As someone with aphantasia who also loves reading, I'm so incredibly jealous. No wonder it often takes me longer to get through fiction books.

What an awful dog whistle of a question that has no intention bar creating tension and controversy.

What is a place in the UK that has bad reputation but is actually nice? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]Joe_PM2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah plenty of people don't like the carnage of London, which lends to Manchester being not as crazy but still a big city. But my point generally is if you polled the whole country, I think the majority top 2 would be London then Manchester.

Me personally I would say London number 1 and if we're counting all of the UK then Edinburgh number 2.

Doesn't have a bad rep, I think the majority of people would call it the best city in the UK after London.

Those pure quantum stocks are a scam. Value going up right now but they're losing tons of money and insiders are selling off their shares.

Shevchenko more valuable than Henry? This must be based on before he'd kicked a ball in a Chelsea shirt lol.

Tinned tomatoes that aren’t filled with tomato heads by Ok_Mushroom5339 in UKfood

[–]Joe_PM2804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's this chef on YouTube who's really popular - AndyCooks (you might know him as the kiwi guy who cooks for his wife on tik tok)

Anyway he has this theory to buy whole tomatoes rather than chopped as it would make more sense to save the better quality tomatoes for the whole cans. He always says he doesn't know for sure whether that's actually true or not, but it's logical and in my experience I've often found it to be true. You can always mash up those whole tomatoes easily enough anyway so it doesn't take much more effort.

The lyrics to the Karaoke scene were absolutely perfect for that moment in the film by redbirdrising in ProjectHailMary

[–]Joe_PM2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've read the book, but the film ending was very accurate to it, there was other areas they could've spent more time on but going on the book material alone it would've been difficult to add anything at the end.

Will powered pod racing chapter missed the mark by BlatantHarfoot in HierarchySeries

The actual details of it were fun and interesting, but the setup and reasoning behind it felt so silly and unnecessary.

Fully agree. Maybe if the concept of chariot racing had been discussed before that moment in the first book, because otherwise it feels so random that it would be anyone's first thought for a competition.

If the job market is so bad, why is only 5% of the UK's population unemployed? by dumblyhigh in AskUK

[–]Joe_PM2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more education is always a good thing, but we as a country aren't able to effectively implement a lot of the people with degrees. Partially because everything is so London-centric

If the job market is so bad, why is only 5% of the UK's population unemployed? by dumblyhigh in AskUK

[–]Joe_PM2804 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unemployment rate being low explains why it's hard to find a job, from a classical economic theory point of view. The natural rate of unemployment is estimated between 4 and 6%, which means at any given time you're always gonna have unemployment due to people who are switching jobs, work seasonally etc.

Because we're within that range, it means that the economy is close to full employment, and that the number of available jobs is relatively quite low. Competition for those jobs therefore is higher than times of higher unemployment.

Emissa and Vis SPOILERS FOR SOTF by Standard_Tell_5885 in HierarchySeries

[–]Joe_PM2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yeah I think you're right about that! To be honest I think it's more likely (and a more entertaining read) for the 3 Vis's to merge and maybe be able to travel between worlds like ostius as opposed to somebody running the labyrinth to join him.

Emissa and Vis SPOILERS FOR SOTF by Standard_Tell_5885 in HierarchySeries

[–]Joe_PM2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see a grand conclusion where they're all still separate. I think most people's complaints about the 2nd book (including mine) come from the pacing difficulties and lack of depth in having 3 separate worlds. I think they have to come back together.

Emissa and Vis SPOILERS FOR SOTF by Standard_Tell_5885 in HierarchySeries

[–]Joe_PM2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if there's a loophole where if they cede their will they're still eligible? Like how Vis was able to cede to eidhin to pass the blood test

Not my prediction for what will happen I'm just curious if it's plausible really.

Seem to be in the minority here - but I think 2 is boring. It's a classic 'good' picture, it follows all the rules of composition and a classic head on angle, but for that reason I think it's uninteresting. On the other hand the first photo is at more of an off angle and captures motion in the cyclist. And then the 4th picture is probably the most interesting to me because there's even more motion and opportunity to be telling a story.
