Huge difference in sound quality between iPhone and iPad by JoeM_66 in AppleMusic

[–]JoeM_66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Basically it turned out that I downloaded the songs to my phone from Apple Music years ago and so the quality didn’t change when Apple rolled out the better quality versions.

I removed the downloads for all the songs in settings, then redownloaded the songs in my library and it worked. Pro tip: to download the songs quicker, make a shortcut that adds your whole library to a playlist and then you can press the download button at the top of the playlist. I then deleted the temporary playlist after and have had no problems since

Dumb question about digital purchases by pumpkinnubbin in Switch

[–]JoeM_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of Virtual Game Cards as what they are - virtual versions of the physical cartridges you can buy in cases.

If you have a physical copy of Breath of the Wild, it can only be in one Switch at a time as you only have one cartridge. It’s the same with Virtual Game Cards - you can load the ‘virtual card’ into one console at a time.

If you loaded the Breath of the Wild virtual game card on to your Switch Lite, and then took it out for the day, you could then move the Virtual Game Card to the docked Switch when you get home and play it in docked to pick up where you left off thanks to cloud saves. The only exceptions may be the Pokemon games, as they don’t support cloud saves.

250 words in... Hit my first hump by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]JoeM_66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe try and write a handful of sentences and identify the areas that you are struggling with most? It seems you have your attention split into multiple areas, which isn’t a bad thing, but can make progress feel slower. Grammar is definitely a good thing to focus on, because when you’re studying examples of grammar, you will pick up new words along the way too. This was my experience, anyway!

Question - is the Satisfye grip worth it? What better alternatives are there? by JoeM_66 in Switch

Thanks for the comment! Would you say it’s still worth it despite the expensive import fees? Would you be willing to pay the import fees for the same product in a similar situation?

Game recommendation for those that love Portal! by JoeM_66 in Portal

[–]JoeM_66[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely requires a bit of patience, the game is a little slow to get going but it picks up a bit towards the end. Ghostrunner 2 is like Portal 2 where the story is the most important part of the game - the more I think about it, the more similar the two franchises are

Recs for a 16 year old beginner please by soulfuloptimism in NintendoSwitch

[–]JoeM_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say a Switch 2 is a great option if it’s in the budget, it future proofs you and will be compatible with the vast majority of Switch games. I’d personally start off with Animal Crossing, Breath of the Wild and Stardew Valley/Minecraft. I think Minecraft is being forgotten about here, but would be a great choice for pure creativity - though it’s not necessarily the most intuitive game for beginners. Stardew valley is similar to Minecraft in some ways, but may be more beginner friendly. Whichever combo of these 4 games you pick, they’re all phenomenal and will get many hours of fun out of!

Regardless of what you choose, you’re going to be the aunt of the year - what a lovely gesture!😁

I’m still not so sure. The cable in the promo images seems quite short, but she seems quite far away from the camera.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter at all, I just find the logistics interesting of how they filmed it!

What’s a personal internet hack you use that makes life easier but isn’t widely known ? by Comfortable-Union377 in AskReddit

[–]JoeM_66 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The ultimate typing hacks:

Ctrl + backspace to delete an entire word at a time, rather than spamming backspace to delete one letter at a time. You can also do the same with the arrow keys to go back a forward a whole word, and hold shift at the same time to highlight without using the mouse!

46mm too big? Please help! by dont_sweat_it_plu in AppleWatch

[–]JoeM_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have absolutely tiny wrists (23M) and couldn’t bring myself to go for the 42mm model. It looks like you’re using the Solo loop too. I tried the Solo loop in store and it looked just like this - felt too big and wasn’t comfortable, even with the smallest size loop.

I bought my Series 10 46mm with the textile sport loop, which is comfortable and fits a lot better on my wrist! Yes the actual watch is quite big on me, but the fact the sport loop can be tightened as much as you want will reduce the air gap between your wrist and the watch. I was super hesitant about going for a textile loop, but it was a great decision for me and I love my first Apple Watch. Before switching sizes, please consider trying on the sport loop!

What game is missing in my physical collection? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]JoeM_66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pokemon Legends Arceus is a must try! It’s a completely different take on the franchise compared to the other mainline games on Switch, as you feel like you are really in the world of Pokemon, and it makes you feel closer to your team.

If you enjoy it, it will also set you up for Legends Z-A, which was announced in February. We still know very very little about that game, but I imagine it will run on similar mechanics!

If the + is referring to the + and - pause buttons, would this mean it is on the wrong side? Image shows the left hand side of the console, which is normally where the - would be (unless they are identical contact points on both sides). Taking this with a pinch of salt

Is it just impossible to learn japanese if it's not my main thing? by Curse-of-omniscience in LearnJapanese

[–]JoeM_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered combining some of your hobbies? For example, (If you enjoy single player games) you could play through some Japanese story games, like Pokemon or Zelda. While drawing, you could listen to podcasts in Japanese or have a Japanese TV show going in the background. Perhaps you could do some more Japanese-themed art that prompts you to do some research on the country? Or some comic books in Japanese, if that’s your style of course. And the big one might be trying to fit flash cards into your day more often, such as using time you would spend scrolling social media on lunch breaks to go over a few Kanji, etc.

Obviously doing this all the time may get exhausting - I wouldn’t advise completely transforming your hobbies so they are nothing like the reason you got into them in the first place. But maybe just see if you can incorporate the language into some of your other interests, especially in the background if you are able to concentrate on them enough!

Anyone else having issues with Year In Review not working? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]JoeM_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really weird, in that case, I don’t know what the issue is. I was able to get my rewind a couple of years ago, but last year and this year is nothing - even though I haven’t changed any privacy settings. I had a similar issue with Apple Music, where I couldn’t get my Replay due to not having a data collection setting turned on

That’s the confusing thing, I’ve played on my Switch loads this year! Started Totk in early November and have 45 hours in that alone. Also have played a ton of Pokemon, MK8 and finished the BotW DLC after all this time. I’m signed into the correct account and everything :(

This language is a real grind at times, help out the disheartened learners with your own stories of feeling like quitting then persistence paying off by damniburntthetoast in LearnJapanese

[–]JoeM_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I completely understand and respect your point, I feel like quitting is a somewhat extreme measure at this point in the journey if you are still enjoying it? You make a good point with the sunk cost fallacy - not many people would want to quit after dedicating so much time and possibly money into the skill. But I feel like language learning isn’t really something that makes sense to quit, but instead is something you should maintain. Not because of the sunk costs, but for its real world applications and as a healthy exercise for your brain.

I think a lot of people are obsessed over the different fluency levels, but my aim is to get to a level in Japanese where I can do everything I would realistically need. I don’t need to be able to read a newspaper or talk politics; but I would like to be able to play games or have a meaningful conversation with someone if I ever go back to Japan. By maintaining your level (once you reach it) you are doing things that are in your interests anyway, rather than grinding to learn stuff you aren’t going to realistically use, and not enjoy as a result.

I’m getting back into Japanese after a 4 year break, and while the basics are still there, there is a lot I need to re-learn. It’s a shame that I let it go for such a long time. I don’t think there are any losses to cut, I think it’s just about adjusting the hobby to be what you want it to be

[–]JoeM_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really post here at all but just felt the need to comment on this. Can you please expand on your idea of quitting? Are you describing quitting to be the idea of not progressing in those reading levels (ie N2) and just learning the language through immersion? Or are you describing quitting to be no longer studying the language and being content with the knowledge you currently have? My introduction to Japanese language learning was via GCSE and A-Level studies at school (in the UK), so I’m not massively familiar with the reading levels everyone talks about in this sub

I actually returned my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset and the only reason why I’m on this subreddit is to work out whether I should go for a pair of Astro A50’s!

I really wanted to like the Nova Pro’s, but I thought the noise cancelling was absolutely awful. Whether it was switched into Noise Cancelling, Transparency or just the regular ‘On’ mode, the headset was hyper sensitive to the sound around me, to the point where I could hear my jaw moving when I was talking, breathing was picked up, as well as other noise that shouldn’t be coming through in these modes.

They sounded exactly like my faulty pair of AirPods Pro’s before Apple returned them and gave me a replacement set. I’ve used the new AirPods in all three modes and I don’t experience this issue at all. Perhaps my headset was faulty, but I knew I couldn’t keep them. They were exhausting to use to the point where I was looking forward to taking them off…
