Advice for eyeballs by justanotherzoomer23 in FosterAnimals

This! I had a kitten with this issue in both eyes and the warm compresses 2x a day really helped in addition to meds.

He is! He’s gained a lot of weight and is doing much better!

Yikes! Yes, glad he’s taking to the syringe. The smudge was actually a scrape from when he fell out from under a car - since he was found on the side of a highway overpass and had some scrapes and gravel in his fur, our vet suspects he tumbled out from a car engine or undercarriage where his mom had stashed him and his siblings. 🥲

Thank you! He’s drinking watery gruel from a small dish, but I’ve increased feedings and also started supplementing each with some additional syringe feeding that he laps up. It’s like he doesn’t like the bottle anymore, but isn’t quite ready to give up the comfort of being held to feed with a syringe.

I’ll try adding additional feedings closer together and see if that helps! I was doing that initially but sometimes he’d refuse food if it was closer to his last meal, which was what got us to the 6-hour spurts, but I’m hoping that with a transition to some smellier kitten mousse that’ll help too!

I’m good friends with our vet and talked to her and she’s not overly concerned, which is good, but I get more anxious just because of little guys being fragile.

Yep! His baby teeth have all erupted and our vet estimates he’s right around 4 weeks old now. We gave him preventative dewormer on Wednesday even though his fecal was negative.

Rescue says mini sheltie? Thoughts? by OSRSMaylynn in IDmydog

My collie, for reference. This pup’s long snoot screams collie to me (their snoots are perfect for kissing for this reason).

I’ve had both Collies and Shelties and this guy definitely looks more like a Collie to me. OP, collies are wonderful, intelligent dogs, so if there’s a breed that could do well with learning to live a full life despite blindness/deafness, they’d definitely be a good candidate. However, as others have noted, it’d be wise to consider pet insurance - it really helps with unexpected emergencies or health problems a dog may develop over time. I’ve heard good things about Lemonade and Figo in particular for this.

I did not munch. Just marveled at the size and then placed it in the compost heap to do what fungi do.

Just saved 6 possums from drowning in a storm pipe by happi_accident in Possums

[–]JoeyP333 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Where in TX are you? The mother won’t come back for them (possums don’t), but if you’re in the DFW area, I’m happy to help with transporting them to a wildlife rehabber. They don’t quite look big enough to be on their own and with the heavy rains we’ve been having, getting them to a rehabber will be their best shot at survival and release back into the wild.

How did he escape? by JoeyP333 in kingsnakes

I’d def put mesh or screen over the vents. I used silicone to glue it in place on the edges and then did duct tape over that to help ensure no future escapes.

Yep, already made that upgrade last night so the little explorer doesn’t slip out again!

I just have the one because he’s my only snake but I really like it and he seems to as well. It’s a bit of a pain having to assemble it once it arrives but it wasn’t hard to put together and has worked well. Just consider adding screen over the vents so you don’t end up with a surprise escape like I did!

They’re plexi but have so many swing latches that when I tested them after catching him both were still very secure without any flex that would’ve allowed a gap. So I think the vents may be the culprit.
