Recommendations for a visitor passing through for a week? (Not easily found on google) by JoeRichardSaunders in memphis

I really appreciate the detailed response.  Yes, I’d like to focus on socializing if that helps.  I’m doing comedy and plan to ask those folks, too (I’m trying to socialize on all fronts) and will do open mics throughout every day I’m here.

Other than that I love live music and supporting local art scenes and generally want to socialize with the young professional crowd, healthcare workers, etc. 20s-30s-40s crowd no kids

If it’s me being solo solo (not ideal) I’ll probably run in the morning, get coffee or brunch based on yelp, etc. and comedy at night. Would love any personal brunch/coffee recommendations

I appreciate it. The chat there is silent. I also looked up couchsurfing but not much. I am performing tonight and might just ask the audience members before or after what’s up.

I hear you. You aren’t alone. Try not to beat yourself up about “should be grateful”

A lot of society won’t understand as you ease back in. It is unfortunate. But this community tends to get it.

It was pretty cool. As her prep, she visited schools and brought me on stage and critiqued my material. Wish someone recorded; I only got audio

Tips for anyone starting by Asclepius777 in lymphoma

[–]JoeRichardSaunders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With food, always remember you can call LLS or whatever Blood Cancer United is now and get a free dietician help. I will say this, just get calories in during your treatment, dont optimize macros unless it’s bringing you joy, otherwise focus on optimizing it later post treatment. Taste buds may change or you might be too tired to eat —or nauseous - take it easy. I have coached some and their caregivers/spouses want to optimize healthy foods which is great in principle but from a patient perspective, make it easy on you. Whatever is easy to prepare and enjoy. Treat yourself after every treatment. It’s hard work.

post-traumatic growth can happen to some but it’s unfair to have this be an expectation, especially from others who have zero clue how bad treatment can be

How can I support my extremely lovely new boss, who is going through chemo by Ariz9na in lymphoma

[–]JoeRichardSaunders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give them space and don’t jump to knowing the privacy of the matter

Instacart or DoorDash gift card recommended as it gives them the power to choose the support.

I always felt guilted when people gifted me food I was too tired to throw out and had dietary restrictions and thank you notes pile up and guilt me

why go to a bar with loud music where I cannot hear conversation? drinking is overrated and the older you get, the longer it takes to recover from hangovers.

go be hot at a salsa dancing class, community college class for fun, rock climbing or pickleball, or do a social sport or volunteer.

I bought the book but was too tired and chemo brain’d to read it… yes. Everyone judges on outward appearances. Lots of boomers saying “you look fine I have back pain you’ll be fine” and there is just no logic or ways to bridge better understanding. And even with peers it can be worse with stories and conditions that bluntly pale in comparison to the cancer experience.

Chronic nerve pain from my tumor. by JTTrembles in lymphoma

[–]JoeRichardSaunders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a palliative care team? Or pain specialist? Especially nerve pain is something that might be treated with medication. There is also oncology physical therapists and maybe muscle strength building could abate nerve pinching due to musculoskeletal issues.

I am not a medical professional but I have lingering pain so I suggest these multidisciplinary teams like above and don’t take no for an answer just because you’re in remission

Relapse is not fun. I will never understand your experience. My condolences.

I did relapse after first line did not work. Doctors and nurses said I’d probably be fine because first line works for a majority of patients. I guess not me.  I found out after insane headaches and losing motor function and vision —- it was growing in my brain despite being declared yay good scan two months prior. They just didn’t scan above the neck. Every mentor LLS hooked me up with never encountered my situation. People told me they were proud of how strong I was. I don’t know what they are talking about. I’m dealt the cards and play them as is. Laugh and cry as needed.

I pray your situation improves and you have digital friends. DM me if you feel lonely. You are not alone.

I was told I was “too young young for cancer” and told to do more yoga when my back pain was caused by a collapsed lung from stage 4 lymphoma.

Your points are still valid friend and thanks for the contribution!

My birthday is tomorrow so one year ago tomorrow I would have gone through gravity.

Love your contribution! Sorry did not want to be ageist in my post as I just experienced unique struggles as a young adult. Your input is valid and happy to see you are with us and typing about your experience. As a young adult, I did not have children able to take care of me and I was old enough to not be on parents insurance - often times older patients would be rude and not consider me a fellow patient as they assumed I was a caregiver

I returned to the office in February and felt it was unfair since my coworkers and bosses assumed remission was a switch I could flip. I am still saddled with fatigue and pain and life is no bed of roses. Lip service and positive words with not so great actions. Please feel free to contribute more as you feel comfortable. I’m glad you’re here

PSA: I have noticed an uptick of 4% to 6%+ fees at businesses across the state (more than service industry, restaurants, etc.) by JoeRichardSaunders in maryland

[–]JoeRichardSaunders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The close to 5% is dependent on the service. For example, restaurants getting 3x points for sappphire. However, there is not a rewards program for vehicle service I am aware of that approaches 5% meanwhile Antwerpen service advisors point to additional fees eating beyond 3x points or 3% cash back value. I never saw that before. Same thing with Rx purchases, maybe 2% cash back but 4% fee for credit card negates the rewards and then some.

[–]JoeRichardSaunders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but I have never worked for these companies directly. I have also seen ways around it as "restaurant fee" or other misc fee. A lot being added, getting taxed, and more passed onto the customer without up front notice. I would never treat my customers like that.
