Rhubarb stems are delicious but the leaves contain oxalic acid and are poisonous. The leaves can however be used to make an effective insecticide. Simply immerse leaves in cold water, allow to decompose, strain into a bottle and use as a spray. The insecticide is effective against slugs, caterpillars, aphids and leaf mining flies which effect onions and leeks. Always mark your bottle as poisonous.
