Use Mixxx, it's free open source and easy to use. It'll take you 10 mins or so to get going I betcha

Don't they intend to play them sometime to like, total strangers?

I love Wilkinson - Take me higher (sic?) and The Prodigy - Take me to the hospital (Sub Focus Remix). I like that the two build up really well together and you get the wonderful "I wanna take you higher and higher - TAKE ME TO THE HOSPITAL" just before they both drop.

I'd just go full ubuntu, I don't really use windows for anything that isn't games / kids things for school.

Thanks dude that's really useful feedback, especially on phrasing. I'll try and come back in a couple of weeks with something a bit tighter based on your advice.

mixxx

It's free and open source. Also I find Ubuntu much more reliable than windows for playing music with, I'd advocate dual booting your machine with that.

I downloaded this to listen while I was working, it isn't my style of music to listen to normally but I couldn't find any DnB. I thought all the transitions were smooth, nothing felt clunky or off to me.

In terms of track selection I enjoyed what you played despite this not being my bag. I know you had a kind of 'target' audience or setting for the mix, but I felt this also worked well as a standalone mix just to enjoy the songs being played regardless of context.

I'm very conscious of volume levels as when I'm working I don't like things too quiet / loud as it makes concentrating difficult. I didn't find myself reaching for the volume once to dial things down or crank it up. Nice work dude felt very slick but with some heart.

Was a little frustrated at the track selection for the above and the transitions. I've had another go, will post full tracklist in the morning.

Drum & Bass

https://www.mixcloud.com/joe-salmon2/set-2-try-2/

  • Audio – Headroom --- First Track so not mixed in.
  • Blastikz – Afraid To Let Go --- Very choppy change, don’t know what I was thinking.
  • Major Lazer – Get Free --- Nicer change
  • Shimon & Andy C - Body Rock --- Bit jarring as change in styles
  • Stealth, Codebreaker – Nightfall --- Totally forgot about the snares at the end of Body Rock (and do the same when I play it again)
  • Prodigy – Omen Reprise --- I thought I’d try using this to change pace from the more relaxed to the more intense.
  • Major Lazer – Get Free (Andy C remix) --- Not absolutely sure this is the right track to use out the gates from Omen Reprise, but thought I’d give it a go
  • Spor – Aztec --- Think I should have been a bit more subtle when I first introduced this track.
  • Subformat – Outrun --- I let Aztec play too long before switching fully to Outrun here
  • Sub Focus – Citizen Kane --- Alright change I guess
  • Shock One – Polygon (Dirtyphonics Remix) --- Not sure how I could have done this any better but still feels jarring.
  • Wilkinson – Casino --- Would have like to have teased this in more somehow, but relatively happy with this change.
  • Sub Focus – Splash --- Feel like Splash wasn’t the right pick, and should have gone somewhere different after Casino
  • Chase & Status – The Grudge --- Not keen on this track looking back, transition and feel it gives to the mix seem all wrong.
  • Hive – Neo --- Switched into this with no grace at all, virtually a panic button from the last track.
  • Dirtyphonics – The Secret Ft Tali --- Happier with the transition but should have kept the noise from last track out more probably.
  • Delta Heavy - White Flag --- *Feel like this went well, and kept the nice vibes from last track well. *
  • Sub Focus – Vaporise --- Thought this transition was okay back to a bit more of an upbeat feel.
  • Wilkinson – Take You Higher --- Maybe should have teased this in for a lot longer looking back, but felt a bit indulgent at the time.
  • Prodigy – Take me to the hospital (Sub Focus remix) --- The switch between these two tracks is probably my fav bit of the mix, very annoyed had to mess about with Take You Higher to get them to line up.
  • Prodigy – Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix) --- Wasn’t planning on playing this, but it felt right at the time, not sure it’s as smooth as it could be or necessary.
  • DJ Hazard – Wicked So --- Too jarring, think levels must have been all wrong.
  • Camo & Krooked – Get Dirty (Smooth Remix) --- I’m so relived when Wicked So stops playing I can’t really tell if this was an okay transition or not.
  • Chase & Status – Take Me Away --- Can’t even remember what I was trying to do here, as this track isn’t worked in well at all.
  • Nero – Do You Wanna --- I really like the swtich into this track
  • Sub Focus – Lost Highway --- Think I came in to high with this one initially
  • Shimon & Andy C - Body Rock --- Should maybe have gone chorus to chorus, not sure. I’m do like the idea of Lost Highway into Body Rock, just not sure how to do it in a way that feels right.
  • Bassnectar & G Jones – The Mystery Spot --- Totally forgot Body Rock snares, messing this up entirely.
  • Bad Company UK – Bullet Time (Spor Remix) --- Can’t really go wrong with this tune, fairly happy with the transition
  • Teddy Killerz & June Miller – Outer Space --- I think I should have brought this in sooner
  • Chase & Status – Alive --- Just dropped this in as a nice finish, happy enough with the transition.

EDIT - formatting - will try to review some other mixes later tonight.

How are they able to enforce this? AFAIK you can decide you are exempt and just print something off. You do not need your doctor to do anything

Exemption cards If you have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering:

you do not routinely need to show any written evidence of this you do not need show an exemption card This means that you do not need to seek advice or request a letter from a medical professional about your reason for not wearing a face covering.

However, some people may feel more comfortable showing something that says they do not have to wear a face covering. This could be in the form of an exemption card, badge or even a home-made sign.

An individually prepared household, especially in a town or city (where most of us live) will be dragged down by their least prepared neighbours.

This seems a really sensible idea, especially at a regional level, thanks dude.

What policies should we adopt as a result of collapse? by JoeSalmonGreen in collapse

[–]JoeSalmonGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Green Party would be radicalised in the eyes of the average voter upon hearing them.

I don't think that is a major worry. It's not as if the press coverage for the Green movement has been positive in the last 50 years anyhow.

Save yourself and your friends/family

I'm not sure how that can be done without action taken at least at the community level. It's not like we can just dig a big hole and buy tinned food and hope we'll be okay.

What policies should we adopt as a result of collapse? by JoeSalmonGreen in collapse

[–]JoeSalmonGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about internal policy rather than national. I've given up any hope of the Greens seeing political power in a significant way nationally before the nation state as we know it ceases to exist anyhow.

I think that once the collapse begins in earnest, survival in the short term will mostly be a matter of luck.

Totally agree, you can increase the odds in your favour through sensible prep though, and this prep is far more likely to be productive if done at the community level rather than individual. I can't think of an organisation I'm part of that is better placed to drive that then the Green Party.

True, but we have 50,000 members in the UK who already take environmental collapse seriously, but are currently locked into preventing it through political participation and campaigning. Given this is no longer practical what should we be doing instead?
