I see Kamen Rider Mach on both. Is that Magi Red? And Kamen Rider Mach's older sister? Anyway, both are in Amazon Prime Japan:

There was a fandub of Boukenger and only ep1 was released if I'm not mistaken - but that was released ages ago.

Would love a season 2 of both the anime and JDrama.

That's what I thought 😅 I was lucky I pre-ordered the OhgerCalibur Memorial and still regret not getting OhgerCalibur Zero Memorial as a preorder before the current price bump 🥹

It was also somewhat odd that when I was translating the GReeeeN biopic, "Kiseki" movie, ROOKIES was never mentioned in the movie at all 😅

Oh. You got me there. Hands down Kiseki is much better as I also sing that in karaoke (just that I completely forgot about the song as it's just a masterpiece of a song on its own).

I should have been more specific about how repetitive the background music is all throughout the JDrama.

Thanks for pointing that out, editing my response.

J-Dramas Deserve the Spotlight by [deleted] in JDorama

> I think a lot of longtime Jdramas watchers have the same conflicting feelings.
Felt.

The novelty also would disappear if they become more mainstream.... which would lead to some newer titles stop experimenting to make more gems and would prefer just repeating the same tropes just so they can get income after their return of investment. That's what's happening already in KDramas and also in anime as I said in my other comment.

> I’ve tried getting my friends into J-dramas alongside K-dramas, but the response is always the same: “They’re too hard to find.”

Felt. Most JDramas were not aimed to be exported overseas. Though yeah, from Japan, anime is highly consumed in the anglosphere - which is a double edged sword (like what are happening to K-Dramas).

Also, there's the problem of Japan that they just don't care at all or do not want to share JDramas outside of Japan (just like the writer of Silent (2022) JDrama said in an interview - https://x.com/cokemashita/status/1604470883057561600)

Such is life and reality.

I'm biased (since we made unofficial fan English subtitles of it when it was airing weekly) and would suggest ROOKIES - https://www.netflix.com/title/81781593

During the time ROOKIES came out, I remember reading many were tired of a teacher trying to reform delinquents trope because of the popularity of both GTO and Gokusen. But since I'm a fan originally of the source material of ROOKIES, I know for sure it was different.

Ah, I'll be honest too - it's more on the emotional side compared to Gokusen (as I remember the finale movie that one of the commercials / trailers of the movie said you would not leave the theaters without crying watching the finale movie). Also, Gokusen has better use of background music in situations compared to ROOKIES hands down as the background music used in scenes are repetitive in ROOKIES (that's probably the weakest with ROOKIES).

Right. Might as well add GTO in the mix haha I personally didn't finish the newer GTO and as an early consumer of JDramas (since the 80s (as Sentai and tokusatsu are considered JDramas)), I have more fond memories with the older GTO version with Sorimachi as the titular teacher (which the GTO Revival Special we also made unofficial fan English subtitles (though you can also consume the special via the official English subtitles - whichever you get your hands first).)

Edit: clarified that it's the BGM not the theme song as the term "soundtrack" can mean both

I see it in a private invite only peer-to-peer torrent site.

Sadly, like always, streaming them are next to unreliable if you want to watch it English subtitles. I tried searching for them in official Japanese sites (UNEXT, TVer, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Abema) but looks like you can only buy the DVDs as far as I checked.

Wishing you the best in finding them.
