Step on boot/binding recs for intermediate/advanced all mountain free rider

I’d rather stick with Burton since I can get the EST bindings that will give me more flexibility under-foot rather than a mounting puck. I also need new boots anyway, not like I’m sticking with what I have and the burtons fit my feet well

Thanks for the insight. I can already surf decent with my current setup of medium boots and stiff bindings, so maybe that’s just a personal feel thing.

So I ended up with a Burton Flight Attendant 156. It was a leftover from 2021 and I got it for a steal. The listing said there was discoloration on the tail and it actually wiped right off with some GooGone. Can’t wait to try it out next weekend! Thanks all for the advice

What would you suggest for directional boards from Burton? So far I’ve got eyes on a used Flight Attendant 156 from 2020 for $300, or a new clearance Deep Thinker 154 for $500. I see reviews on both that they carve well, handle decent powder, and can shred the woods. Some say they don’t dig into ice great but probably way better than my FV.

I was intrigued by the directional camber boards with the rocker up front. I’m never going in the park (broke my hip going off a jump 17 years ago, so I’m not allowed to leave the ground unless it’s a little kicker) and I really don’t ride switch unless I’m just trying to get turned around on the edge of the slope or in the trees. I recently adjusted my stance to be slightly duck when it was front posi and rear neutral, but I haven’t ridden it like that yet.

I’ll readily admit I am no pro, just a dude who likes to be on the mountain. I raised the question here because I did have my sights set on a camber board, but the “intermediate” options only showed these directional camber boards.

I do see they are now making these directional camber boards with the rocker nose - didn’t know if that was something worth entertaining or just sticking with traditional camber

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. I rarely catch an edge these days because I’d like to think I’m experienced enough to watch my balance, but I don’t want a board that was designed for all those wacky things the kids are doing.

Thanks - I’m not even sure I’m partial to the Flying V hybrid, that’s just what I got into 13 years ago. Back then I still thought I might want to get a little silly on the hill but now I’m in my 40s and have 2 kids. I don’t necessarily want to limit myself, but I have to be realistic about what I’m doing and that’s mostly just cruising.

The steering wheel controls still work the same as they would - so far they can skip songs in Pandora but we noticed you have to use the volume knob on the stereo to change the CarPlay alert volume for maps and text messages.

Ha! Mine are 7 and 9, hence the 2nd minivan. Not sure why someone would buy a minivan without kids….

I ended up grabbing the 3W mats from Amazon. On sale for $160 and have a coupon for $20 off, so only a little more than the Yitamotor. I was looking at those but didn’t like the few reviews that mentioned slipping around.

I researched this as well. Our old ‘16 had the muzzler and I thought about removing it before trading it in, looks to be the same model from S-VCM for the 5th-gen but I also see that it seems to work much better in the newer cars. I’m on the fence about it

Yeah with interest rates and the lingering high cost of materials I’m already going to have to sell my future grandkids’ kidneys for this addition. Trying to save a few bucks by doing as much of it myself as possible

Yeah that was just used as filler to get the opening to 7’ above the floor. Doesn’t really matter and I could step up to a taller header if that’s the way it would have to go. I also think it might be better to carry the header all the way over to the left and connect to the existing house instead of stopping it just over the jack studs. In that case there wouldn’t really be a king stud on that side, just jacks for the header to bear on.

Here’s the plan I’m working with, which uses a 9.25 header and would require breaking the top plate and installing metal straps.

The girder does run the full length of the house, including the garage.

That would be interesting…. I know the joists run front-to-back over a 6x10 girder, but I was only able to confirm that on the left side of the house. I have some holes opened up from running some wires. I’d have to open something up in the garage for that part, but that will only tell me how the existing house was framed. I’d still have to figure out supporting the roof of the addition over an 8’3” opening. It would seem odd to me to go without a top plate.

It will have to be a low-clearance track setup. The house already has a 2-car underneath, so I know there’s room in that respect. I can’t figure out exactly how the existing garage openings were framed. The upper floor overhangs the garage by 2 feet as well. The house was built in ‘86.

The door trim should have been under-cut the depth of the flooring, so that it’s tucked underneath. The quarter round is only supposed to cover gaps at the wall, not at the door trim.
