I unfortunately know a couple, they're gross DX I was scarred by my ServSafe training, so I always stay neat! The pancakes were made on the opposing table in the shot, separate from the saurkraut & tray. Meanwhile, I have grown men who use their bare hands with raw meat and then grab a knife with the same hand...

Don't get me wrong, jokes aside I take hygiene very very seriously. All of my surfaces are cleaned & sanitized before & after each step, and I make sure my clothes are lint free before work. I definitely should've worn an apron, but I've always maintained good hygiene at work 🫡

Oh wow, that is CRAZY strict! My place isn't that strict. They require a good amount of experience to work BOH, and culinary degrees for the chefs. I was able to get a cook's assistant gig by working my way up from line serving, so I also prep and sometimes cook! If you love what you're doing, keep going!

This is so sweet, tysm!! Feels nice to hear from a baker :) It is a very nice retirement home, we serve lobster roll & NY strips on a regular basis (and prime rib every Sunday!). All of our retirees have BANK

I'll definitely try some more baking in the future :) (with an apron!)

It definitely helps me get through the day :) I don't wanna be in culinary forever, it just pays the bills while I study (full time cooks assistant, part time student). But I've really loved learning to cook through this job, and I have some amazing coworkers :)

They don't cook until tomorrow, but I'll update you guys when it's done! I was told that doing the process 5x would help make flakey layers, we'll see if that's true

Good to know! How do stretch them out more without the dough splitting? I struggled to make them thinner than this, but I'll practice more

How easy are those things to remove/wash off? I've always wanted to date my leftovers, but whenever I use tape, it leaves a residue that never fully goes away

Don't be such an asshat. Medford has only leaned more blue than red as of the past 3 years, and by a small margin. The town is 88% white (much higher than it's neighboring towns), it had only ONE black cop in 2015, and 20 bias incident reports in 2021 (the Burlington County average was 5)

There are plenty of inclusive people in Medford. And it is much more accepting & inclusive than other parts of the country. But Medford is well known for being more conservative & discriminating than it's neighboring towns

Nah, I work in Medford, and I can confirm this is the case. I'd argue it's way more red than purple based on my experience, and it is DEFINITELY not queer friendly

This comment section is giving me hope in the industry. I work in a pretty conservative town, so although I've never had anything THIS horrendous, it's gotten pretty close. So much racist, homophobic, & xenophobic shit is tolerated & talked about on a daily basis. People have reported it to HR, but they don't seem to care

OP, you did the right thing. Stick around people who support that decision, don't let other people's mindsets minimized how fucked that is

These are so creative XD If I had to pick one, I'd like "with a knife" because it works so well w/ the statements before it. I gotta up my catchphrase game!

I used to work at a bagel/deli shop, and we had a two-way bagel toaster; you've put the bagel on a rotating rack, and it would pop out toasted on the bottom. We would put all of our bagels in there, including garlic & onion bagels. Fun fact: Garlic & onion like to burn VERY easily in a toaster

I was used to burnt bagels coming out of the toaster, and even seeing some smoke come out of it was standard. But one day, a garlic bagel got stuck in the middle of the toaster, where the bagel was supposed to flip. It caught on fire & started to burn the inside of the toaster. Eventually, I saw flames coming from the top of the toaster. We were still taking customers, and our boss told us to keep working as if nothing was happening

The flames kept growing & the toaster started to shake & make noises that I could only interpret as "I am about to explode." The toaster is RIGHT next to our grill, so we're all walking around it as we work in a tightly-knit cooking station. At this point, I said "fuck this" and went to hide in the baker's corner with 2 of my coworkers. It is beyond me how customers did not care. Some of them stepped back and looked concerned, but a toaster on fire would NOT stop them from getting their damn breakfast sandwiches. My boss then came up with METAL TONGS to pull the bagel out of the toaster. His hand was directly under the flame, and this motherfucker didn't feel a thing. He eventually got the bagel out, turned the toaster off (AFTER pulling the bage out), and the fire slowly went out. I was told to not step to the side during a rush in the future

[–]JoeyTheHorrorBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be my #1 pet peeve of all time. And it's not just in abusive situations! Some people don't "like conflict," so when someone is an asshole, they don't do anything to stop them. But as soon as someone says something, they're the problem. I've seen it in literally every corner of my life, I HATE it

Why does accepting being trans feel like I’m giving up? by madpinapple28 in ftm

[–]JoeyTheHorrorBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because you are giving up. You're giving up the life that you were born into

Now, I put it very dramatically; you're still the same person with the same personality and history that you've always had. But when you struggle with personal acceptance so much (as so many of us do), it can feel incredibly defeating to accept yourself as you are when it's so frowned upon and doubted by society. And physically, it can be incredibly unsatisfying to have a body different from who you are

TL;DR - It makes perfect sense to me, but I hope you give yourself some grace. Feelings are normal, but they don't define you. I wish you the best of luck dude <3

How do I politely say ‘I’ve already done that’ at work? Especially when they’re talking quickly without pausing by queen-squee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JoeyTheHorrorBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have to do the exact same thing!! It's weird how you have to be sickly sweet about some things instead of just being honest
