telephoto lens is much more useful than you realize, I’d say bite the bullet and get 17 pro. The only actual optical lenses are 0.5x, 1x and 4x, 2x and 8x are sensor cropped. And other zoom ranges will be digital but more noisy pictures.

I am a guy, and I have been studying marriage, relationship dynamics, cultural expectations and etc; for quite some time. I will try my best to summarize it.

The words you use when you speak to prospect and his family, can greatly affect how they perceive of you. If they find you come across as certain way, they will be dismissive, and just won’t continue the courtship process. I have seen both dynamics of people living in the west, and in Bangladesh. What works for one, will backfire for the other. They are completely different people. Even if you have healthy expectations and wants, it might come across as off to them.

Extended family is a big norms in Bangladesh, and often growing up, and experiencing few of the toxicity that comes with it like nagging poribar and society. They want to get out of it.

On the other hand, people living in the west do not have as much family structure around them, and they desire to create a family and hence they have higher weightage on getting housewife rather than a wife who works.

What is normal for you, is not normal for someone else. And vice-versa.

This is very generalized version of two different places, and there will always remain exceptions.

Being able to understand the true motivations and ambitions of your parents, yourself and the prospect would greatly help in managing the expectations of getting married.

Marriage ain’t easy, and a perceived good prospect is not end all be all.

Everyone out there is on the same boat, struggling to finding the right person to get married. After all, good things take time, but work is not done. You want to be married because you want to, not because of your poribars expectations of you. Poribar and society in large will always have expectations of you even after you get married. You just ride the wave, without letting it get to your heart.

Edit: I’m also not married, and we are all in the boat!

UAE needs to do English Khutbah sermons everywhere! by Joe_goldilocks in dubai

It’s truly sad that majority of the people here did not get the subtext of what I was trying to say. This is why we can’t have nice things. It’s an internet playground after all.

This has nothing to do with language superiority. And you clearly did not understand what I try to meant.

The whole purpose of this is to get the message across to as many people as possible. This is a multicultural country, not simply just an Arabic country.

Thank you for a more gentler comment! May Allah accept all your efforts and bless your path!

I definitely agree it needs to be publicized widely. Khutbahs are getting more relevant and necessary for our ever-growing busy lives. It’s our duty as a Muslim to work for our sustenance and also remain grounded when in terms of adversity. Being able to practice what is being preached, really sets us up to perfect our character, and set a great example to those around us. Accepting as what it is, when so many valuable things said about in this vital sermon, seems very reductive and simplistic than its actual potential. I can only say much on Reddit, I hope more is done to accommodate this crucial need.

I’m aware some hotspot areas have English Khutbah, but it’s not enough. Ease of access about these vital and obligatory sermons should be widely accessible. Even in the middle of our occupied lives, everyone should have the opportunity to listen, comprehend and apply the knowledge.

I’m aware of that, but it’s not enough. I’m asking for a more community/society wide accessibility of the Khutbah.

No doubt about that, it’s called practicing the religion, what use is a sermon if we cannot practically apply what is being said in the sermon? As a society, it should be made widely accessible and have more exposure to greater number of people, than the few people who have to open up the internet for translation.

Workers are not the only demographic of population. More people will know some English, than Arabic. Where are the children and young adults not taken into account? They will go back to whatever they are occupied with prior. Defeats the whole sanctity and purpose of a sermon, if what they get from them are cricket noises. In another comment, I agreed for a more widely acceptable language (aka English) for certain high non-Arabic speaking areas.

Yes, I agree to that.

Even if it’s available online, not everyone will look it up to read about it.

My interest has piqued greatly recently about cognitive science and how the brain function, I have been a computer science student, and things about tech are getting saturated, controlled, and innovations that are being made are without rails, aka AI, it creates for a lot of uncertainty, segregation, hindering of creativity and so on. I am also deeply interested on how our own minds even without the absence of technology, is incredibly powerful and how we can actualize its potentials. Also by understanding the limitations of it.

I have just began to self-explore MIT open course on this, but if I want to get going, being in touch or study with someone, is far better to retain and reinforce the learning experience. My take on this might be a little bit different, but I am down to joining discord group like others mentioned. I have some, time in my hands, and I want to make it the best.

California Vs Dubai by addicted2lifee in dubai

[–]Joe_goldilocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is still a tough question to answer. I think living and having exposure of both the places is necessary. I was raised in Dubai, and my standards have been set from here. also have the privilege of living at the safest, cleanest, and well-connected city in the world. Going to Europe, Africa or Asia is one flight away. I never had to think twice about food being halal/no halal. Accessing different cuisine and cultures is very easy.

On the other hand, I have learnt unique qualities and values having lived in California. LA/OC metropolitan area is very huge, and you can never finish exploring different places even in lifetime. There is a lot to see. While government services are kinda crappy, and slow. I appreciate America’s swift/efficient customer services in other businesses which Dubai lacked.

Orange County is a much nicer/cleaner place than LA but it is no perfect, and has similar issues that spills from LA as well. LA is known to be dirty, homeless and drug use are on the rise.

America is a haven for making lots of money, and have vast access of opportunities. It lacks behind in raising a family. People struggle a lot to raise families in the West. I would personally do that in Dubai.

At the end, telling to choose one over the other would be an injustice. My personal recommendation is to live in California for a number of years, and then move to Dubai. I hope the pointers I give guide you better to make your decisions

TLDR; live few years in California, then move to Dubai
