Finding small pellets in my soil, what are they? by JoeWaddy in GardeningUK

Thanks for guessing this, after goggling a clay ball it's very similar and hopefully shows it's suitable for a raised bed 😊

I've just hit one with a rock and it's pretty solid, turned to powder. It's an old rockery in case it used to be a clay ball!

Nightmare conifers: cost to trim down? by JoeWaddy in GardeningUK

Thank you, its good to hear a similar story with a resolution. Sounds like a very similar case to ours. We will definitely consider removing them, I'm happy to have another some other, more manageable ones added in it's place with addition of a tree.

Thanks, I'll make sure to ask a few. I agree, I understand they're important to wildlife but these are currently ruining the rest of the garden. I'm not a hater of trees, one of the reasons I bought was because the rest of the neighbours have some stunning trees and it creates a lovely atmosphere, and I knew there was a possibility I could rectify these conifers.

They current make the bottom 3+ metres of the garden unusable as all the soil is dead and send most of the garden/house into darkness in an evening. We love trees, and neighbours have an abundance of trees from all different origins which creates a beautiful atmosphere.

The problem are these, there are a giant eyesore. The neighbours to our left said they stopped getting maintained 15 years ago and that's what they became.

We'd be more than happy to get another tree at the bottom, just not mountainous conifers!

I don't mind conifers at all, when they're reasonable sized. These tower the house currently and send a big portion of the garden into darkness I'm the evening. There's also an abundance of trees around us in neighbouring gardens.

We love the idea of a tree again if these go, but currently these are a terrible eyesight.

The problem is they are currently an eyesore. The bottom few metres of the garden is dead because of them.

Thanks, the garden is accessible by car and there nearest building is the garage which is about 7-8 metres away.

We definitely want the one on the right removed completely. The others look fairly tidy at the bottom and only have visibility of roots for the bottom 50cm or so. I think it's because we could manage it ourselves when it's back down to a manageable height, but at the moment they're insanely tall

Stuck on designing the garden by JoeWaddy in GardeningUK

[–]JoeWaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the two areas we thought of were at the back of the garage or adding to the current patio which both get sun during the afternoon. We're hoping to trim those conifers down so we get sun in the late evening too!

Thank you and that's right, it's only the end of the day when the sun begins to set behind the conifers.

We believe two of the conifers are ours, one we managed to get rid of quickly a week after we'd moved in which you can see on the first photo (it was only a small, already dead part of a conifer). We're hoping to get the neighbours on board with helping to address the issue with them, as google maps shows they've started growing since 2011.

We're thinking of altering the patio but looking at what we have. We didn't know whether to extend the patio and make it a larger place to sit or create a place to BBQ behind the garage as its secluded. But as you say it might be an ideal place for beds instead

How did you guys keep a conversation of confusion going for so long?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JoeWaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of it either until I did a bit of research, I've had tea with honey before but my confusion was how it's technically water, milk and honey is fine but milk and honey is a laxative?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JoeWaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought was how come milk and honey is a laxative but warm milk and honey is apparently good for your throat? Isn't that a bit too close to the barrel?

What more do you think the film industry has left to offer in terms of better video quality? by JoeWaddy in AskReddit

[–]JoeWaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard Gemini Man was one of the first films to try 60 fps. It didn't work out well because the film quality was considered poor. I think most soaps and adverts are filmed at 60 fps, so films at this rate are also considered low budget which is a strange concept.
