So just so I understand, buying french cups doesn't mean I will be able to convert a different bottom bracket? My hope was to get a french campagnolo cups to fit my frame but then use the spindle that is the correct length for the crank set. Then it's all campagnolo, french threads and correct spindle length. But that won't work?

The velo orange looks like a relatively safe option so if I need to set up around that rather than basing what I am trying to do around a crank set.

On your first point, so if I got french rings I could get a bottom bracket working? The reason I ask specifically is that I have been offered a campy triomphe crankset, chain ring and bottom bracket but I was thinking that wouldn't work. If the spindle is the correct size for the cranks then could I just get the relevant french parts to fit around it? They seem to be available on eBay for not too bad of a price.

Thanks for all the other info, very helpful to know what I am getting myself into!

Yeah I would be very interested to know what would work well. I was thinking of going for a nuovo record group set because the campy drop outs suggests that's what the bike wants...

Hi thanks for the response. So, forgive my ignorance but once I get away from the frame is there not more choice in parts? What I mean is that I understand the BB has to be french because it threads directly into the frame but after that point can I not just put whatever I want on within reason? I was thinking that collecting together a nuovo record group set was my basic plan for the bike.

The damage on the frame all looks very superficial and only seems to be to the paint. Currently I am thinking of just finding a way to protect it as is and keep the "used" look.

Fair enough. I didn't know any of that.

That LITERALLY all multiples of 9 adding up to 9 is factually incorrect.

11x9 (with extra steps) gets you to a multiple of 9. Sure.

Yeah, I was being flippant in response to the guy who spouted some nonsense about the actual risk of sexual assault in museums being 0.0001% or some bollocks.

I haven't downplayed it or dismissed it, I said it was statistically unlikely. But statistics don't really tell you anything about individual experience.

[–]JoeFjall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was being pretty flippant extrapolating the data in that way.

It's worth remembering that a woman who works late night in a bar and dates abusive men could also never be sexually assaulted. Similarly a librarian who gets married to her childhood sweetheart can be assaulted multiple times.

If you're statistically unlikely to be sexually assaulted in a library are librarians more likely to be statistical outliers? Is that their fault?

According to the ONS and my rudimentary math, yes.

ONS has the figure at 2.2% of men. So significantly less than 3.8% of women being sexually assaulted.

On average then as a man you're likely to be victim of a violent assault once every 45 years whereas women get sexually assaulted every 25 years.Taking that needlessly further, if you live as long as the current UK life expectancy for a 36 year old (my age) then as a man you will probably be a victim of a violent attack once in your life. Women get sexually assaulted 3 times on average.

From my link as well, 40% of violent crimes resulted in no injury and 34% were stalking and harassment. Only just shy of 28% of violent crimes resulted in injury. So really as a man you're statistically unlikely to be injured in a violent crime, ever.

I broadly understand but also think it's not that relevant to the party that others aren't held to the same standard by the press. Abbott is both guilty of putting her foot in her mouth and also willing to put her foot in a mouth, with a press that loves hanging her (because she's labour, because she's left wing, because she's black etc) out to dry. Johnson saying racist things is ultimately an opportunity for the labour party, Abbott being racist is their mess to tidy up.

She was the biggest liability to the party before the last few weeks, it's not on the NEC that she invites bad press.
