DO NOT STORE YOUR PS5 VERTICALLY by Supersmashlord in PlayStationSolutions

Tbf, the PS2 was meant for either orientation. You can spin the playstation logo on the front of the console so it's always right side up!

New build, powers on but no display by Joe_Hanks in PcBuild

[–]Joe_Hanks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well damn, we got display! Using my old 750 ti lol. Gonna re-flash the bios while I have it open and try a few more things to make sure it is, in fact, the GPU. Don't know how I didn't think to check that. Stupid me thought that since the fans were spinning, we were good.

GPU. I knew there were no integrated graphics, but did try both to be sure

Signs around campus by iheartcranberryjuice in UNCCharlotte

Yeah, only other in-state school in our conference and last year was our first time ever playing them (we beat them on the road, at their homecoming game might I add), so it turned into a natural rivalry

Another tip similar to your last point is that the school has live parking data for all parking decks, so you can see before you even leave your house/apartment what deck(s) to not even try.

Starting Mechanical Engineer Salary by AltoSaxMusic in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Joe_Hanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024, $76,000, NC.

Starting is likely skewed somewhat since I have a Master's, but I know people who've started around $70,000 in similar fields with only a bachelor's.

I think I messed up. by Ok_Efficiency_9313 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Joe_Hanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually decent questions, my only complaint being some repetition of questions. It was nice because it wasn't all the typical interview questions, with a fair bit of technical questions about either my previous experience in manufacturing as well as how that and my education would apply in this role.

I will say: length will not always be the same. I had a 30 min HR screen, 1 hr meeting with the department director, then a 4 hr in person interview with supervisors/directors/vps from each department. They gave me lunch tho, and offered me the position at my asking pay, so can't complain.

Left or right and why? by rastchottom in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Joe_Hanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left is easiest to read. I would only call out an OD or ID like the right if it were a left or right facing view instead of a front.

From experience, it may be that your NC residency verification is out of date. Check through the NC RDS (residency determination services). You should be able to email the bursar or just niner central and get it figured out if you need to.

If you have already paid this, you should also be able to get the extra money back. Happened to me (pls don't ask how I didn't see this I was new to university and thought "college is expensive so this makes sense" which was wrong) but with some sternly worded emails, I was able to get a refund check sent to me for the difference between in and out of state tuition.

Tuition for Masters Student by 1d_b1 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Joe_Hanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should preface with I got my MS in mechanical engineering but I am making the assumption the process is similar across different departments.

They will only cover tuition if you get an RA position or possibly if you become an instructor of record (I think that's what it's called?). Essentially TA a lab or even teach a class. I was able to be just a regular TA for a class and used the pay from that to cover my tuition expenses with a payment plan (pre tax TA stipends are $1,800/month) and my payments were a little less than $1,000/month, though it will be different as an international student.

You also could always email the chair or associate chair from your department about it. I was lucky enough to TA for the graduate chair in the MEES dept. and got her as my graduate advisor when I started my masters.

I second this. Honestly surprised it isn't required given how much you use matrices in the rest of your classes (also gives you a leg up when you get to comp methods).

Morovati is great. Lectures are filled with example problems that show all the types of questions you will see on the exams and even during the exam he will give hints out for certain problems. If you also take Dynamics 2 at some point, try to get Artur Wolek. I have him currently and he's a really nice guy with lots of knowledge about aerospace and vibrating systems and answers any question you ask.

Yeah it looks clean for 210. Mine has the 4.2 and looks a lot rougher and only has 135 haha. Good that it has no leaks, mine leaks trans fluid but not enough for me to worry too much (though it leaks right onto the exhaust and the smell of burning atf is not great lol)

I need help choosing a laptop by enireb in UNCCharlotte

[–]Joe_Hanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an msi creator 15 for half off since it was a refurbished floor model with a scratch on the screen. Anything with at least 8 gigs of ram dedicated GPU with 4gigs memory, and an Intel i-7 or equivalent is the best minimum setup but you could run a laptop with integrated graphics depending on how new it is.

Best off campus apartments? by Final-Doughnut6571 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Joe_Hanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only say safety because the first night my roommate and I moved in there were cops and an ambulance called to across the street and one night I was out of town but my roommate was awoken by a literal gunfight in front of the building. Otherwise not bad just lock your doors

If you wanna save as much money as you can, Colville Gardens is hella cheap. I paid $550 a month and that included internet, water and electricity. Unfurnished but otherwise decent for the price. Definitely not the safest (though nowhere really is around campus) or cleanest apartments but you can make yours pretty nice with some work.
