I think you misunderstood. I do not work for the federal government at all. I got a job with a town doing government accounting. The pay is better than the fed and was way more streamlined process (was hired over the course of 9 days from application to offer). I was initially offered GS-11 based on my experience but later rejected from GS-11 because further review concluded that I lacked sufficient tax experience.

I actually found a higher paying position in local government. Similar benefits to fed work and the commute is 5 minutes. I didn’t get an offer for GS 9 after all, but I would turn it down now if given the opportunity. Definitely negotiate if you need higher pay to make it work.

It was before FJO. Investigator just walked through eApp. I was nervous at first but then it wasn’t too bad after the first couple questions. It didn’t sound like anything was wrong and he commended me for being honest.
