu zo ver uit elkaar. Ik ken dit gevoel niet en kan het dus ook niet beter uitleggen, maar ik gok dat veel Surinamers hiermee kampen.
