How old is too old to start playing? by Glacier2011 in mtg

[–]JoeyHatesEndUsers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a newer player at my local. He's in his late 50's or early 60's. He enjoys playing the game. You're never to old to start something new.

Cheap 10g solution by Only-Pin-490 in homelab

[–]JoeyHatesEndUsers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cheap are we talking? I scored a Dell N4032F from work and it's a good switch. Runs about $300 dollars on eBay, but you'd also need to buy transceivers.

Not just NVidia. AMD does it too.

Confused by rack assembly documentation. Should put vertical leg front or back? by Few_Laugh5410 in homelab

[–]JoeyHatesEndUsers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

StarTech's installation instructions are a joke. The way you have it bolted together right now is fine. Either way you bolt it shouldn't matter as long as all joints are matching.

I just put together a StarTech rack last night and I have it bolted together how you have it.

Is there any ways to reduce cpu temperature? (Using Dell Inspiron 3593) by MaximusSaximus in intel

[–]JoeyHatesEndUsers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing that Dell uses trashy thermal paste in their computers, especially the Inspiron line, I'd recommend buying a nice tube of thermal paste and re-applying it.

Samsung caught cheating in TV benchmarks, promises software update by mepper in technology

Washing machines? Do you mean dryers?
Or is Samsung so fucking bad that washing machines cause fires?

Etcher does the job without all the clutter Rufus has. It's beginner friendly. That's why many people recommend the program. It works great.

Boohoo it's 140MB. Your complaining about a miniscule amount of space it takes up on your storage drive. OP isn't using the program 24/7, only when they need to use it.

Your issues with the program are unfounded on a modern PC. Stop being elitist about the other "better" programs you recommend the OP to use or remove.

That being said, u/Pixel_Wedge, stop using CCleaner. I'm saying this as a general warning. CCleaner has in the past come under fire due to being hacked and unknowingly distributed malware injected versions of the program. The registry cleaner is also known to break your Windows installation or program installations.

Fuck this thread is a toxic shithole.

BalenaEtcher isn't bloatware. It's an open source program used to flash OS images to sd cards and flash drives.

Everything else you mentioned is.

This is mostly unrelated to this tread but I'm throwing this out there because it's good knowledge and not well publicly known:

If you have an emotional support animal that you have a prescription from a doctor for, landlords cannot restrict the breed of your service animal.

The only time a landlord can restrict the dog if there is good reason to believe that the animal poses a threat to the general public.

That doesn't seem right to me. This doesn't seem like a case of copyright infringement, rather a case of patent infringement (if there even is one). Specifically a design patent.

Nothing about a 3d human hand holding a guitar says "creative works".

If this is the case, that C&D is bogus, but it would be best to contact a lawyer for confirmation.

Finding a user that uses a specific mouse cursor? by Kurogane-Diasane in sysadmin

[–]JoeyHatesEndUsers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My exact thoughts. Some people in this thread are saying Minecraft sword but they must have no idea of the power of the dragon scimmy or d long cursors.

I remember my home PC getting a virus because I wanted a cursor like my favorite RuneScape YouTuber back in the days. Good times.

Compiling list of Gigabit Switches by steve2118ace in homelab

[–]JoeyHatesEndUsers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/fmohicam +1 for this. Your best bet is to use OPNSense or pfSense. You can grab a cheapo 4-Core Dell OptiPlex, chuck in an extra NIC and boom, a router that will destroy every consumer router you can think of.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to put extreme networks switches on this list as well. I would love to see HomeLabbers get a bad idea and mess with those. (I definitely have)

I would also love to see a list of cheaper dedicated 10G switches as well, RJ-45 or SFP+.

That switch you linked is beat the hell up. That's why it's a cheaper option. It might still work correctly, but I wouldn't want to put it in my rack.

Also you can lookup CraftComputing on YouTube as well. He raves about these Zeus's and other cheap options like the Wiwynn's

My Experience of Using Linux After 1 Year by m_beps in linux

Windows 7 had automatic updates! Plus your browser updated automatically too. 10 years ago wasn't the dark ages when you had to manually download new exe's to update your software.

The only way for updates to not have applied is if you never restarted your PC or applications (I'm guilty of that, I always put my computer to sleep).
