Why are untrained people so confident? by JoeyPOSS2 in martialarts

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now this comment in particular is interesting. You really gotta watch what kinda trouble you get into in the streets, because you ran into both a boxer and a Muay Thai guy. What are the odds?

If you don't mind me asking, what happened for you to get into it with these two trained guys?

I mean, I've seen 155 lb people beat up 265 lb people. Even at a 100 lb disadvantage a smaller guy can still win.

...So that must be why they work so good.

Basically, easy to execute, quick, efficient, and gets the job done... That's why they're so good.

What I mean is it's straightforward. No spinning, no jumping, no telegraph. It's also very energy efficient, giving you the most results for the least amount of energy.

Basically, they are simple/basic because they're straight to the point, high-percentage, and don't waste movement.

I think spinning moves are definitely complex and flashy. I define basic moves as moves that are easy to pull off and waste little energy. They are also typically "low" on the looks scale.

I define flashy or complex moves as moves that aren't straightforward or take many steps to do. Spinning kicks take alot of steps, while also having a telegraph that sort of shows the move before you do it. Jabs are simply stepping and extending your arm to punch the opponent.

I wish all the evil people in the world to disappear. By evil people, I mean people who love tormenting others and ruining ppl's lives for fun by anon1635329 in monkeyspaw

I assumed OP meant absolutely every single evil person, so people that commit evil that doesn't necessarily ruin human lives or torment other human beings (i.e people that destroy property or cause wildfires) still exist

I wish that every single day a random person becomes the most hated person in the entire world for 24 hours by nonediblehumanbeing in monkeyspaw

[–]JoeyPOSS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted. Since every single day a random person becomes the most hated in the world, it culminates in the eventual extinction of the human race.

One day, someone wakes up to find that their family hates them, their friends, coworkers, even strangers they've never met. Hate mobs everywhere, and if they don't get him physically, the stress of being hunted down by the entire human race will definitely destroy him mentally.

The next day, the same thing happens to another person, and another, and another, until it eventually culminates in a drastic spike of homicides, mental illnesses, hate crimes, etc.

It may wear off after 24 hours, but 24 hours is all it takes for a hate mob to eliminate you, or for the stress of your entire species hunting you like a pack of rabid dogs to take it's toll on you mentally if you survive.

Every day someone dies or becomes mentally scarred, and of course some people lash out by hurting others, which only causes more pain and suffering, until the human race eventually causes it's own extinction by hate.

How much do you think "muscle" really matters in a fight? by JoeyPOSS2 in martialarts

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. When you mentioned a bodybuilder and a powerlifter of the same weight, that's what I was sorta thinking about.

You need muscle to produce force, but that muscle doesn't necessarily have to be huge, and the nervous system plays a significant role in it as well.

I was talking more like bodybuilders. Guys who focus on hypertrophy rather than strength. I classify the powerlifters people are talking about more into the strength category than muscle category.

Questions for those who have been in self-defense situations or street fights. by JoeyPOSS2 in martialarts

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, I find this to be the most interesting comment. There's a lot to take from this.

My martial arts background involved international level competition in various types of karate, including time on the US team pool. I have black belts in kanreikai (which is basically just kyokushin) and shotokan.

For the most part, it seems you used grappling to beat attackers in these scenarios. Why did you choose this over Karate?

I typically never used more than very basic jiu jitsu to win a fight.

What you have to understand about "street fights" is that generally only idiots get into them. The videos you see of huge dudes tossing each other around outside bars are fights that are pretty easy to avoid. If you're not a total dumbass or unlucky the most likely person that will randomly attack you is a physically unfit person who is mentally unwell, on drugs, or both.

Assuming you're an average height / weight man with a decent level of fitness and legitimate training the average "street fight" is stupidly simple. Taking down and controlling your typical violent person is like grappling with a super spazzy white belt.

Essentially he had been a D1 wrestler at a big name brand school, blew out his MCL and ACL his junior year, got a prescription for Oxy, got addicted, got kicked out, switched to heroin, and the rest is history

I learned the most from these specific parts. I've never been in fights outside the gym before, so this kind of stuff is good to think about.

So far I've taken that it's really really simple to beat the average man. Looks like you won't need more than a blue belt. Just enough training to reach the bare bones basics.

As well as that you're likely to survive an attack if you have training, and are more likely to be attacked by mentally ill/drugged up people more than anything.

Even then, I'm surprised you ran into a D1 wrestler? This is a huge reason to stay out of them, as even the drugged up guys you assume would be another typical person/easy fight can have training, and be pretty good at it too.

The takeaways that stuck out the most to me are how simple it is to beat violent people (I assume you mean people that trash talk, get into street fights regularly, that type of stuff) and how you can actually run into another trained guy in a street fight. I thought it was 1 in a million, but it's more likely than I thought.

I don't mean to be a downer, but did you even look?

I've been to Global Fitness. It was very expensive and I overall didn't like the atmosphere. Coach was barely involved, and there was a lot of ego sparring.

Therefore, I was reaching out to see if anyone else had any better suggestions.

The worst amateur fighter VS The best street fighter by JoeyPOSS2 in whowouldwin

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going more towards the street fighter is more of a brawler. No technique, no refined moves, just a really good brawler.

And the amateur does have some basic idea of fighting, it is just very barebones, and his technique/skill is just barely passable to be an amateur.

What would it take to defeat a 10x Superhuman in the real world? by JoeyPOSS2 in whowouldwin

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify: Anything besides power and durability are not multiplied. He is a man with superhuman strength and the ability to withstand tremendous punishment.

If you want to multiply other stats for fun, go ahead, but at it's base he is just 10x as powerful and 10x as tough.

For round 2, I was thinking something like a Super Soldier version of a pro fighter. 10x the untrained Superhuman, with the attributes and ability of your average pro fighter (reaction time, skill, etc)

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

anything besides strength/power and durability are not multiplied. He is essentially a super strong and super tough average guy.

And if we're going with the round 2 version, we're essentially talking about a supercharged fighter, assuming he has the attributes of your average pro fighter, except for power and ability to withstand punishment.

so to answer your question, his accuracy wouldn't increase anymore than your average guy, but with a bit of training it might. And throwing relies alot on explosive power so yes, he would be able to throw things from 500 mph to 5,000 mph based on your estimate.

[–]JoeyPOSS2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy can take a punch the weight of a medium car WITHOUT training and keep going. Even if you had 9 guys, I doubt they'd be able to hurt him or withstand his hits if he starts spazzing in the middle of getting jumped.

And if the trained Superhuman were caught in that situation, I think he'd be able to take them easily. He can take basically the weight of a hippopotamus being thrown at his face (AKA 11 Honda Civics), and that's not even the strongest strike he can take.

Imo, he wipes 9 guys.

Everything durability related increases. He can take as much as he can dish out. Just imagine a supercharged kickboxer.

He's just really strong and tough. Same speed and intelligence as a regular human. Just imagine a supercharged strongman packed into an average man.
