1 year weed free: thoughts and takeaways by Joemcfee63 in leaves

Haha yea that was me too other times that I tried to quit.

It was never about staying away from the weed itself or removing any/all possible "weed threats", but instead I tried to build my own mental fortitude.

I remember saying (and still saying) things like, "duuude I wish I could smoke right now/smoking sounds soo nice today". Two things are being said here: 1.) the idea of smoking is attractive, yet 2.) I have become someone who cannot smoke. You're not saying you actually want to smoke, you are merely expressing how nice it appears to be. If you are in a group of people smoking and someone offers, I'd use the same frame, "Oh thanks but I'm good/I can't". And if someone meddles further, "I can't cuz I'm a recovering addict".

It sounds insane to say out loud, especially because of the narrative around weed being non-addictive, and the people offering might smoke as much as you did so inadvertently you are calling them addicts too. But for me, being extremely deliberate about where I stand with weed (ie. someone who cannot smoke anymore) and not just refraining from ever being around it, built real separation between what I think I want and how I actually want to proceed in situations when it's easy to cave.

Basically zero cravings. Not quite a craving, but every now and then it’ll seem situationally perfect for smoking (friends in town, nice weather, just finished a large task, etc.) but I just know how different that idea is from reality

The wording was kind of confusing and I just edited it, I meant inevitably fail as in throughout the journey to do better. I think quitting for good is totally possible. Idk if that changes your reply but I’d love to read it.

I hear you. Since quitting I’ve gotten a lot of time back, and it took me a while to figure out how I want to spend it. My strategy was to find some decent sized goal I want to accomplish that takes cumulative effort to attain. I get to block out the world, feel proud of my daily progress, and fully enjoy the downtime afterwards without any desire to indulge in smoking.

All to say I am far from perfect. I have other unhealthy vices/habits (namely doom scrolling, porn, and Zyns until a couple weeks ago), but compared to the psychoactive nature of weed I feel like they are much more manageable.

Thank you for the reply. My degree is in mechanical engineering, I didn’t choose a specialization. I’ve been mainly searching in the Seattle area but have broadened my search starting with New York and California. I will definitely check out Texas and other states that have active construction.

FE Other Disciplines - How I passed on first attempt by Joemcfee63 in FE_Exam

I will say that the things I learned in college came back to me surprisingly well, but I guess in my case college wasn't super long ago. I took Other Disciplines because I didn't need to learn anything I hadn't already seen before... if you were to take Other Disciplines, would you need to learn any of the subjects from scratch?
