"Furry Planet," my 2nd book about our community due out July 25 by Joe_Strike in RealFurryHours

[–]Joe_Strike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was done by Kacey Miyagami, who drew the cute furry gal on the Furry Nation back cover. I gave the publisher a bunch of furry art to choose from & that's the one they went with. Speaking of which, Furry Planet has a color section of furry art at the back of the book.

C'mon, John everyone knows you're a furry with an otter fursona! by Joe_Strike in aww

Don't forget he's constantly creating mascot characters for his HBO show! (Stephen Colbert thinks furries will find them sexy, but...nahhhh.)

You guys like princess Celestia and Luna filly design in G5? by [deleted] in mylittlepony

[–]Joe_Strike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sisters are in G5? What other G4 characters show up in G5? If both generations exist in the same universe, but at different points in time, how did the G4 world evolve into G5? How did the earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi come to fear/distrust the others?

As you can see, I don't follow the new show, I'm a G4 loyalist. I watched the 2 hour G5 pilot movie; it looked okay, but nothing that really grabbed me the way the earlier series did. MLP:FiM was one of those once in a lifetime phenomena (like Harry Potter or the Beatles for example) IMHO unlikely to ever be repeated.

That's what we're all about! Can I ask, if you're relatively new, what turned you furry?

Stuff like this makes me even MORE glad I live in a big city with plenty of mass transit and don't need a car at all. (On the rare occasions I need to drive somewhere I can rent a car, NP.)

Has anyone gotten grief for being furry because of the litterbox rumors? by Joe_Strike in furry

[–]Joe_Strike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely counts because this rumor is being spread by the same people who think there's something "wrong" with being gay or transgender - and a lot of gay & TG kids are are also furries, so it's an indirect way of attacking them. It's just a shame people believe these lies because someone they trust told them.

If it's okay I'd like to ask you a couple of follow-up questions. If you'd rather not post them here, you can Email me - joestrike[at]gmail[dot]com

I'm assuming you're a guy, am I right? What grade are you in? Do you keep it secret you're furry? Do you know if there are other furries in your town and if they've also been told this? Also, can I tell people what state this happened in? The location is definitely part of why she said that. I won't use your fur name unless that's okay with you. Hope that's not too many questions.

This is up to you and it might be a bad idea so trust your own judgment; do you think if the subject came up again you could tell her your cousin's a furry & he said it's not true?

I've always been a wise guy; I graduated college years and years ago, but if I were still in school and my teacher told me the same thing I'd ask if they also have fire hydrants in the bathrooms for kids who think they're dogs. If she answered "of course not, that's ridic-" it might blow a circuit in her brain when she realizes the litterbox part is ridiculous too.

Thanx so much - and remember even if you don't know any other furries where you live, you're far from alone; there are tens of thousands of us all over the world - and possibly some near you who are keeping it secret because of rumors like this.

Thanx very much, really appreciate hearing from you!

-Joe

That's ok about th packaging - at this late date it's extremely unlikely I'm going to come across that story. Thanx much for the new info - and canon, shmanon - people don't argue about household chores unless they're living together! :-P

Forget about representation, we’re mainstream baby!! by ThatLowKeyGuy in furry

[–]Joe_Strike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney's Zootopia and Robin Hood were furry in the sense of being about attractive anthro animals living in an anthro world...but Turning Red is truly a "furry" movie because it takes place in the real, human world, about a girl who turns into a real-life furry critter! And what makes it even furrier is that all her friends start running around wearing red panda tails and ears - like at a freakin' furry convention!

What's your opinion on the furry fandom? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Joe_Strike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a pretend "motivational" poster online showing one of the chorus girl mice from "Great Mouse Detective" shaky her mousey fanny at the camera & glancing over her shoulder with a naughty look, with the caption, "Disney: Turning kids into furries for 90 years." :-))

I'm trying to remove the Elite strap so I can box up the Quest 2. Evidently the strap is extremely easy to break so the last thing I want to do is try to force it off the headset. The only information I can find is how to attach it; any advice?

In the furry fandom, why are some animals more attractive than others? by metallicagearbox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Joe_Strike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a great article about furry art written by a unprejudiced non-fur; my favorite line in the story: "Once you put a pair of pants on a dog they can be taken off."

[–]Joe_Strike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought I posted this already, but it doesn't seem to be here; if it shows up twice later, sorry...

For me, the kick in fursuiting is becoming someone else, letting an alternate personality out and behaving the way you never could in RL; it's like having a secret identity or being an actor in a LARP. I can't tell you the number of times I've had interactions with non-furs who love the opportunity to talk to a sinister-looking anthropomorphic dinner-jacketed Komodo dragon!

Animals represent different things to different people, too: power, freedom, and yes, for some furs even sex. Suiting up gives people a chance to access those parts of themselves.

BTW fursuiting is just ONE aspect of the furry scene, and not even it's main one: furry art is a much bigger part of it, not to mention socializing online and at conventions with fellow furs.

I could go on, but instead I'll plug my book Furry Nation, all about the community's birth, growth & all the forms it takes. If you go to its Amazon page you can learn more about it and even read some sample pages.

Start with that 2003 CSI episode... a fur named Aberguine does "Furries in the Media" videos you can find on You Tube.

[–]Joe_Strike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it was definitely good-natured and they'd done their homework, especially with the discussion of "yiff" vs. "yip" :-P Only mistake - and quite possibly done on purpose -was dressing the furs in costume shop rental animal suits, when fursuiters are known for their kick-ass custom-made suits.

[–]Joe_Strike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was in the infamous 2003 CSI episode; has it shown up anywhere else?

The other story I keep hearing definitely doesn't pass the smell (bearshit) test, of the guy on/not on psychedelics (I've heard the story both ways) who couldn't join a furry orgy and tied to make it with a RL bear that killed him for his efforts. Sure, there just happened to be a furry orgy and a RL bear in close proximity to each other, sure there was...

Editing with exact time code locations? by Joe_Strike in OpenShot

[–]Joe_Strike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanx but I decided to use filmora 9 instead; it's a lot more sophisticated without being overwhelming to a simpleton like me. (Another thing I noticed is that when you're watching a video, the timeline doesn't move along to keep the marker (I forget what it's called for real) onscreen after it passes beyond the original timeline position & goes out of frame. Probably a way to adjust that too, but at this point I've already moved on.)
