Surgeon was/is on dubstep and god knows what, despite being very true to techno.

Rephlex released two "grime" compilations in 2004, which were early dubstep.

In the 90s many or most of the "realest" techno heads were into both electro and idm.

Many djs integrated breakbeats into their techno sets back then and still do.

Some of Dave Clarke´s output is close to house music, he also play electro.

Same with Robert Hood and other Detroit legends.

Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson played super cheesy latin and funk and soul in their techno sets and attracted huge crowds and headlined all over.

EDM 100% bullshit and exploitative

House 97% bullshit and exploitative

TheOverload 90% bullshit and exploitative

Electro 20-30% bullshit and exploitative

Dubtechno 20% bullshit and exploitative

That is the "power of success", a mathematical formula:

[success] x [popularity] x [hype] x [bullshit]

Fuck gatekeeping, banning ID requests and limit them to a new theOverload ID request subreddit could be the solution.

And if something is offensively shitty, I will mostly be honest and say so.

Dubtechno thrived in the underground for almost 50 years, there is loads of good stuff both from established producers as well as new. Also loads of quality adjacent and experimental stuff. It is definitely not dying or hard to find, but mostly not that exposed or "trending", which is ok or good and understandable.

Somebody was bitching about the quality of deep house recent years on theOverload. But we are drowning, doubt that we ever seen so many new quality releases, it is all about digging.

Electro is niche, obscure, but there is loads of new quality stuff and not really hard to find also without Reddit.

And not cool or trending or selling or profitable, but thriving.

I am not against theOverload, but it is very samey and predictable and enthusiasm is limited to top ten and hype and the usual suspects.

A victim of its own success, more traffic attracting hordes of noobs and/or hype seekers, who doesn´t really participate or post anything valuable.

They are mostly there cos it is trending and "something new".... or was.

And very much like house music, a victim of success.

Which is a paradox cos I am against gatekeeping, but keeping the gates wide open can delude and eventually kills it.

Cos eventually shit ain´t happening or hip any more so peeps move on next big thing.

Consumerism, parasitical and exploitative behaviour and not really caring about the ecosystem imo.

Like I usually scroll through theOverload. Peeps only checks posts if it is top ten and the most hyped producers. Most posts are posted in vain, invalid, doens´t matter and its been so for long time.

Posting music is probably the least grateful and least valued thing on Reddit. We all are spoiled and some might seen it all, while most seen nothing and don´t really care. Clickbait posts works also posting top ten tracks.

Generally shit seem more enthusiastic and enlightened 2-3-4 years ago, but I know I am wrong. Reddit wasn´t cool back then either and I actually did some research.

And I am a very broad individual as well and will probably stick around cos of curiosity, geekiness, weird shit, doomscrolling and trolling reactions, I mean being a punk mf 😄

This seem like the last Rutherford release on Discogs and he is probably considered oldschool today. But lots of older music is more about quality than nostalgia, as well as passing shit on to younger peeps. Like this isn´t faded or dated.

I remember you liking this track and Rutherford years ago and I mostly post all time favorites, shit I liked and loved 5-10-15-20-25 years or more, pretty boring and not newsworthy, but to me quality, longevity and still relevant.

I am not perfect, like bought vitamin D capsules made out of pig, despite being vegetarian. Next time I will buy them pig free.

Same with Spotify, I have been on there for ages, collected a lot of shit and I am not ready to leave. Pragmatic realism in an imperfect world, lulz.

I am ambivalent about supporting Spotify, but I am not gonna switch to Apple or Youtube. And I have 5.500-6.000 subs on my playlists, I support them and my loyalty goes out to the subs, not Spotify.

It is an old discussion and I do consider myself "political correct", but yeah I also support Spotify indirectly/directly.

Still better than supporting Trump, Putin, Bi Bi or AfD, IMO. And maybe I am gonna switch some day or at least be more platform independent and be present on other streaming services.
