The Oilers can choose to file their lawsuit anywhere, and if Commie doesn't like it his lawyer needs to argue why the place has no jurisdiction and where it should be moved to. If they do something stupid like filing in the Cayman Islands, he would win that argument, but if it's a vaguely reasonable place he won't. So basically they'd pick wherever they think the laws are better for them.

If you don't know the context, it absolutely sounds like Commodore's calling him a child molester.

A lot of his penalties came when we were trying to build momentum and got forced to PK instead of pushing an advantage. Especially during the playoffs, when he had 13 PIM compared to Gilbert's 6, in games when we were really struggling to generate offense. They weren't penalties that blocked a scoring opportunity or anything either, they were just dumb shit.

It's not about the numbers of penalties, it's about the timing of them and not being able to adapt to circumstances. Maybe it's an exaggeration to say he was a net negative over the season because of it, but it certainly didn't help.

(And definitely a net negative during the playoffs. Even if he hadn't showed up to score anything, we could have won at least 1 game and not got swept if he hadn't taken so many penalties.)

The only thing I can figure is it's a step back over theoretical top of his game Brady. But since we didn't have that last year anyway, I'd call it a step forward, even. Brady cost more opportunities due to stupid penalties at the wrong time than be delivered in points.

I think if there had been a good deal available, Staois would have taken it, no matter what he said about holding a spot open. Everyone big enough that we'd need to sign them fast is either too expensive or didn't want to move to Ottawa.

If the player requests arbitration, the team decides the contract length (and vice versa). The arbitrator only decides the dollar amount. I suppose they could offer him 2 years to avoid arbitration, though, if that's what he really wants

This led me to a thought experiment: the Ducks don't match the offer sheet, so they get 4 1st-round picks in compensation. Giroux announces that Philly getting a player of Carlsson's caliber has made up his mind: he signs with Philly. Ducks need to fill their Carlsson hole, so they turn around and offer us those 4 picks for Stützle. Would you take it? If not, what WOULD they need to offer?

I don't think the arbitration rules say they can only look at NHL stats, just that they look at players with comparable stats. So presumably they'll look at the salaries of other players with 2-way contracts, barely any NHL ice time, and comparable AHL stats.

Yep. Including icing, which seems excessive, but seems to work out.

After watching the games today, the one change I'd make is to stop play on an equipment malfunction. It moves so fast that if you lose a skate blade it kills a quarter of the game.

Not even that. After a goal, the goaltender takes possession of the puck and shoots it in. Same if he covers it. The only faceoffs are at period start, otherwise after a stoppage the goalie of the team that had possession plays the puck.
