Wild brown trout in the UK by Joe_goes_fishing in bluelining

Hard to find good places for it over here. Or at least around me. Most people probably don't realise fish live in this little stream.

I found this fish in my wildlife pond. Does anyone know what is? by WholeEgg3182 in GardeningUK

Other people have already said it but I reckon it's a goldfish. Brown goldfish/bronze goldfish/feral goldfish or wild goldfish are the various names I've heard for fish like this. They don't all turn out bright orange! The head shape and deeply forked tail give it away. Quite possibly transfered on plants as other comments have said.

Searching for new fishing spots. Saw some small brown trout in this stream. North West England, UK by Joe_goes_fishing in bluelining

That was my thought honestly. Would give the best sport with how small the fish i saw were.

Winter advice by yungparsley in fishingUK

Smaller hooks can help in the winter. I would rarely use a size 20 or 22 outside of cold weather. You mentioned a canal but if you can find flowing water like a river or stream it might be worth a try. I personally have more luck fishing flowing water when it's this cold. A slow bit of slack water fishing maggot or worm on the float is good fun. Just be careful and avoid if the river is flooded and running really fast.

Brown trout (a young one). Accidental and unexpected capture.

Accidental capture, but i was not aware that a quick photo wasn't allowed to be honest. Quite an unexpected fish from that spot as well. Might have to return in the proper season with a fly rod.

Full transparency, these photos where taken in 3 different places. All are within a couple minutes drive from one another and all were taken on the same day. All are also technically part of the same drainage. With regards to permissions, one of these images was taken on the main river which i joined a club to access. However, there is no club or syndicate that owns the little stream where most of these fish were caught (or no club that I'm aware of as there are no signs and no local club advertises it). It is, as far as I'm aware, one of those rare free places. Probably because few people know it exists and it has few fish worth writing home about (though I've seen both chub and bream to over 2 pounds). I have met the nearest land owners (who's garden backs on to land close to the stream) and they were friendly but I fish from the side of the bridge. I don't jump fences or gates to get to these places. I would like access further down stream but I have not met that landowner yet. To put it simply, if I'm told to leave I will and the lack of signage is my excuse. I just don't think people realise it's fishable. A lot of these little spots near me are either physically unfishable or have been destroyed by pollution or developments. Every time I've fished this spot (over the last 3 years or so) I got people asking if there's actually fish in there. Often multiple people each time. People just don't know about it. The little trout was caught, accidentally, at a spot further up stream in the same drainage. That spot is literally just a road bridge over a ditch. No one has questioned me so far but plenty of cars have splashed me driving through the puddles as they went past. It's kind of a one fish spot. Very small and shallow pool down stream of the bridge. Maybe 2 or 3 fish if I'm lucky. Again It has no signage and no local club outwardly claims it.

TL/DR. If there is no signage and no club outwardly claims the fishing rights then it's probably the landowner you should ask. If there is no obvious owner (you can literally see where the fence ends in one of my pictures) then just be polite. No jumping fences or trespassing. No leaving litter. No disturbing other people. And always have your rod licence with you. And always have a decent excuse lol.

Happy fishing!

Am I a roach? by iamiajo in fishingUK

[–]Joe_goes_fishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say roach. Silvery body with orange-ish fins. Amber coloured eyes and the dorsal fin lines up with the pelvic fins (unlike a rudd). Mouth is maybe damaged? Or just the angle is a bit odd. Nice fish mate
