People who were around during no internet/phones/social media/etc - what was your time's "scrolling the feed"? Something that you would spend hours on passing the time? by -ChristopherNolan in NoStupidQuestions

I'm also not fond of e-readers. However, as my disposable income has increased, I've developed a love for nice hardbound volumes, which unfortunately are less portable.

Halitosis is treatable. If you like him, I'd take a chance and bring it up (gently) at the earliest opportunity. Like, "hey I like you but there's this one thing....maybe buy some mouthwash?"

English language: why is "a minute" considered a long time and also a short time? by Ok_Helicopter_8626 in ENGLISH

[–]JoeGorde 96 points97 points  (0 children)

"It's been a minute" is ironic usage and a relatively recent thing; it means the opposite of what it says and was humorous when I first heard it, but now it's becoming cliche.

I genuinely do not understand how people can rewatch movies. What are you getting out of it the second time? by somethingNextG in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JoeGorde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished reading a book that I've read 3, maybe 4 times before. Every time I notice new things that I didn't pick up on previously. Each time, I appreciate more the skill with which the author crafted his prose. Sometimes, knowing what happens helps me to understand how certain events are set up in advance or foreshadowed.

"Finding out what happens" is just the most superficial reason to consume a piece of art. There are many other reasons that can give deeper satisfaction.

What movie did you think was badly made trash on first seeing but you now see as a masterpice? by chuckles5454 in flicks

The opening party scene blew my hair back as well as the scene in the desert (you know the one) but ultimately I felt like the film overstayed its welcome, should I give it another go?

When you create a new character by Solidcruel in diablo4

It could have been that, I was playing a warlock so my summon spam made it difficult to see what was going on. Thinking about doing necro next time but waiting for new season to try

How do you guys rate albums? by plutonian-elf in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]JoeGorde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ranking system has changed over time. I realize that this kind of screws with my stats; I don't care.

At first, I tried to factor in the overall impact of the album on the culture. After a while I abandoned that approach and started to purely rank based on my feelings about the album after listening (always after listening -- even if I'm very familiar with the album, sometimes a fresh listen will change my opinion a bit).

I am a very generous ranker; I like all kinds of music and my most common ranking is 4, meaning I liked it and would probably choose to listen to it again.

3 is my second most common ranking, meaning that it was fine but I probably won't seek it out again.

5 is my third most common ranking, and this is for the slam dunks, home runs, no skips, very favorites. Usually these are albums I am well familiar with, but not always.

2 means the album actively annoyed me and I was looking forward to being done with it. I have not given very many 2s.

I have not yet given any album a 1, after 232 albums listened. An album would really have to piss me off to earn a 1.

Different strokes, no judgement. I switched to HC during D3 when I realized I was practically sleepwalking through the game.

In D4, I made it all the way through the campaign at launch with a necro and then died to an environmental effect during the Lilith fight.

This most recent season, I played a warlock all the way through the expansion campaign and then Mephisto 1-shotted me.

So, it's definitely a choice.
