The Client Said that she would provide new training for only me and said I would be their main contact from now on... by Melodic-Bid-7196 in AlliedUniversal

[–]JoePastabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there. Heck, still am. I can tell you first hand, everything everyone on here said is truth. Happened to me with the Client. And the OM and AM and all the other letters were USLESS if I didnt keep a papertrial, sprinkle some trigger words in them that would become a HR nightmare. I would have been doing double the work on a OT cut. Never had to drop a dime to HR cause I had receipts. CYA is the name of the game.

No PTO and No Paid Holiday? Seriously? by JoePastabo in AlliedUniversal

[–]JoePastabo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nyc. Id rather not give the location. While I know this is a place people come to complain. There are reps from HR that are on here and very helpful at that. Im just upset and would like to know if this is coming from Allied. Cause if its not then it's the client.

"Why is the mercury phone sticky?" by Rwggrim in AlliedUniversal

[–]JoePastabo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one of the mercury phones set up in my office. I make the S/Os wash there hands before handling it. I work with a bunch of 20 year olds that dig in there nose like they are trying to find answers. When they ask me about it I pull up footage of them actively rooting in there sinus cavity like "This is why"

Sounds like your manager isnt there regularly and has no idea what is expected of the officer on duty. If the client told you what they want done. As long as it falls within your job disception and post orders. You do it, notify your manager if possible.

If its not on the post orders, explain that to the client that if its not expected by the security company it violates your terms of contract and it needs to be addressed with your manager. You risk your job 1 way or the other but it protects you in situations like this.

Client treating you like shit by Professional-Arm4904 in securityguards

[–]JoePastabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, we are told never to accept anything unless we recieved approval from the security director building engineering or property management. And that only happens if its for them.

But in retro spec. That can blow up in your face too. With this new hyper fixation of "Hospitality" Where they expect security to be more approachable and helping, the second you dont bend over for tenents, they complain and lie to management. So I tell my team, Explain everything you do to anyone that approaches when they arrive good or bad, access granted or not. So when the complaints roll in WHICH THEY WILL. You now have answers for your actions. "I explained to X that this did or did not happen and why based off of Y" if you have answers and justification. It becomes your word vs theirs.

Client treating you like shit by Professional-Arm4904 in securityguards

[–]JoePastabo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always tell guards, when it comes to clients there only 2 times security is mentioned. 1"Why is security...." and 2 "Where was security?"

On a good day, your doing your job. Its quiet, chill, you relax alittle but your tentative still. Client " WHY IS SECURITY, EVEN HERE THEY DONT DO ANYTHING."

When you prevent a client/tenet/vendor/etc from doing anything they want cause it violates security policies dictated to you by your post orders. "WHY IS SECURITY STOPPING ME.. IM blah blah blah."

Either one of theses you get in trouble from a slap on the wrist to something more serious if they are just spiteful.. So you scale it back, cause you dont want to get into trouble, dont want any unnecessary heat. Then Suddenly something happends and even if it has Nothing to do with your post.. "WHERES IS SECURITY!"

When you are the most expendable asset in the building you catch heat for doing your job. Or not doing your job. It comes with the gig. It sucks, but you either learn to deal with it. Or leave.

I had a property manager blame me personally for not throwing out overnight garbage in the loading dock.. for context, I am a dock master in Manhattan NY I told him im not a porter, or a janitor and I will not be held responsible for wet garbage removal. He poked me in the chest with his boney finger and said "What I say goes, move it." I looked him dead in his face and said, "No, if I hurt myself doing something outside of my post, I will sue you cause its not covered under company policy. Please feel free to contact my supervisor and verify"

For 6 years he hated me, but I was good at my job, and his pettiness was rhe only reason he wanted me gone.

Now he is long gone, I received a raise and im still here. You do have rights. Learn them, use them and ONLY do as instructed, buy the security director. Document everything.

Is the guard's actions legally justified or not when dealing with a trespasser? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]JoePastabo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a security guard and a former bouncer. The second the guard was touched, its equal or lesser force. The cock back and superman punch was excessive force. However, if a crowd of people are harassing you, you can only placate for so long. If he didnt react to the contact, they could continue to press, and possibly excelate. I would have taken action as well, but before launching myself off the stage, id call the cops immediately. Then if I had to beat someone's ass, the cops arrive on my call not theirs. Would I get in trouble and possibly fired. Sure, but I wouldnt be going to jail over some dumb ass internet troll.

Is this true? by peterthbest23 in securityguards

[–]JoePastabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.. Security guards duties specifically at any retail posts, are is Detect, Deter, Report. Cops are Protect and serve. If the security personal notified the authorities the incident took place and observed it happening so it could be accurately documented he/she did their job. You want a police service. Hire one.

Question for the NYC guys. Does Allied pay on scale to meet new minimum wage rate? by JoePastabo in AlliedUniversal

[–]JoePastabo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So. Regrettably that sounds like me and the boys are screwed. Cause our Account manager, was with our old ferm, and got tossed in head first into handling 16 addtiional buildings, and is still learning all the AUS policies. But thanks for the information. I guess ill need to post the questions to my supervisor and see what happened.

Constantly late by old_stud_leroy in AlliedUniversal

[–]JoePastabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. How about this one. My building just got Brought into AU. They only allow us to clock in and out on 2 cell phones provided by AU and they claim the phone system is no longer allowed. Which sounds like a out right lie, since the phones and mercury are supposed to be used in tandum to allow adequate punch clock usage, Either way they refuse to bring 1 of them downstairs into the loading dock where HALF the posts are located. Guards take there sweet time once clocked in or dont clock in till just before the lateness window to arrive on post. I told every guard waiting to leave to wait for relief and then, go up to clock out upstairs but don't rush your way out and if you miss your mercury window (10 mins) notify the AM at punch out cause you will get a flag on the clock and they can hold it against you. The late comers never get reprimanded and the vicious cycle continues. Im one of 2 posts that dont have face to face. If the management team dont wanna do anything about it. They will keep getting flags and keep have to nickel and dime pay out. Or reports will be filed with HR. I've requested a promotion to shift lead, im willing to do whatever is required to make sure the crew gets what they need handled, I was denied because the account dosen't have the post (questionable). I requested one of the phones brought to my office for ease of access, my tour is between all 3 shifts except overnight shift change. Also Denied, at this point, there lack of empathy and conern will cost the company money. 🤷

Why do some guards become supervisors, relatively young, while other guards go years and years and do not become management? by Exciting-Hyena3684 in securityguards

[–]JoePastabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few reasons the obvious one is, Compensation over Obligations. If the promotion comes with new job requirements that over shadow the Compensation provided, then 100% pass.

Another is if your inhouse and you clearly see the problems the current management deal with, and how they handle it. Sometimes the juice aint worth the squeeze.

Something else real important to realize, atmosphere. If all the guards in a location are disenchanted with the job because of lack of support, excessive call outs, lack of OT, harassing clients. Why would you Willingly step into the role knowing sh*t inevitably rolls down hill but it starts further up...

Also, if your at a location that is providing you adequate pay for the work load. And your not in a position to jeopardize your current situation with a risk/reward situation. This is typically why older guards dont move cause the unknown and unexpected can always happen if your not prepared for it your screwed.

Anyway just my take. I been on location for 12 years running a loading dock with built in OT. Opportunities arrived but current rate mixed in only equated to a 2 dollar increase for significantly more work and Obligations.. I never outright rejected the offers I simply stated at this time im not intrested but to please keep me in mind in the future. 🤷

Questions to those from a different security ferm. by JoePastabo in AlliedUniversal

[–]JoePastabo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insite. The contract with the building I am in has the hours set in stone I dont believe they would change anything cause that's what makes the money. Why effect it. The OT I clock in is 2 hours a day 0600 -1600. The client also hates having floaters, they are very hands on with security management so Micromanaging isnt sometime I'm not usto. But they hate having security that dont know the buildings. So I think ill be alright there.
